Why I shall never quest again in this game

I am now 75 with my fourth character this year so tomorrow I will have the four at 80/81. I will then level another to 80 so I have five on this new realm and then I’ll shunt them all along ten levels at a time. Taking me around three days to get to 80.

I find dungeons the only way to go now levelling. I have to wait as I get closer to level 80 but its still worth it. The fun of having a good group when it gets fast and furious cannot be matched by the open world game. And seriously you do a couple of dungeons and you are way past the zonal aspect of the kingdoms. Its OK saying players go back to do their old quests, but why ? It just feels so wrong.

Biggest issue with dungeons is the bonkers gear drops. Why weapons have the lowest chance to drop I know not why. Whats the big deal. I feel sorry for other players I am with when I can’t do the heavy hits, just ruins it for everyone else. Like I say now 75 and using a Level 35 stick. No way can I get a staff to drop. Same with chest pieces. Plenty of gloves, rings, shoulders with like -17 crit which I sell immediately but nothing with crit and no staff or chest items. Sadly I do so many dungeons and get nothing but the goody bag. Getting very frustrating.

Levelling is OK with dungeons and very fast. I really have no idea of my level half the time. Just flashes by in the blink of an eye. I must have a dozen dungeons stacked at the moment with quest rewards from the dungeons unclaimed. I just forget.

Dungeons are getting slower and slower to get into. Generally over 15 minutes. Sometimes over half an hour. That is the only sad thing. Also I didn’t get my flying training cus I didn’t need it and when I hit 71 in the dungeon I was awarded flying and Fast and Furious think its called so I didn’t need to buy it.

Players is what makes dungeons fun. Last night we lost the healer in Nexus and we agreed to carry on regardless. Man was it hard but we did it and we were so happy at the end. We just fought so hard for each other. Became so aware of each others skills and abilities. Players are so ready to die for you at times. Magic times.

Like I say I’m done with open world questing. Remove scaling and I would maybe do it again. I want the challenge of choosing my own battles and strengths of mobs. That means reds as much as greys. I want to gather and dig arch without being troubled by pesky mobs and I want the thrill of tripping over into Ghostlands and taking on the reds when I feel like it. Also Ghostlands was classic as the difficulty built up to the final area. Now you can go there from level 10. I very often grouped to do the last area in Ghostlands… now you don’t have to bother. Its always yellow… and very boring. Shame.

Ahh Scaling they joy of soloing Icecrown just to get killed by a Wetland snake.

Pre lvl 48, you can use Earth-shock in most cases, after lvl 48, you just have to focus on earthquakes. It does require some luck and setup, but it works most of the time.
This is the talents I use on my shaman (as of lvl 109)

(I hope it shows it filled in properly)
Aftershock, Earth shield and Elemental Attunement are the key talents to use.
Aftershock allows you to cast up to an unlimited amount of earthquakes, depending on your luck.
Whilst earth shield increases the healing you get after pulling a couple of mobs.
Although Elemental Attunement isn’t mandatory to pull of the destruction that earthquake causes, it is very useful to increase your luck of getting extra free earthquakes.
The way it works is, You attack and kill 1 or 2 mobs to gain some maelstrom, then you try and pull as many as your earth elemental can take, chain lighting until you reach full maelstrom and start casting earthquakes. You can cast two with Elemental attunement, increase the chance of Aftershock proccing.
Generally, two earthquakes brings the mobs down to about 20% of their health. If you don’t get the proc, you just chain lighting the rest of them down.
You can do the same trick without the Earth elemental, just with less mobs.

So you gimp yourself by refusing to use heirlooms and moan about lack of Crit gear but have no enchants on anything.

On a side note - Pandaria isn’t too bad at 80 or at least it wasn’t a few months ago when I levelled an old 80 Twink to 85

You make leveling cycle, with no concrete main at level 120 and you are complaining how bad it is? You must be masochist if you’re cycling the things you hate at your own will. Get level 120 and forget about leveling mate

I’ve quested a lot. when i hit the 110-120 range i just wanna stop

Every character i’ve taken to 120 so far has felt weaker than at 110, this is on a non-raiding, minimal dungeon playstyle(both legion and now, basically stopped grouping up after wrath of the lich king as most of our group stopped playing).

