Why is everything so competitive?

It’s because all the wotlk/retail players have come over to SOD and tainted it. Everyone asking for things like gearscore which is absurd, everyone knows GS in vanilla is redundant and doesnt work

Being competitive in a game is fun for me. Are you going to tell me how I should be having fun?
How about you play however you want, and I’ll continue being super competitive playing the way I want?
There’s people of all levels, casuals, sweatlords, and everything in between. Find similarly minded people to play with, and ignore things that do not concern you in the slightest (aka, competition and competitive players).

edit: didn’t read the entire thread before replying, lmao at these comments, so many bad players out there*
*which is fine, because I don’t play with y’all, so I couldn’t care less, I’m not going to insult you guys like you guys are insulting competitive players.

Honestly its just a workaholic mentality, people are so full of tasklists they cant stop that attitude even when in a videogame.
Personally I only experienced chill groups. Also had really cool little interactions, like sb helping me with a quest and waiting for 10mins for respawn just because he killed the mob in front of me, people being read for open pvp even when we where originally meant to do a quest etc. I also ignored or actively declined toxic minmaxers, like people msging me “item xY in DM is locked”, I just tell them I wont join a group that locks items in DM, or in general.

I think its kinda absurd to try to get competitive in WoW, like lmao, whats next? Getting competitive in going for a drink with your friends? In tying your shoe?

Farmbot just joined the conversation.

So now speaking the truth is insulting? grow a pair my friend, your feelings are liable to be hurt a lot in your life, and we dont care, noone spoke about you specifically, as noone knows you my little snowflake, and the way you are speaking, noone would want to.
People are just speaking about the general mentality of SoD right now, and they are right, because retailers have destroyed it. But i want to be fair because each side has a story, so instead of calling ppl bad players, tell us this:
What are you competing for? Who are you competing against? What is the objective? You arent making it to e-sports any time soon if you are here, so what is it all about? Fame? Glory? The feeling of having better gear than anyone else? There is no, and wont be any sort of legitimate competition in SoD because it was designed for old players to have fun again, not with this mentality in mind. Neither of these aforementioned reasons are about competition, they are about personal validation, which is not the point of a game, and if it is, seek help immediately.

The general mentality? There is no general mentality. They usually say birds of a feather flock together, something you crybabies should try, instead of trying to run with people who have completely different goals in the game than you do.
Bad players who want to get boosted is all I see when I see threads like this.
What’s so difficult about playing with likeminded people of the same skill level? There’s plenty of you, I see you all crying on the forums, maybe you should be playing the game instead so you can group up.
And nobody was speaking any truth, just generalizing these competitive players with zoomers (how the hell even? zoomers don’t play wow classic bro), and no life irl, for whatever reason, probably cause you got denied to a group asking for logs and having none or grey ones.

And what is my objective? What is yours? Pressing 2 buttons clearing the raid and everything else while fingering your nose and wearing a blindfold & still not failing at anything because the game is so easy? Well, so is mine, with added competition of parsing. I like to go for 99s, frick me right?
There will always be competition in online games lmao what are you even saying. I am perfectly fine with you not caring about any of this, I actually wished people who don’t like our playstyle don’t care, but they clearly do otherwise we wouldn’t be arguing here about it.

Said the farmbot who joined the forums 5 days ago to come here and tells us what the game is about. Good for you bro

I’m posting on my SoD character because we’re on the SoD forums talking about SoD, just makes more sense to me. I can post on a 15 year old character, what difference would it make? Irrelevant post. I’m just trying to be respectful but you keep acting like a little child.
Your complaints carry no weight, you can simply choose to ignore that which bothers you and play with likeminded individuals. So have fun with that, don’t bother other people because you’re upset.

There are more casual MMOs you can play where it’s less competitive. You would have a blast in FFXIV. Lets keep at least one MMO game slightly competitive

Not really sure a casual season of dad’s is the right game to be competitive though? play it for what it is rather than trying to turn it into something it’s not designed for

very respectful, thank you

I said I was trying. You should see me when I’m not.
It’s hard being completely nice when getting insulted.

If you have some spare time at hand, might wanna watch “Why it is rude to suck at Warcraft” on a popular VoD platform.

Gamers, in particular MMO players, changed dramatically in how they approach their games.

This is particular true for classic, which appears to have a limited and all but similar audience with each re-release - no Zoomers or Retail players guilty en masse, sorry - and has been discovered, optimized and played through a bazillion times.
A couple of Runes spice that up a bit, but won’t change all that much in the end.

Luckily, a good amount of chill people is also around.

i made a bfd group yesterday, didnt check anybody and we cleared easily. like all you have to do is log in every 3 days do a raid and then go gank alliance or whatever you like. noone cares about your dps or tanking skills unless you are absolutely bottom of the barrel and the group wipes bc of you multiple times.

I don’t know how competitive you are and it’s hard to judge in a game that has no achievement or rating system implemented.

PvP titles are literally achieved through time investment and not skill.

For all we know you could have the illusion you’re a big time player, when the reality is you just join pre mades or brought illegal gold to buy pre bis gear.

But I will take you word that your good at the game and you have found your community that lets you play the game as you like it.

Please don’t hate because I’m tryna to find mine. An easy solution for this is, is to create a casual friendly realm with a unique rule sets.

Although a rule set may not be required, it could be useful to remove toxic people from a realm that is considered casual friendly.

The realm type alone would aim for like-minded people to sign up too.

First of all I agree 100% with OP. That being said it seems like a lot of people think that being competitive and having fun are mutual exclusive. It is quite possible that being super competitive in this game is also the definition of fun for a lot of players. The reason you stated probably contributes to this as well.

But acting like fun and being competitive can’t exist in the same context is just ignorant.

I did yesterday bfd with all greens lol. Is this the raid that the sweatlords need to inspect you? I only died once cause the tank died. Legit the only thing you need is a shadow prot pot and you are good

I’m not that competitive in PvP but of course I will do my best. My main drive is parsing, you can check my logs, they’re far from perfect but if I get 99s across the board I’m satisfied.
I’m not hating at all, on the contrary, I came here to defend my kind because we were getting hated on. Please do play as you wish.

I’ve always played WoW completely casually. I’ve only played LFR, I just get the minimum gear I need to do my story content or fishing.

I’ve played Classic alongside competitive content in retail for a couple of years, and must say, the Wotlk community is something else. It’s a bunch of adults trapped in a child’s brain, who finally found a place where instead of being bullied they get to be the bullies.

I agree i minmax because it’s fun. just because someone is minmaxing doesn’t mean he gets no maidens, lives in mothers basement or measuring digital d*cks with others. maybe he is just enjoying to play that way?
