After being cautiously optimistic about the unholy set bonuses (and I say cautiously because having an extra ghoul pop up at random intervals in a pvp setting where minions are not simply set on autopilot while you do your rotation but rather need to be constantly micromanaged with pet follow pet attack and move to macros, only adds an extra layer of managing to keep an eye on while seemingly every other class simply gets a passive bonus for wearing the gear), I now realize that the 2 set only procs off wounds popped with scourge strike, something that between spam applying chains, diseases, and using globals for utility or bursting, happens a lot less often in arena than it does in a raid.
Is this a joke? At this point just delete the class and be done with it, turn your game into this large scale homogenized moba you always wanted to sell, and get it over with.
Jesus christ this class is hot ******* garbage.
Sorry for the convoluted formatting but honestly idk what to say anymore.
Fortunately theres is many specs to choose from as is many games to choose from. Thats the product buy it or not. Either you like the spec or not. If you are after performance you should be flexible and try diffrent things. Maybe you need to try simplier spec.
Everything has its pros and cons. Like the hated pet micromanagment you mentioned. You can still get part of your dmg going being kited or cced in contrary to frost or any other traditional melee.
The ghoul doesnt pop in random intervals. It pops in very specific moment which happens nturally when performing rotation.
You’re not wrong about having options when it comes to classes and specs, but I’m typing this from the pov of someone who really enjoys the playstyle and would like to see it revived and doing well. Besides, frost set bonuses are not that big of an upgrade over unholy’s, if a bit more plain and boring, which ultimately leaves the entire class in the dumpster as far as arenas go. Finally the ghouls absolutely do pop at random intervals, governed by the circumstances of the matchup, eg if i’m trying to stop a go and save my team that is easily an extra 5 or 6 globals used for things very much out of my “rotation”, therefore delaying the next wound pop and potential ghoul spawn.
Pressing scourge strike on a training dummy =/= pressing scourge strike in arena.
I’m having a lot of fun with Unholy atm. The 2p is indeed a bit weak but the 4-set is strong and fun! I also expect that we’ll get some kind of buff after the RWF finishes.
suggestions?
summon 2-3 ghouls instead of 1.
or
increase Soul Reaper damage by about 100% (base dmg) and by 50% in the execution phase.
for 2p ofc and it should be fine
good news https://www.wowhead.com/news/upcoming-class-tuning-buffs-on-march-29th-feral-druid-protection-warrior-beast-326496
Unholy
All damage increased by 5%. BUT the 2p bonus should also get the buff
and
Additionally, we’re not planning on nerfing any over-performing specializations with this week’s pass, as we want to gather more data and provide more advance notice.
so nerfs are getting ready?
I’m not much of a lore fanboy but I kinda like the DK’s backstory that you start as a “bad guy”, and they are basically (or theoretically) the polar opposite of paladins.
I dunno why Blizz is turning their back on this class, makes no sense after they essentially built an entire expansion around it back in the days.
So far it just feels like they avoid every step to tune Dk’s just because of how powerful they were in the beginning of Wrath, and they want to avoid having that happen again.
They need to step back and balance DK’s around the Juggernaut fantasy (slow moving, high defensive, high damage) like they stated Dk’s to be. We got the damage, we’re just very lacking in our physical defensives.
every class and every covenant is viable in m +.
Hectic add cleave - of course it’s not a great scenario but it gives you some idea of the situation.
as well I can say that Unholy is workable in m +, just like frost dk,
but only with frost dk makes the +26 keys and Unholy only +23 …
please guess who they want to invite to make the keys and who not - and it is precisely because of the achieved results of the specification.

So why does the developer claim that Unholy is a raid specialty?
Is it because of having a Soul Reaper? which gives you no advantage, literally no advantage, over a specialization without these “tools”, we live in two different worlds.
We are weaker than others, no matter what or how much we have, because our damage from all sources is weaker than other classes/specs.
Our 2p set bonus should exemplarily increase our ST damage in the execution phase and with that in mind, the Soul Reaper should receive a solid execution damage boost of at least 50%.
And I think then Unholy would be in line with the developer’s vision in the context of raid.
Nf feels even clunkier than necro to me. Mythic pug tanks often kite mobs out of the scary black stuff, non pug tanks often have to kite out of it anyway.