The current item scaling, especially during leveling, but also at max level is killing the feeling of being a hero, of getting stronger, you don’t.

even my less played alts, that replaced their legion gear in the first 2-3 levels, started losing effective power around 116, and at 119 they are just plain weak.

No idea what gimp means. If you mean I gotta join the pointy hat brigade… Give me a break. So funny.

I just have hit a road block with items dropping crit and vers. The game is obviously only designed for end game players. which is what I thought. SO if you want top play the game properly, say as a new player you are penalised. SO how is that going to bring new blood to the game.

Chicken and egg I would have thought. And sorry to train enchant from a base stump you are gonna hit the road block again of the transmog nonsense that destroyed the AH for any item. Just go look at what greens you can buy to raise dust. It aint worth it.

Maybe take your green tinted goggles off and see what its like playing the game the way it should be played and not using oodles f gold to pay your way to end game. Like I say … end gamers dream. Every one else is just penalised. And having tryed to climb the pile six times on the same realm the pattern is exactly the same. Even the drops occur like clockwork at the same bosses. Its worse than RNG its a fixed pack. The cards are marked and you can’t win with better gear doing it commando.

Me I love the dungeosn and I really have no problem getting to 81. Easy peasy. Don’t need a pointy hat and motorbike for that. Its kids stuff. I just wish it was more rewarding and not fixed to suit ONLY loomers. Saying that they are entertaining in dungeons as they tend to jump all the time without their silly motorbikes. So funny.

Still no idea what a gimp is.

gimp - restrict yourself.

You make a choice to play without items that enhance levelling, and that are a one off cost, won’t enchant anything and then moan you cant get items with Crit / Versa.

Even if you don’t want 'looms enchants are cheap if you don’t go for BiS, it’s not like you are doing some sort of Iron man challenge to get to 120.

I find it weird that you complain it takes you longer to kill mobs but wont actively doing anything that helps with this, and that is an entirely you issue.

So if you don’t get the pointy hats and looms the dungeon drops that you get from your dungeon runs always have a negative value for the stats that matter. Doesn’t matter then does it. I haven’t got an issue with dungeons. They are easy. Very easy. Its only players that make the dungeons hard. Questing is dull and boring cus the games creators implemented scaling to try and slow players down.

Scaling is also bonkers. I was in Blackrock yesterday and started pea-shooting again where my spells refused to do damage. The game RNG for dungeons threw me into a LichKing dungeon at 59 on my new char and I couldn’t believe how powerful I was. It was embarrassing. I was cutting through mobs like a knife through butter.

The other night I was 42 and got grouped with a bunch of 60s in a dungeon which was very strange. Sadly this was just dreadful. I couldn’t kill anything . I nearly quit. Yet the next dungeon where I was grouped with players my same level my power came back up. I find that it really goes on a cycle of steadily getting worse until I get better again. And it is obvious the scaling doesn’t really scale it does some calc on your actual level relative to the mob stats as they use to be.

SO… if you are a low level as I was at 58/59 and the original mobs were say 71 but scaled to suit your current level you will have a massive power shift and be almost a kill machine. But as your levels start to equalise with the mob strengths so you are Level 71 fighting original level 71 mobs your power drops to pea shooting. Trust me I have done it so many times. The variable is the looms. They had to factor in that looms would make up the power difference.

I level through dungeons no problem. Its easy. Fast. Queues are slow and getting very slow at the moment. My gripe is that the drops that I get want to reduce my crit and vers. It wouldn’t matter if I was loomed up to the teeth or enchanted up to the teeth… the drops would still be useless. How does that help.

I wouldn’t quest cus its boring. That has nothing to do with looms. And trust me not questing I don’t have to put up with the eternal sound of motorbikes. Seriously you need looms to quest and level. That’s a joke. Like anything is hard in this game. The world just lost all purpose and meaning. Levelling has no relative bearing on what you do any-more its a bonkers mess. And a child of three could walk through this game… Nothing is hard. Its just tedious and long.

And dungeons, well its just a case of a queue and keeping your fingers crossed the groups are not headless chickens. Yesterday wasn’t a good day. I have actually never known it so bad. I have no issue killing stuff, only takes a few seconds to clear mobs. But it would be nice if the game actually rewarded players for their efforts. There would be actually no difference in the drops at all whether you were a loomer or not.

