Why does unlocking an allied race have to feel like a punishment?

Hey there,

since MoP I played as a member of the Alliance. Due to my guild and my server dying I recently transferred one of my yet unused lvl 50 alts to the Horde.

I played BfA as Alliance I ofc unlocked the allied races on that side, as it was more or less part of the process of leveling my chars. But now being Horde, without having done anything there, it feels like hitting several brick walls.

First of all there are zero ingame hints or clues where to go and what to do. Just flying to Zuldazar didn’t help. The capital there is completely empty. No NPCs, no available flight points. Even after I found some sort of intro quest, by checking to see low level quests on the minimap icon, it didn’t really help.

So I asked google which pointed me to https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/137385. To my suprise even that official article leads you to the 3rd party website Wowhead. I have no problem with Wowhead itself but that’s just lazy by Blizzard.

But ok, I did what the Wowhead Mag’har guide and after half of my precious sunday doing dull quests I got the Ready for War achievement. Now comes the embassy questline to unlock the Mag’har. Idk about you guys but this was one of the worst written questlines ever. And on top of that, especially at the final scenario, not a single NPC was where the map indicated, having me to ask Wowhead again.

But hey, I made it and I unlocked the Mag’har. Now unlock the Zandalari Trolls I thought, doing there embassy scenario. But no, they require the Tides of Vengeance achievement. You need to finish the War Campaign–both the 8.0 and 8.1 components. WTF?

I understand the concept of putting effort into something to get a reward. But this isn’t fun at all. It feels like a punishment. And Blizzard doesn’t seem to put any effort into it either.

yes the hardes thing on unlocking new races is to constantly alt tabing to wowhead and searching for clues where to continue the quest. that was my case

Personally quite liked the questlines to unlock them, though not done the trolls yet.
I think your issue is that starting from stratch meant you had rather a lot of questing to do. I had levelled a Horde DH just to see the Horde story so I had already done that part. I didn’t unlock the allied races back then as there was a rep grind (I wasn’t going to grind both Alliance and Horde reps) needed then. Thankfully the rep grinds are gone now.
I can see the frustration of not being able to just unlock them immediately.

Seriously, is this a troll post?

I’m asking, because unlocking Horde allied races is MUCH easier than Alliance. Not a single dungeon is required.
You need a level 50 Horde character to go to the embassy, that’s mostly it:

Nightbore - if you’ve complete Insurrection on the Alliance, go to the embassy in Orgrimmar, and that’s it.
HM Tauren - again, if you’ve completed Highmountain storyline on the Alliance, go to the embassy and that’s it.
Zandalari - literally go to Nathanos in the harbor and complete the quests that he gives you, literally takes an hour, and get Tides of War, than go to the embassy.
Vulpera - complete Voldun storyline (Horde exclusive) and go to the embassy.

QQer 1: Bruh this game is dead, no content, no nothing
 game boring, bring classic back.

QQer 2: Omg quest too long, gotta farm rep, gotta do content, ffs just give me what I want!!

???

i had no issue with the horde races i unlocked, but i didn’t bother with maghar and zandalari, i just unlocked nightborne, highmountain taurens, and vulpera.
the quests are hit or miss some are nice others are very boring, that’s true for both factions allied races.

It’s pretty easy to unlock them these days. If it feels so “punishing” don’t do it though? I felt pretty great unlocking them myself
but I like working for things and not getting it handed over for free.

Yea I agree completely.

I spent a whole lot of time to unlock Zandalari and I don’t understand why is this a thing.

Having to level one horde character just to be able to unlock another horde race that I initially wanted my main race to be?

Blizzard out of touch again with their playerbase.

As I described, my experience was completely different. And if it’s like you wrote, that it’s even harder for those switching to the Alliance, then that makes it even worse.

replying directly to the thread title here

because timegating in bfa

they lack content in shadowlands
so didnt remove the timegating in bfa in order to falsely prolong content in shaowlands for those of you who didnt do the allied races yet

it’s all about making you play longer by making everything a pain in the backside.

At least you don’t have to do a MYTHIC DUNGEON (not soloable) to unlock Kul’Tirans Allied Race - horde questline involves mostly solo-scenarios.

Kinda like their whole customer support not involving IRL $ transactions. Everything is a ‘‘have you checked wowhead or the forums?’’ (YES I HAVE - That’s why I need your help)

Tbh I had no issue with this, just read the quest /npc dialogue - If you have played WoW you know what to do/where to go

Be happy they didn’t add a WoW store item called ‘‘Unlock Allied Races express lane - only 39.99$’’

By just pressing on the certain Allied race in character creation screen tells you how to unlock them though.

I’m sorry but I really didn’t need to use WoWhead for this at all when I did it.

Oh are you spreading your doom and gloom again?

Lmao. Are you really saying people playing this game are all being abused?

I have unlocked all Allied races. I liked it.

But 2 monitors and Wowhead was a must have.

Nightborne took longest time for me because i didnt had flying in Legion. With flying its ok( exalted u will get by doing the story)

Kul tirans took a while aswell.

Wait
it was a Mythic? How the blazes did I unlock my Kul’Tiran
I mean I’m not doubting you, I just don’t remember doing it. It is entirely possible that I was drunk at the time
 :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember doing the Dungeon to unlock Dark Irons though
Which was actually alright, a bunch of mates who all wanted to unlock them just teamed up and did it

I’ve unlocked everything on both sides apart from Mechagnomes, which is a shame, I quite want one of those, but I keep odd hours, so I’ll have to wait until I can solo the Dungeon I guess! Does anyone know if you can do the Dungeon on Horde, then use your Alliance main to do the actual recruitment quest for them?

I agree I have not unlocked the Dark Dwarves or the Kul Tirans for this very same reason. All of the horde ones are unlocked.

I would actually purchase this if they did, would save a great deal of time.

I think it changed to all difficulties on the last patch of BFA. Not sure either. It was mythic-only (Siege of Boralus) at a time

Sounds right, I unlocked Kul Tirans last, so probably was changed by the time I did
