First off, I started playing in the Summer of 2010 and did so on and off until somewhere in 2013. I remeber MoP barely being a thing but not much else. Right now I’m playing on Grim Batol.
Anyway, why doesn’t anyone talk anymore? Are the only ones left the same old players that woudl ignore you back in the day? It’s almost like I’m not supposed to know that they are all bots and I’m secretly playing a singleplayer game or something. I’ve only had one guy respond to my posts in yell chat in these two weeks I’ve been back. I mean, where’s the MMO here? It’s a weird vibe.
Luckily for me, I guess, however, I’ve always been a super casual solo player that just wanted to see the world of Warcraft III. So right now with how VERY casual friendly retail has become I’m just leisurely enjoying exploring the old zones where I haven’t been yet through Chromie Time and finding weird really cool old places like Uldum. Yes, despite playing for 3 years on and off back then, I’ve never been to Uldum lmao. But that’s great to me tbh. There’s SO much to explore now and all these systems that don’t make sense to me, I LOVE it. I like being overwhelmed and confused and not knowign what to do first. I’m constantly finding all kinds of new things that go on my to do list and it’s GREAT!
But what happened to everyone. This is an MMO for crying out loud. The sharding doesn’t help at all tho. Like really, the first time it happened to me I didn’t know it was a thing yet and it was so bad I thought my internet had crashed or something because all of the sudden everything just disappeared for 20 seconds, then it would reappear and then disappear again…
So what’s up with you all? Where are the comfy posts that I vaguely remember reading back in the day in yellchat?
Btw, how do I block that annoying trade chat spam?
The game is so fast paced and so stressful you don’t have time to write anything
It generally isn’t necessary anyway as you do not need to coordinate much on any key level except the very highest because the game is tuned around massive, uncontrollable AoE damage.
The in-game chat and voice chat are garbage because they have been degraded over the years on purpose and never had new features to replace them, and it does not facilitate roleplay which, surprisingly, is something people actually do care about quite a lot.
Using the chatbox is one of the only ways to get unfairly banned because Blizzard does check manually for cheating behaviour but does not check manually for bad language.
So people pick their guilds outside the game, talk in their guilds via Discord, and that’s it.
Yes. People here are very friendly. We talk to strangers like we’ve known them all our lives. It’s very comfy. I think the inherit friendliness that was already there plus the Italian mindset of the immigrants that came here 60 years ago just rubbed off in the best way possible.
You write something in the WoW Chat, someone doesn’t like your nose or whatever, right clicks your name and reports you. If enough people do that you get auto muted, or auto banned.
People basically abuse the WoW chat to harrass people. Out of fun, frustration, etc.
Ah, come on, which company, regardless of industries, have proper customer support nowadays? GMs, CS, etc. cost money, “a lot of money”, and shareholders hate to spend even a cent more than barely neccessary.
And humans just love to abuse system to mess with other people.
One of the many reasons I (mostly) solo World of WarCraft since Feb, 13th 2005 and don’t do any kind of group content since after Cataclysm. Besides 2024 Birthday Event Dungeons and expansion release open world events.
To be honest, even RP servers full of “Silent walkers”, “Sitting ponders” type of players, which is often because of shyness.
I always talk to that kind of player, when they passing by, since my RP lately is selling lottery tickets, a-a-and… most of them not really accommodating/approachable, i often receive cold “No” or lack of RP immersion with “Uu-uUh, i don’t trust gambling in real life, so i shouldn’t trust in RP” type of answer.
Overall, based on latest RP interactions, i may assume that most of players either socially awkward or just want to be left alone, so they can chill after long day. This game indeed “retirement home” after all.
But also, i think it is because of all sort of queue, dungeon/raid finder, social aspect is not needed anymore. You can add to that third-party addons/websites, which is shows your Stats/M+ experience, so you don’t need explain Lordholycow in whispers why they should take you in theirs party.
If you try cancel your Internet they make you fight an army of CS people. It’s somehow more cost effective to hire people to beg people to stay than to just let their contract expire.
The issue with us RP players is the same.
Even on the big RP servers RPers are few compared to the rest of that servers population.
RPers sit in their RP hotspots and their own RP groups. RPers look for RPers in RP related forums, discord channels, etc.
It’s been a long time since RPers engaged in random open RP.
Yeah, I know. This greedy mentality has infested the whole world and its slowly eroding everything that life has to offer for the common man. I’m quite aware - I was just saying.
Yeah but they’re mostly outsourced callcenters which cost the company less than actually employing those people themselves. And these callcenters make their money in other ways and pay their employees way to less.
I need to clarify that this hasn’t happened to me as far as I know - at least I’ve never been notified by Blizzard about bad ingame behaviour since I went into Mt. Hyjal in vanilla because I got tired of long response times from Blizzard’s GM and made a ticket from within it
But I imagine, for people it has happened to a few times, they’re just gonna stay quiet. Easier that way.
No reason to especially in pugs. Some muppets will claim the social contract. But if you require a social contract to not treat people like trash you’re not a good person. No matter what you pretend
I usually answer if someone asks a question in general chat or something, but i would never answer someone just posting random stuff in yell. Why would i?
