It’s not perfect, it can certainly be far better. I’m just saying I haven’t seen worse pvp than ff14 (and eso). If nothing else wow pvp is fluid and dynamic. I also love gw2 pvp, for almost the same reasons.
Uhm… Not really, no. If the director himself can be quoted for confirming that he took some inspirations from WoW, then it’s safe to say that we can compare between the two games.
Nani? I get that PvP players keep thinking that any kind of PvP is “Adrenaline erection-throbbing excitement”, but WoW’s PvP ain’t that in the slightest.
It’s fun sure, but I doubt anyone would want to describe it as “Adrenaline pumping”.
In fairness, that should go for any game, really.
I think we can all agree that having events for a period of time on a rotation is good to get people to come back and check a game out, but limited one-time events are… Pretty bad. I think the recent Hitman games actually did something like that and it doesn’t bode well with me.
This is a fair point, which I agree can be pretty weak if you want to take for example a Gunbreaker and want to be a DPS with it (As the attacks really look nice and flashy).
I guess that’s why you can pick up a class on a whim.
Fomo is one of wow’s major issue, I agree.
I said it’s funny to compare pvp because wow is 3 light years ahead in that segment. And I don’t get why we’re discussing it at all, it’s common knowledge that ff14 pvp is garbage, that’s a fact, and that’s totally ok. Not every game is designed to have quality pvp and combat.
At a higher rated lvl, games become more demanding, require more concentration and very fast reactions, where adrenaline logically works. If you get to that lvl then you will understand. And I wasn’t aware of that while I was playing bgs and 1.5 arenas.
What in Odins name is FOMO? I keep seeing it, but I don’t know what it is!
“Fear of missing out.”
It blows.
Thank you.
Yeah, it does.
“WoW’s PvE is garbage, that is a fact”
I too can make claims and call it fact
I was around that level in other games, and I whole-heartedly disagree.
wow is a cancer patient that we are to attached to but its obviously that its slowly slipping away under the inept administration of the Watcher and his yes-men
meanwhile FF 14 has a nice community and a passionate dev team it’s obviously why ff 14 is kicking wow’s rear
But wow pve is not garbage, and that is a fact. Some prefer ff14 pve, some wow, but both games have a good pve.
Wow pvp and pvp of other games are not the same. Wow pvp is ultra fast atm, just one mistake can be fatal, and that’s why most players can’t adapt. I guess you prefer games where you can constantly make mistakes without major consequences.
Btw what games do you play on some lvl? I play most mmo games (shooters, moba too) at a decent lvl so I’d love to check that.
That is true, but it does share some similarity with other games, MOBA games come to mind.
Oh I can guarantee you, when you’re playing a game in where dying can net you be out of combat for a full minute, it ain’t no small consequence.
I jump between Dota2 and League of Legends, a bit of Heroes of the Storm when I want a more relaxed game to play and feel mournful for what a game could’ve been. Lately I’ve been playing that Tetris Effect game on Steam, it has a Ranked mode and… As someone who has never played Tetris, I feel woefully outmatched by the people I’ve played against thus far.
well that one is easy,ff14 is a video game made for people to have fun, while wow is a game once good that now is just a money farm in mantainance mode with content that is not tested and a lot of marketing!
Fear Of Missing Out, or the idea that not logging in on a daily basis means you’re loosing on good stuff you won’t be able to catch up.
What rank? What matters is at what lvl you play those games. You certainly won’t have adrenaline if you’re a gold/plat rank, and you certainly won’t have adrenaline like when you play wow arena on some lvl because those two games you mentioned are different and much slower than wow.
Basically, 99% of vocal wow players/bloggers are grinders, so any asian mmo is as good for them as wow is. They will grind FFXIV to dust and be back in wow in time to do 10.0
I’ll try to make a comparison but I think it won’t be too fair as I have more than 550days play time in WoW while I’m not even max lvl on FFXIV…
Graphics: Rather personal matter. While I am more used in WoW graphics, FFXIV ones were rather easy on the eye and I got used to them instantly. As far as areas design goes, while WoW has some amazing zones like in Northrend, FFXIV has some pretty nice looking zones too although I think WoW has some more epic designs in certain ones. Not being fair though as I haven’t seen all FFXIV zones yet. If you are to compare SL zones though FFXIV is clearly the winner. Character design, WoW is maybe slightly ahead in certain details but I prefer the FFXIV ones I think. Spell effects and mob design for me at least FFXIV wins.
UI (default ones): Not gonna lie the first time I started playing FFXIV I was a bit lost, UI and navigation seem a bit more complex. You get used to them but in the start is not as user friendly.
Combat UI: As a mythic raider I use some mandatory add-ons with WeakAuras being the most important to me and in general WoW UI can be whatever you want through the use of add ons. FFXIV has little to no use of add ons but the good thing is it’s default UI is extremely customisable (think of it like a much improved version of ELvui). It did however took me a LOT of time to set my UI in a way that gives me the info I wanna see in the way and place I want it. I won’t go into details about FFXIV macros as I literally have made none yet since well… I still lvl up😁
Dungeons and Raids: Again I have only witnessed the story mode raids and dungeons as of yet in FFXIV. As far as dungeons go, I think aesthetically WoW has some superior ones (again subjective opinion) but mechanically FFXIV are more enjoyable (again comparing base difficulties). As far as raids go, I think FFXIV is the winner both aesthetically (only Ulduar comes close) and mechanic wise (again comparing same base difficulties). I have yet to do ultimates in FFXIV to compare them with mythic WoW. One other thing is that FFXIV has more options. You have the typical dungeons, some raids called trials that are done by 8 ppl and 24 man raids.
