Why i loved legion a why i want to have it back

Simply because it was entertaining and rewarding when played. First, the major system of the expansion, artifact weapons, were so good. I desired to play every class, every spec, because i wanted to know how this specs artifact weapon will look like, what special ability it has, how additional appereances will look like. And most importantly, because of the artifact power system, everytime you turned the game on and played for some time, your character would actually get better, more stronger, because at the end of the day you could click another trait on your weapon. Today i just have full bags of anima, that i have no clue what can i spend it for.

Then you had legendary gear, that part of community wasnt really happy about, but for me it was additional motivation to do stuff like emissary quests, m+, raids, even freaking normal dungeons, because everytime i had a chance on legendary drop.

Then there was class halls, class campaigns, great leveling zones, lovely lore, fishing artifact, secret puzzles, suramar. But most importantly, at the end of an expansion, you had totally OP character. Which is good, because thats the reason why i do it. To have a character that actually feels powerful. I dont want to grind just to have character that feels mediocre to play.

Legion was the expansion filled with double edged swords. And now that the wounds have healed, I think people are only really remembering the good parts.

Artifact weapons were great.
But they started the trend for borrowed power.
When we moved to BFA most classes lost their artifact weapons, and with it, half a dozen if not more cool things.
Also do you not remember the world boss schedule? Some people literally couldn’t get their skins for months. And I’m not talking 1 or 2, I’m talking upwards of like 7.

Legendary items (and Titanforging) absolutely added meaning to World Quests, dungeons and raids. But the cost was terrible RNG.
To that end, World Quests themselves just aren’t fun now that RNG gear has gone.

In an isolated capsule, Legion was great. But it gave absolutely no thought to the moment we moved into the next expansion. And seeing as we absolutely knew it was coming, it’s a huge mistake from Blizzard.

Class halls were positive though. I have nothing bad to say on those.
other than the Warlock one being ugly

Legion was the expansion that doubled down on timegates.
Legion’s Artifact system was terrible at launch.
Legion’s legendary system was also terrible.
Let’s not forget titanforging shall we.

Over the course of the expansion, it did get better.

Also, let me use this post to also say that they retconned a whole lot of Warcraft 3.
The Dwarves had relics hanging up in Ironforge since vanilla from the sunken city of the Nightborne.

I think you look back at it too fondly.

The legendary artifact was good until it was capped.

Then they added infinite trait + Netherlight crucible.

Is it not enough for you that you can trade 25000 anima for 20 cloths? People these days are so ungrateful…

Let me guess, it was the first expansion you’ve ever played and this is why you want it back.

Legion was the downfall of this game and introduced everything that ruined World of Warcraft. The only players that want Legion back are those who started playing the game with Legion. And I can’t even blame them. Everything that came after was a joke and they don’t know how good this game used to be. They just don’t know any better.

Legion was a pretty good expansion, we were part of some really unique and important quests for making Azeroth a better place…actually for saving it!
Every class was unique in its own way and those zones! God, those zones are amazing!

But do not worry, I am sure Blizzard will introduce something similar at some point

I would love to have Legion back, but only if all the systems would be implemented into 7.0, the way they were in 7.3.

There is no way i would play it if the legendary system would be the same as it was on release. One time of getting my best legendaries as my last 2-3 (after more than 3-4 months), while others got their BiS one from rng lootboxes on week 1 was more than enough.

I’d much rather play Legion than SL that’s for sure but that’s not really saying much.

Would you please go and ask a decent sample of long time players and prove yourself wrong for us? Thanks.

I started playing the game as a kid some time around WotLK, on private servers, around the time the game was supposedly at it’s peak, I first came to retail in mid WoD still a casual, and Legion was the first expansion that actually got me hooked to play the game actively. The issue is that Blizzard learned all the wrong lessons from Legion.

I play since the start and I absolutely loved Legion. But Julius is a notorious Legion hate poster so don’t even bother.

Legion was and will always be amazing!

I joined in late Wrath and absolutely loved Legion. Was it perfect? No. But I enjoyed a lot more about it than I am with Shadowlands. Everyone is entitled to have a favourite expansion regardless of whether it had downfalls. What Julius fails to understand is that there is more to an expansion than it’s systems - sometimes it’s the theme and visuals that make it someone’s favourite. For me, I loved the emphasis on class identity in Legion, hence why it holds a special place in my heart.

Well, this is entirely not true. WoTLK will always stay the best expansion for me, and for most of other WoW players. It was simply perfect, everyone knows that. This fact, however, didn’t stop me from loving Legion.
Legion was a great expansion in a way - way better than WoD and every It-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named expansion coming after. It had it’s charm in it, with amazing characters coming back in to take the stage. So many new things introduced - M+, artifacts which were interesting to discover for each class, WQs, class halls (which was an absolutely wonderful thing to go through - a small community of like-minded people following the same goal, like, for example, a bunch of travellers on a plane… get it?), interesting story, professions like fishing becoming something more than regular boring pastime, cool raid mechanics etc. This expansion was actually addictive, rarely it gave you a feeling you have nothing left to do there. While Shadowlands grants you this feeling 6 days a week. Not to mention, do you remember how frequently Legion was getting new patches? Yeah. It’s your decision to like it or not, but objectively, Legion was a fine expansion to play.

Ill try to put it as simple as i can. If you were doing M+ in legion, you would do it for gear (obviously, same like shadowlands, but you had higher drop chance, which is good for me, but i understand if someone says the opposite. But i think that low drop chance, is just like they would say, we dont have enough content and we need to prolong your progress.), you would do it for AP, so your weapon will be stronger, for essences that you could buy or upgrade lagendaries, or you would do it for new cool artifact appereance.

In shadowlands you do M+ for gear, for anima, which is totally useless currency, and for valor points, which are good, but most of the time you are valor capped and have no item to upgrade.

And the comparison is pretty much the same with all activities.
Today wow is for me like. I have to do 4 dungeons because i want to have 2 windows in weekly vault, i have to do boring mandatory torghast runs. And i have to do korthia rares, dailies and treasures over over over and over again, because someday the game will do ā€œdingā€, now you are tier 6 and you can have a socket in your gear. BOoooring!
I get it that every expansion you get tired of daily grind. But in legion i could relog on alt, and it was fun because every class had its own story, its own artifact with ability and appereances and traits, so you were discovering something. In shadowlands you will be doing the same covenant campaign, same torghast and same korthia stuff like on your main char.

TL;DR gear doesn’t drop so consistently.

The class order hall quests were time-gated or resource gated and only took maybe 2 hours in total to complete.

I mean, if you want flowers and sunshine… there’s other classes for that :joy_cat:

But I agree with the rest of your post. I barely touched Legion, but heard plenty of 2nd hand complaints. People rerolling max level characters because the ā€˜wrong’ legendary dropped was just… wut? If there’s going to be RNG legendaries, they better be balanced to within a gnat’s pube of equality.
