Since hunters are allowed all sorts of one handed melee weapons, and there are several in lore hunters that dual wield, why is it that we are not allowed to have some of that 2x1 handed goodeness? You have Rexxar, Sylvanas (when going melee) as well as several as other elf rangers, shadow hunters (i know that they are not technically hunters but they are really close to them and the only way to RP one properly).
There are too many abilities that require to use a 2 handed weapon. I think it’s nonsense.
I think its beacuse there was lesss 2hand users in thr game and another dual wield was just bloat on the loot pool
Personally im fine with ny 2handed polearms i love polearms .
We can speculate that, like Theloa said, a reason can be the number of melee based specs who uses 2h weapons aren’t that many.
It can also be partially due to the devs just thinking that 2h for SV fits the most.
You also have the factor of the time and work required to make combat animations related to SV specific abilities and attacks for both 2h weapons as well as 1h weapons.
And more…
As for why SV players cannot choose between 2h and 2x 1h weapons atm is probably due to difficulties in terms of balancing. And like above, due to design intentions. Again, it’s just speculation. We have no official statement on this.
Are the above good reasons for why not to give SV players the choice to use 1h weapons? Depends on who you ask.
I just wanted the chance to choose. Not be obligated to use two handed weapons and that’s it. Like having dps Warriors only able to use two-handers and DK’s limited to spec related weapons. I never understood why can’t a frost DK must be limited to dual wield… or a enhancement shaman limited to dual wield. That’s my line of thought. I mention the Hunter since it’s my main’s class.
It’s due to balancing issue. Attack speed, procs, single/dual enchants.
It’s a pity they can’t do it, but hey, small indie company has limited resources.
Mostly, what @Tahen said.
What you could do, is to implement Dual Wield through a talent option. I’ve suggested something like creating a talent called Way of the Mok’Nathal that would let you equip(fight with) two 1h axes. Rexxar is of the clan Mok’Nathal so it does fit very well, thematically.
Having said that, ofc there would be difficulties with the balancing of such a talent when compared to other talents on the same row. But as long as they actually take the time to get the 3 options on that row within a fair few percent, it would be okay.
Not aiming for perfect balance, as that is simply not possible. But look at the opposite, look at Animal Companion for BM on live. The level of balance on that tier is horrible. Not to mention the mechanical issues with AC as a talent.
Anyway…it can certainly be done, it just requires some time and effort.
Because, EVERY WEAPIN IS A HUNTERWEAPIN! < jomjomjomgrabbedygrab >
Yeah please allow hunters to dual wield.
I fully support more weapons diversity, for Hunter’s.
I started with this character, back in vanilla and all I saw was things being removed, one after another.
There was a time when we could have 3 weapons at the same time.
1 ranged and 2x1 hand melee weapons.
Classic is here.
You can try it and see what a dual wield Hunter was.
It had many advantages over 2 hand users like double agility enchant, for raids.
2x1 handers
- 15 + 15 = 30 agility.
1x2 hand weapon
- 25 agility.
But at the same time I see where they are coming from.
Warriors could also dual wield 2x1 hand weapons, a couple of years ago.
That got removed.
Now they can only dual wield 2 hand weapons.
In my opinion, it’s all about loot and distribution.
Maybe they thought they just had too many classes needing on one handed weapons, also too many slots to fill as well.
That’s why the Hunter can only equip either 1 ranged weapon if you are MM or BM or 1x2handed weapon.
Back in vanilla warriors, rogues, Hunter’s could all equip 1 ranged weapon and 2x1 handed weapon.
I remember I was doing a a 5 man instance, ZF with my priest and a BoE blue weapon dropped.
The Hunter wanted it because it was a slight upgrade over his bow.
Problem was our tank wanted as well, because of the stats.
The warrior literally forced the Hunter to equip the gun, to make sure he wasn’t going to put it in the AH.
Another example, I read came from a 40 man pug MC.
This amazing 1 hand sword dropped and the tank warrior rolled need over the rogue that actually needed it.
Why ?
Because he wanted it for his DPS dual wield farm gear.
Than a plate item dropped for that tank and the rogue needed it and sold it to the repair bot.
As you can see loot back in the day generated a lot of conflicts.
There was a lot of ninja rolls and problems (Warlock needing on one hand axe over the Orc tank warrior, because of enchant materials).
That’s my opinion.
Cheers.
They removed it in the name of homogenization, just like how Fury warriors are limited to 2x 2H when previously they could do 2x 1H and how frost DKs are locked into dual wield.
If anything a cosmetic option could also work, if they don’t want to balance things around two weapon play styles.
Am I missing something? I have a lvl 20 hunter in classic and learned the passive skill Dual Wield. Weapon is 1hnd axe. Yet I can’t equip a 2nd axe in my off hand slot. Reading this post suggests its impossible to dual wield for hunters. Than why the dual wield skill???
Edit: Fell into that trap of ordering a 1hnd weapon without realizing it was main hand only lol. Yes it works!
you still can dual wield, just that mongoose bite requires a 2-hander to be equipped for it to be used
