Why is it that Mage is so weak compared to f.e Warlock? (Raiding)

i just remembered about slow fall, i cast this on a guildy before a fight and he flew straight in to the raid boss. it was an alt night btw.

did you follow a guide or build to start, i also have a shaman but haven’t played it for a long time. Be an idea when i get board of this one.

I started playing it how I liked, but found the damage to be somewhat lacking.

I quite enjoyed the way Surge of Power and Aftershocks played, if you were lucky you get get tonnes of extra Lightning Bolt overloads, shame the damage wasn’t all that great.

Follow the guide on Icy Veins for best results. I use the single target spec for everything, it’s a nice all rounder.

This is the mage forum, where you can discuss the state of the game from a mage pov. Just asking ppl to re-roll doesn’t solve anything.

Personally I love playing my mage, and find it highly enjoyable. It just sucks that im in th bottom of the dps meter, and im pretty much only brought to raids because of int and the fact that im ranged…

So I think OP’s is completly valid; mages are in a tough spot yet again. I have been playing mage since classic, and it’s not wrong to say that warlocks in generel have drawn the longer straw when it comes to dps. Not that mages always have done bad, but just most of the time worse than warlocks.

It might actually solve things. If people keep playing mage then developers won’t be allowed to prioritize time to change things, however if large swaths of people stop playing things will change for the mage class.

I will give you an example, one of the best traits for warlock is flashpoint, it gives you a personal BL whenever you dot something over 80% HP
1boss adds (adds you can dot when they spawn so u get BL for 10 sec everytime adds spawn or are unkilled)
2nd boss adds
3boss adds
4rth boss warlocks are bad ooo poor warlocks
5th boss BL for 100% of the fight due to 2 bosses and 1 is always 80%+ hp
6th boss Bl for 50% of the fight due to trait
7th boss affliction trait for drain life don’t need to say more
8th boss, BL everytime adds spawn
Jaina i don’t know yet still working on storm, but am sure there is something

MAGE
1-9 boss no trait that makes u benefit from any boss just a tiny flat total dmg increase.

And i don’t even play my warlock much, the above is an example don’t take it as 100% accurate, some bosses affliction is better
The raid are designed for warlock or similar classes