Transmog: FFXIV is the winner. Period.
Community: By far better community in FFXIV. What I absolutely loved is that even if people don’t wanna say much, which is totally fine by me, the vast majority greets you when you start a dungeon for example. Also seasoned players are more inclined to help new people. Even in Duty Finder after 5 wipes on the 1st boss only one person left. All in all a better experience. And before anyone comments that FFXIV is less toxic cause WoW is more competitive, I have encountered the worst toxicity in WoW in normal, mythic or low m+ dungeons and LFR or normal pugs. There is nothing competitive in LFR or a m+7.
Questing: Tie I would say, I love FFXIV almost 100% drop rate but some quest steps are “go-talk-come back” and it’s a bit boring.
Flying: FFXIV has a better solution than WoW. FFXIV wins here for me.
Story: putting aside the fact that WoW story is a joke to say the least in the last 2 expansions, FFXIV is a heavily story driven game so I’m not even sure they are comparable. If I must though I’d say FFXIV story is by far the better one.
Class design: While in WoW the buttons you push feel more like they actually do something important, the rotations in FFXIV are I think better. Also I love that you can be every class in one character! Very important also FFXIV class balance is phenomenal. Meta combos ofc exist but are not mandatory. Back to balancing though. Blizzard must take notes.
PvP: I’m around 1.9k max in WoW and I generally prefer BGs but I haven’t done any PvP in FFXIV so I won’t comment. Many people say that it’s definitely not the strongest part of FFXIV so… I guess WoW wins this one?
Gearing: At the moment WoW gearing is terrible. RNG on top of more RNG while the most important pieces (domination shards) are sprinkled with more RNG and duplicates seem like a curse. As far as I know FFXIV has some bad luck protection so you eventually gear up with your BiS. Also has vendors.
Respect to the players: One company apologies for delaying the game and give free play time cause of queues the other one says “you think you want it but you don’t”… Nothing more to say.
Bots/rmt: I’m not naive to believe this cancer is WoW “privilege” but it’s by far less in FFXIV.
Things to do in general and fun factor: FFXIV definitely wins this one not because it has more things to do (I don’t know if this is even the case) but because it has less if any mandatory things to do that will suck your time and will to play. Lemme explain myself. As a mythic raider in the start of the patch I was raiding 12hours/week and on top of that I should farm my new conduits, korthia reps, torghast, x10 m+ and at least 2k Rio etc. All that while having a full time job, a family and a Ducati waiting for me in the garage. After all that burning I am now at a point I just raid log. And that system with bars to fill and chores to do designed to keep you logged in without having fun is terrible. It has to stop. The content must be something you want and choose to do not something you are forced to do. I completely agree that if you wanna play the highest lvl of endgame you need some preparation but you shouldn’t have to feel like you are at work while playing a game just so you can enjoy few hours/week what you love (in my case mythic raids, either ppl prefer m+, PvP. Whatever really). Also another thing I noticed in light of recent fruit events at Blizzard, while FFXIV is more heavily monitored for certain behaviour it does not swipe certain issues of our society under the rug. Slavery, prostitution, war, genocide, abuse are there. And quite often NPCs in their dialogues use language that would get me a perma ban in these forums. I think FFXIV has a way better approach in the matter cause they manage to protect the community while highlighting the terrible things that happen to people.
Those are some of my personal thoughts in the two games comparison. Now I’m not naive OP as to believe that you really wanted a comparison rather another good-bad game thread but I decided to write my thoughts for people that wanna try out something different and also in the very far off chance someone at blizzard reads it and understand some things.
P.S. One thing I love in WoW is my guild and the only reason I keep playing this game is cause I get to raid with these people.
i just wanna focus on this. i have to say (im levelling my first toon as you) that these quest are reaaaaly boring and sometimes i logoff just to avoid to do the 4th quest in a row to go to speak with a random char on the other side of eorzea…
Wow is in this way better BUT lately the quests are for the majority a chore.
As someone point in a previous post the problem with wow in these days to be a FOMO game. for a casual like me FFXIV is more comfortable.
As for the transmog… mmm disagree. some of the wow transmog are marvelous. But they lack in variety.
i agree theres also two haters of the game in my ignore list
that get upset if someone makes a post/writes about it lol
anyway its decent they give us 7 days due to the queues and might consider more
all i can say is for female warriors of light
sea breeze summer halter+ general purpose metalic purple or blue dye on no 2 b legs and boots beats bloodscale glorious jade and vanguard
still have my wish for cosmetic thigh high boots in wow and fem belf to get long hair which wont clip
I’ve put together some pretty good outfits in FF, you even get some good-looking outfit pieces throughout the questing period in the MSQ.
By the way, your name, it sounds a lot like the word “Flower” in my tongue, did you aim for that?
the name is after a girl from my class i am a guy from bulgaria thats why the name is familiar
i chose this one to match some of the titles like bloodthirsty lady of war conqueror etc
