Because after just 1st day of it every Andy in pug starts doing some fancy skips and weird routes. Which ends up very badly 99% of the time. Cmon, you only doing +20 for weekly, just go the most usual route and get +2 guaranteed.
Everyone thinks they are smart until it backfires.
Let children play.
Once theyāve ruined enough keys, theyāll start to understand.
I dont mind that.
I mind that there will be no balance tuning until the event is over. As if we were kept hostage by some e-sport thing.
But to be honest, I have suffered tanks that pretend like the routes the pros take in a +30 is an acceptable route to take with 0 coms, and 0 coordination. Just because they saw a streamer (and his premade) do it.
The two pulls that are the worst are:
-
1st pull of Rise: Taking EVERYTHING from the big guy, to the lady. And pretending that 7 mage casters can be CCd perfectly. 1st Volley, wipe.
-
1st pull of ToT: Pretending like taking EVERYTHING including the big spider up in the corridor is a good ideaā¦
Wiped to those more than I would like to admit. But my policy is: Tank should do his job, which includes knowing what comp he is running with. And, the owner of the key has the final say on that. And if he agrees, then its not my job to question it.
I just limit myself to asking for the route at the beginning. And trying my best to adapt to it.
Whatās wrong with being able to plan your route?
Route planning shouldnāt be reckless.
Or, at least make sure you, as someone who plans it, tell 4 other people in your group what to expect.
Iāve only encountered routing problems when route wasnāt linked. Like +25 EB, it wouldāve been nice if he had linked the route on MDT so I would know that we were going to skip and I didnāt pot on the boss pretty much just before the skip he had in mind. He just assumed people should know he wants a skip at that point or something.
Never had any such problems when people link routes.
Or at least this, yeah. This will minimize the risks, yet sometimes people wanna pull off an MDI route (that requires some skill) in a low-level key, where people sometimes struggle with finding W on their keyboardā¦
For me, I consider a good tank to be a tank that
A) Does a route appropriate for the comp and situation. So if he is in high keys, he can expect his party members to behave a certain way. If he is in low keys, then he should expect something else.
B) Should execute that route dynamically. So if he sees that DDs arenāt kicking, or that that the healer is struggling, he should adapt the route accordingly.
C) Track peoples CDs and adapt pull size accordingly.
D) Give tasks to people. Like āhealer interrupt Revitalizeā⦠or⦠prio target XXX⦠or⦠bait YYY mechanic here⦠things like that. It comes as a given that he should publish his route to everyone to see. So everyone is informed of what and where were going.
Thats the difference between a tank. And an AMAZING tank.
They should keep their weird tactics to their guild runs. Itās always better to play cautiously when in an unorganised group.
Donāt give too much hope for random pugs though. On pre-made or at least discord coms groups that works and its even expected since they didnāt join discord to āplay with the soundboardā.
Many times the scenario with pugs:
Tank: ok DPS one interrupt X on 1st pull and use stuns.
DPS: ok
Mid-pull: DPS doesnāt interrupt or stun a thing, gets targeted by boss cast: āoMGeZ KICK u nOObS!ā
In pugs, you can expect the dps to at least āpretendā that they are trying not to stand in fire. Canāt ask for anything moreā¦
Well, then the tank takes baby pulls⦠instead of complaining.
If DDs cant deal with more than 3 mobs, then he pulls no more than 3 mobs.
Hahaha.
In before:
āomgez pull more newb tank!ā
- Atal Dazar going on Priestess Alunza side because the big boys are doing that.
- BRH taking the whole first room +corridor plus BL⦠never ends well.
- skip with invis and taking the pack + first boss in Galakrondās Fall⦠itās sooo much fun with sanguine or stormingā¦
Bro⦠that is a big NONO in sanguine weeks⦠That is something I would complain about before the dungeonā¦
We try to do the most usual route, but everyone seems to disagree what that route is.
Pixel precise or patrols skips should never be a thing in m+. It just causes more problems for people than the reward for doing them.
Good skips are ironically the one blizzard decided to nuke with the Azure Vault. Where you could chose to either skip the start or the end of the dungeon depending on party preference. But obviously we canāt have that now can we, since the 2nd skip kills you out of thin air now. /sigh
Ha, that reminds me of a time in SL when we were doing some M+ run during MDT season and had this tank who was literally all over the place, just constantly causing wipes. When we asked him to take it easy, he actually said, āBut this is how they do it in MDI, guys.ā
sound like a job