Also the drops run like clockwork. Having levelled the same class six times in the last month… the same staff drops from the same bosses in the same dungeons. The wands start to feed in and off hand in the same locations. You get the same chest item after the same bosses in the same dungeons. The stuff is so predictable. PREDICTABLE and its boring and dreary and doesn’t give any feeling of reward. And that is the point. It was never like this. When the balance was not scaled and I played properly and with zonal progression and NOT using pointy hats and looms I actually found the game challenging cus I could pick my fights. I could choose to play in higher levels to test my metal. Can’t do that now. Its yellow from 1 to 120.

In summary the game is dull and boring not challenging and rewarding. Scaling ruined everything, and why. To give loomers a sense of challenge. And the developer has admitted they have given up on expanding this game in their traditional markets. They are going for China and the game is being customised for that. And their only answer to trying to hang onto their current player base is scaling. An artificial mechanism to give an apparent sense of power. But all it does is shift the variable on health pools and not actually add real content that is challenging. They have abandoned the traditional World of Warcraft for a brighter future in the east. You can’t see it cus your a loomer and playing end game.

Anyway… I enjoy my dungeons cus players are so amusing. Specially the ballet dancing loomers that like to think they can do things on their own. Pulling everything and running off with them all and then moaning why healers and casters can’t keep up. I just let them have their moment and take my time. Anyway, that’s another story. Its fun and I am about ready for my seventh. And its busy at the moment cus the end gamers are doing ten second dungeons for love rockets. So so so o funny. And that is what the game has become. Nonsense.

Mine is just a voice, sometimes among many, but Blizzard just doesn’t care.

And, my voice says: “Scaling is a total failure.” I never wanted anything like it.

The entire thread sounds more like a “I want free instants levels” rather than a call for an appealing levelling. You can perfectly play the game with just 2 characters and anything else is just redundant. If you don’t want to go through the leveling process, don’t expect getting alters for granted. The only thing that could be debatable is the Heritage Armor and, even then, you can just roll a monk, get your leather heirlooms updated (8.1.5 will even lower the upgrade price and add the 120 heirlooms so you can level by just grinding islands) and enchanted plus the exp potion and level fast. There are a lot of options to make leveling smoother.

Also, the whole nitpick with the 110-120 is complete bull. The decrease in power and the slowdown has happened with literally all expansions and this time isn’t even the most acute case, when back in MoP, when the ilvl mattered, the jumps in difficulty in Cataclysm and Pandaria zones made the first levels in each zone a real pain for pretty much any class that recently hit the entry level and wasn’t a solo content beast (namely hunters). Furthermore, Zandalar and Kul’tiras literally pile up together all of the leveling shortcuts from previous expansions (bonus zones, invasions, exp potions,…) and add even more with Island Expedition and EXP gems.

Youve got the vocal minority to thank for wanting everything to be hard. Even after outlevelling it.

Thought I would add my final thoughts to this thread…

I have never found levelling hard. Its actually bonkers easy. Can I start with that. Since killing my first mob outside Northshire Abby in 2008 the game has given me the exact same challenge. Point - click - kill. I am now 101 and in the Legion zones and what am I doing … pointing at mobs and just killing them. There is nothing hard in that. The only variable is the health pool. And that equates to time which is what this game developer sells. Everything is related to time and time only. All that you do, achieve and get is allows you to reduce time.

Thing is I have done that to death. Seriously. Its boring … just boring. What I actually like is adventure, exploration and problem solving and the joy of creating hopefully a unique character. Its a challenge but one that I have adapted as the game changed… and sorry but you can say what you like but ENDGAME has never been about exploration, adventure and problem solving. It is only about gear progression so you can kill things quicker. KILL THINGS QUICKER. And only that. Not interested.

This time around I tried a different route to 120. Trust me I have gotten to 120. Its wasn’t hard. I didn’t even have a weapon or gear up. That was my challenge. I have so many characters sitting at the higher levels I could pick and choose. This year alone I have levelled 8 to 80 on another realm and have this one at 101. But I’m sick of just mindlessly killing stuff.

