Why don't people talk AT ALL anymore?

why they dont talk?

1 everyone is using discord and other programs like that.
2 out dated report system for chats and abusers.
3 ingame chat is only good for boosters and gold sellers now days where they can spamm in chat channels.
this 3 reasons are the only reason

Hah, I just had this exact thing happen to me in March. My 24-month contract was ending, they sent me an e-mail to remind me to renew it, but I informed that I would be changing provider because I was not happy with their service-to-cost ratio and the various random disconnections especially during the evenings. Over the course of 2 weeks I had on a daily basic phonecalls, e-mail offers for better and better prices and they event sent 2 engineers to check the lines. Their final offer was for 70% of the price of the first 24-months.

Right click the word “General” at the upper left side of the chat box. Go to Settings. Go to Channels. Disalbe Trade(Services). That’s what causes 95%+ of the spam. The normal Trade chat is almost empty on my server cluster.

As others have said, people don’t talk because of those reasons:

  • Too fast paced to even have time to type
  • Some communication is taking place on 3rd-party apps
  • 99.9% of the game is faster to complete solo than wait even 10 seconds for another player to arrive.
  • There have been examples of unfair punishments because of tongue-in-cheek language or sarcasm. At the absolute extreme, you can type “Hi” and receive 20 reports for it, and if any human CS responds they will just say “Those 20 people didn’t want you to type, therefore you went against the majority of the group and therefore the suspension was just”.

I’ve never been chat-banned in WoW these almost 20 years that I’ve been playing and I type regularly in most chat windows. I even post sarcastic stuff at the end of dungeon runs like “Thank you everyone for the run. Don’t spend so much time typing ‘Hi’ next time too!”

I just switched provider because I could get double the speed for cheaper. They still won’t take no for an answer. They didn’t confirm my contract had ended and sent me bills.

I ended up being on the phone saying “I’ve already signed up for cheaper, faster Internet” and they still kept offering me worse deals. It’s insanity.

Its quite Simple.

Nobody wants to risk being fake reported and banned by automatic ai Blizzard systems.

People talk more then enough on discords where they dont risk in game bans

What is fast paced? Another person here said something along those lines too but I have no idea what they’re referring to. Care to explain?

In order to use your abilities you have to use your keybinds, which use your keyboard. If you’re typing to talk, you’re not using your spells or abilities.

Obviously, outside of combat is different. But no one is gonna be talking a lot mid dungeon.

Oh, I see. Of course, this makes sense. But I’m talking about out in the open world in thsi thread lol. I never do team up things, I just play alone but I’ve always appreciated the random encounter with another player in the city or out in the wild while questing.

Recently I was doing Chromie Time Northrend and to my biggest surprise I saw a handful of people scattered about, but they always just zip off into the sky lol. Everyone always go so hard, like they are not even playing a game lol. I was at Cavern of Time or whatever it’s called and it surprised me to see another person there so I said something (I don’t remember what, nothing insulting or annoying tho) but you guessed it, they zipped the fhgck out within 3 seconds of seeing them lmao.

Generally in any match-made content, there is no time without action where everyone is standing still so that you can type anything in chat. If you stand still for 10 seconds in dungeons to type anything, you are left behind with almost no chance of catching up without speed boosts. If you stand still for 10 seconds in raids, you die from fire on the floor. Do that multiple times throughout an instance, and dependin on how horrible the rest of the group is, you can get removed from the dungeon for not contributing and also get slapped with a dungeon deserter debuff.

Back in 2010 we didn’t have these popular platforms to chat with strangers, also our phones were still simple mobiles.

Now we have so many sources to talk to strangers (discord servers, IG/Msng on your smart phone, replying in forums on your phone, etc.). We are simply oversaturated with communication, in game chat is really just another one of many. Back in 2010 it was the only one.

I remember back in 2005-2008 I was playing games like Lineage2, Mu-Online and everyone was just chatting non-stop in guild chats, party chats, etc. It never happens now, because we have more platforms and tools to do so. Times have changed.

People do talk. A LOT. Much, much, MUCH more than before. But WHERE they talk has changed.

The setting is Discord. Not /yell. That time has passed.

What you are saying is the equivalent of an old man with out a mobile phone complaining that nobody calls his land line anymore and people don’t “talk to each-other” anymore. Well… people do talk to each-other. Much more than before. They just use WhatsUp on their smart phones.

So TLDR: Dont be that old man. Download Discord and be prepared to WISH for people not to talk to you. So you can have a quiet game session.

I have to actively put in programs to hide my presence. Cause the moment I come online there are 100 whispers. And discord is about to explode with conversations in which there are 40 people talking at once about 5 different subjects.

If I want to have a quiet time, I have to actively hide from people.

I posted while ago on the forum how people will be unable to play after they begin spam chat in these modes like blitz etc after they got frustrated how things are going on the game, cause same buttons to type are used to move your character and use your abilities so technically the people complaining and typing all game are themselves the ones who are contributing the least now

Because you can be reported for pretty much everything.
You have fewer problems if you say nothing. A conversation only carries risks, and if you dare suggest how something could be done better, you’re just making yourself an easy target. It’s not worth it in today’s society.

Ah, yes. Of course. I always forget about those annoying devices.

I’m never really going along with the “zeitgeist”. I just found it so entertaining back in the day to read shetposts back in the day while comfy questing… just missing it a bit - a bit much haha. I’m such a boomer but I don’t care lel.

I find it disruptive constantly having to TAB out. My younger brother is like that however. Always used games to go into the art of dramatics as a guild leader or what have you way back in the day. He now has two screens at his place - one is dedicated solely to DISCORD…

I pesronally can’t really stand DISCORD. It’s cliquey. I really hate cliquey things or things that promote cliquey behavior. Cliques were also a huge problem back in the days of forums. God, I hated those cliques more than anything. Same stuff; you’re not in the clique, you’re be ignored.

Here’s your answer.
WoW is catered to casuals who don’t need to interact anymore.
This is the result.
