I am a long time alliance main and I do a lot of random bgs, but recently I have being doing a lot of games on horde side to gear this char and there is such a big difference in the bgs experience between the two factions.
Don’t get me wrong, you definitely still loose some as Horde, and I am not saying all Alliance players are bad and all Horde players are good. But as al things in life if you want the truth you don’t look at individuals, you look at systems. Yes they are very skilled alliance pvpers, but it doesn’t mean much if the whole system is broken.
As Horde I have made the following observations :
-I feel like I win more, that is not to say my winrate is better as I didn’t do any statistic, but if you were to ask me based on feelings I would say it’s better. Even if the winrates are actually similar I think it’s because I never had those never ending defeat streaks. As Alliance I would sometimes go over 10 losses in a row, I haven’t had more than three as Horde.
-They are more “leaders”, I have discovered strats I never new existed for certain bgs. And that’s because you often have people giving direction and telling what you should be doings which I rarely saw on Alliance. I had an Ashran where our top damage was the de facto general, telling us when to push and when to pull back and when to do pve objectives and it was a stomp. We even won a defense on wintergrasp because some players would clearly tell us when to attack and defend.
-Less crushing defeats. Of the game I lost they were only 2 that were really one sided, with the others being relatively close. Which fits with my experience on alliance where all my wins were close. People don’t give up or start flaming in chat as easily.
So why those differences ? I can think of a few things:
-Overall faction imbalance, yes they are good alliance players but pvpers have been affected by the imbalance just like everyone else. There was a movement of the more skilled players toward the Hordes for years. Imbalances in racial haven’t helped but I don’t think they are the main cause.
-Less gear on Alliance, if the majority of the more serious players are on Horde then on average the ilvl of a Horde player is going to be higher. So it’s harder to find an equal fight on Alliance.
-A defeatist culture. When you go 10 losses in a row, you kind of go in with the expectation of loosing, so you give up more easily and even if you don’t some of your teammates certainly will. Even 1 person giving up puts you at a big disadvantage.
