Why does priest MC keep breaking on Razuvious?

It seems to be the biggest issue in Pugs right now and priests always have different reasoning for it.

It starts randomly breaking when adds get low hp. Dont fail the boneshield+taunt swaps and it wont be a problem.

Make sure the priests are removing motw and shadow resistance.

This is the answer.

Never have problems.

Because it’s a terrible boss and randomly breaks at times lol.
I’d recommend telling priests to get the mind control Glyph and a glyph to replace it.
Only costs like 6-10g in total.

Are your priests running the add out of range? MC will break immediately if the add is run out of range.
Alternatively if the priest tries to move too soon, that will also immediately break the MC - gotta wait a second before moving after MCing.

Yes me too i recommend the glyph.

And also to not going to far away out of range with the MC

Remove shadow resist and renew the MC after your taunt runs out.

Resistance buffs on your self do not count towards your mind control targets resistance, it has never been proven to work this way as far as I’m aware

The only resistance that matters is a paladin shadow resistance aura, since it will apply to the mind control target, thus giving it resistance. So tell your paladins to turn off shadow resistance aura if they are using it for some reason

It has been tested and having resistance buffs on the actual mind control target will greatly increase the chance of an early break if you aren’t using the glyph. Just make sure to not rebuff gotw/shadow prot while the fight is going on

The other common reasons for MC breaks are:

  • Range
Mind control has a short range, around 20-30 yards. If you run your mind control target too far, it will break the channel. You can mind soothe the understudies before you engage so you start your first mind control close enough to the understudy to eliminate range being a problem

  • Moving or casting spells
This might seem obvious, but if you move too fast after casting mind control, it will break the cast. You also can’t use any of your regular priest abilities while channeling mind control, you will cancel the channel

  • Pushback
Razuvious does an aoe shout with a 60 yard range that will cause spell pushback. He also throws a dagger that leaves a nasty bleed which also causes pushback on initial hit

  • Channel ending
Mind control only lasts for 60 seconds, so you will have to re-cast MC when you are not currently tanking Razuvious. People often get caught up in the fight and forget about the channel duration

  • Simply not hitcapped
You need 6% because the understudy is level 82. If you aren’t shadow, you should use the glyph of mind control

The breaks happen frequently even as Shadow Priest. Don’t forget that hit cap is 17% on students without Misery debuff (which is very likely to not be present on students in the moment of reapplying MC). So it’s either putting multiple hit pieces and get 17% purely from gear and passive talents or get a MC glyph. I just always get a glyph of MC for each Nax25 along with one Mind Flay glyph. On Gehennas these two glyphs cost no more than 15g combined so I can just consider it part of the raid preparation costs.

  1. They need full hit cap or the MC glyph
  2. Shadow resistance from some buffs applies to the pets and buffs them, causing them to break MC which is a shadow spell. Remove all sources of Shadow Resist.
  3. After a while MC breaks by itself, you have to refresh it during the fight by dropping the MC and recasting.
