Why is Blacksmithing suddenly a PVP profession?

All new Nazjatar recipes rely on Expulsom. Once crafted, the Expulsom is not refundable via scrapper. I wanted to grab rank 2 of those recipes, to reduce expulsom cost, but every single last one of those requires 2 Marks of Honor to buy.

There were some recipe upgrades restricted to PVP at launch of BFA, with similar upgrade costs, but there was also plenty of alternatives for those flat out uninterested in participating. Why was it so completely neglected in 8.2?

I’d like to get my skill up to 175 and grab those new BOP recipes, and I’d like to keep the cost of doing so low. I don’t understand why you felt the need to charge me extra resources for not being interested in PVPing. As far as I understand, other professions - such as alchemy - get their rank 2 in exchange for gold, which seems like the sane thing to ask. Why are PVE blacksmiths getting punished for still sticking with blacksmithing?

Forgive me if i’m wrong, i haven’t gotten around to leveling my blacksmithing in 8.2 yet.
But isn’t it only the (BoE) pvp Combatant gear recipes that require these Mark of Honor, with the (BoP) Osmenite gear recipes selling for gold from the trainer ?

That said, i wouldn’t be surprised if you might need a handful of Marks of Honor to level the profession up efficiently again, but you could get those just from turning on warmode and doing a pvp quest or zone assault or the like. You’d only need a couple of them to support leveling to 175 with minimal mats.

I don’t think its really a Blacksmith-punish as the same applies to the other professions that craft sellable (BoE) gear, Alchemy doesn’t really compete with Blacksmithing in that space, but when it comes to leveling up the profession they do have a (little) advantage.

Dont you get half expulsom back in 8.2 grade crafting from scrapping? That was the thing for no longer needed raid resources.

You mean every piece except the ones for 111 and the BoP pieces?

Or are you telling me it is very different than tailoring (then I might want to switch to blacksmithing).

I craft blankets for the mount equippment, so I don’t need expulsom and they sell (even on my extremely small realm) at an acceptable rate.
So if it is only about skillpoints, I would advise a similar direction.

That’s the BoP pieces, not the “PvP gear” you can use to get your first skill points.

I don’t know whether they are still available or not but in Legion there were world quests that rewarded 5 marks of honor per quest for doing some PVE content while PVP-flagged. I suggest you take a closer look at that option.
