Why is it ok for cosmetics to be in the store?

People are always saying that it’s ok for cosmetics to be added to the store because it “doesn’t affect gameplay”. As someone whose main activity is collecting mogs/mounts/pets etc. Cosmetics ARE my gameplay. Now I know I can grind gold and buy them with tokens, but Blizzard is still earning even more money this way. I believe they should seriously tone down the amount of cosmetics added to the store. It feels like BFA has had more mounts added to the store than many other expansions combined…

I collect transmog too and I don’t really care. Once in 7 years is not enough to ruin your gameplay let’s be real.

There’s 1 set. 7 years before that there was 3 heads. There’s literally nothing to tone down

I wasn’t referring to the ugly mog they added. I was mainly referring to the mounts.

Then say that instead of “cosmetics” and “I farm transmog for my gameplay”. That literally screams transmogs & items and not mounts.

They add one item every 6 months or so, it’s really not a problem. You still get a lot to collect in game. There are literally hundreds of looks to collect for each page on the collection tab. One or two sets won’t make a dent in your gameplay.

I said “It feels like BFA has had more mounts added to the store than many other expansions combined…” so I think it was pretty clear. But for me ANY cosmetic feels just wrong. If it was a free to play game then sure, go ahead. But for a subscription based game it feels wrong…

Mounts =/= Cosmetics.

And it’s like what, 6 mounts in BFA? That’s 2.4m gold over 2 years, pretty sure anyone could afford that if they wanted it cause they want everything no matter where it comes from. There’s still plenty of other mounts to get ingame if you don’t want to use the store, you can easily pass the entire mount collector achievment and some more with only ingame mounts

Just buy some wow tokens with in game gold. I know it’s a pain to farm atm. But it’s not all that bad you don’t need to pay cash for it. So it doesn’t bother me at all.

But it’s common practice in MMORPGS atm even ff14 do it. They have way more on their store.

Most of the mounts have come with a 6 month sub which actually works out as pay for 5 months and get 6 months so is cheaper and gives a mount as a bonus. One was for 6 month game time bit still the same principle.

They have added plenty of mounts in game too.

There are a lot of new mounts coming in SL some may be sub/game time mounts but most will be in game mounts.

That’s their opinion and it’s not wrong. Yours is different and also not wrong.

The fact is that people who want this crap will buy this crap. People who don’t will forget it exists.

And it is my opinion that so far, the store fluff is not going overboard with the microtransactions.

Because they probably are whales coming from Guild Wars 2 and similar games with no sub fee and every effort is put on the store (which is one of the reasons I left). So they are used to spend money to look good : instant gratification and all that.

The others, don’t care because they don’t see beyond what is currently present to us.

This sale is clearly a test and the assets probably were reserved for Blizzcon ticket.

Mounts are not cosmetics??? Since when? Unless they have a special effect like the sky golem then they are 100% cosmetic. If you have one flying mount then nothing changes except for the appearance. Also BFA added 7 mounts total. That is 7x40 euro from someones pocket if you farm them with tokens. Just because you buy the tokens with gold doesn’t mean they aren’t paid by with irl money.

And if someone is happy to shell out that money what’s the issue?
If you buy tokens you’re just paying with gold, why does it matter if someone else is paying? Does their economic situation affect you?

My issue is that this gives Blizzard the courage to do it more and more. Look at how many mounts were added to the store during BFA compared to other expac. They will do it more and more and much more frequently the more people buy into it…

Yes just like it supposedly has for the last 7 years since the store was open?

tbh i have no issue with cosmetic at the store as long as you get them anyway if you are sub to the game, but when they charge you more to get a mounts, pets or this clown outfit on a game you already pay for then we have a problem. I am glad more awesome items exist in the game already that I can play and unlock.
The pay 6 months a sub and get a free mount or this tiem is not a bad idea but i already pay a monthly fee for the game and get nothing out of it then logging into my mains.
If it was up to me i would intreduce new class quest lines with cool and matching fantasy cosmetic outfits. Not only would it be rewarding it would also add more cosmetic items with a heavy focus on your class and race.

You’re right, it takes big courage from a company to give you 1 month sub for free when companies usually only want MORE money and to top it off they gave us 1 mount and 6 months gametime for the cost of 5 months

Tokens were introduced because so many people were paying money for gold from other players outside of the tos. And probably often getting scammed.

people who pay money for tokens to get gold were going to do it anyways.

Buying one for gold is the in game mechanic to get the store stuff without you paying a penny yourself.

Blizzard, a business, making money is no bad thing.

Stop being so sensible…these are the WoW General Forums!!

And I never said them getting money is a bad thing. When it feels like they are getting more and more greedy is the main issue.