I was just in a Legion zone and I thought I was trying to find Sylvanas. Instead I’m wondering around an area without any clue as to what is going on. There are cow people and mobs regurgetated [ spolling ] from Zuldrak and they are fighting each other. This character got me to throw stuff into a boiling cauldron or something… Its quite insulting as a challenge. Nothing from what I read makes sense. I just have to kill stuff. But now I have run out and there is nothing in the quest log and these mobs just keep spawning endlessly. I just got sick of it and went back to Undercity. Bored.

I wanted to see this time if I could get to 120 doing just dungeons. Trust me its impossible. I went to bed last night having been in a queue for over two hours and it never happened. I have been in a queue for over an hour today and nothing has happened. Dungeons start to dry up at 80 and then just vanish completely by the time you get to 100. If anyone has a differing experience I would love to hear about it.

I did manage to just about create a Garrison in WoD though never built anything there. Over the days I was levelling other characters I did log in on this char and try for the odd half hour to get a dungeon and was lucky to be able to get pops over the month of Feb and get enough dungeons to get to Legion. It was a drag.

I got my artefact weapon but hadn’t realised it was a crappy sword. I just clicked fire on that book and went again to meet the Lich King and got this oversized load of junk that sits in my bank. My mistake but hey… kinda ruined things a bit. Maybe I can trade it in and get a stick.

I love my sticks but I can’t get sticks. The game refuses to give me sticks. It likes giving me wands and gloves. Mostly gloves. I think in WoD I got gloves nearly every dungeon. Generally useless. Both Wod and Pandaria were notable for giving me bags full of junk from dungeons that always but always wanted to reduce my stats. Alway reduce my stats. Doesn’t matter anyway with scaling… you never need to upgrade your gear and weapons. In fact you only need to upgrade at the end of an expansion so you can do the next expansion dungeons.

I do like this game. I do like the challenge of levelling. In truth I only like levelling. But I am struggling to make this latest challenge work of getting to 120 with dungeons. Its just not possible. Shame that.

My current queue stands at 1 hour and 33 minutes. I am the only person in the queue. No healer, no tank and 1 damage. I sense I am the only person playing that wants to do a dungeon. And I am AFK. My choice is to go back to Legion and kill cow people for what ever reason while I wait or sit here and watch YouTube videos. I think if the gameplay was in anyway challenging and or made sense and wasn’t just about mind numbing killfests that involve little other than expending time doing it I would go quests. When I recall some of the truly wonderful quest chains in the earlier game that were more about the challenge than ’ just killing stuff ’ . Like the towers quests from Darkshore to Ashenvale… man was that fun.

Anyway… like I say I have no quests in my Legion queue. There is a marker on one of the flight paths I can see, but I have to trudge through endless cow people to get there. And its that trudging that I truly hate now… especially as I now have this irritating stone noise underfoot. Grates on me. Sorry… I think I am finally coming to the end I fear. , 1 hour and 45 minutes into a queue. Not happening.

May as well level another character. Dunno. Or play something else. The magic had died from my game. So sad.

No reply needed. I think that brings to a close my experience of this specific challenge. I d’aint work.

That is not how scaling works.

Isn’t this the core of the issue? Scaling means levelling up makes you weaker.

It feels like total ****. There’s no other way to put it.

And yes I know there are certain advantages to it and I know that there’s all kinds rational reasons we can list why scaling is a good thing, but that doesn’t change the fact that it feels terrible, and ultimately my enjoyment of a game is controlled by how I fee l when I play it, so yeah.

Only secondary stats can make you stronger if you can crit more so kill with less spells, or haste so you can cast more spells in the same timeframe. Primary stats are useless, week or two ago i saw 330ilvl spriest who did 40k aoe dps, 1st place in warfront.

Warfront are kinda useless as a value meters due to the huge buff you can get.

That was almost at the beginning so we didn’t have acces to Blistering Power.

But that’s why they did it. Any argument to suggest the community wanted scaling because it brings back the challenge was merely planted.

If you look at reviews for products on many websites you’ll see 5 star reviews all over the place, we all know now that this is rigged (though some of us knew from the start), the forums are no different. Blizzard could make a change to the game that would drastically increase time played while giving nothing back then just plant a few comments on the forum backing their reasons for it. This cheap, easy and effective means would murk the water enough to create a perceived balance of opinion and even change the minds (in favour of the changes) of those who easily conform thus creating further weight to their actions, beautiful.

Doesn’t take much to control the stupid.
