A lot of the arguments people put forth is the same as going “Are you not satisfied with Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle? You have access to all three types already. You don’t need the other 147 pokemon because it’s just vanity.”. It’s already effort to have to go through the world to find rares or a certain type of creature. The game also doesn’t tell you where or how to tame these creatures, it simply says that you are not able to tame that type.
It’s unrealistic to expect players to spend literal days of their life to simply unlock the ability to tame a specific pet family. That is flat out idiotic. A lot of the people defending such absurdities come off as having done it already, so they want to feel special because they went through the suffering to get it. I don’t mind a bit of effort to tame a specific creature in the world, but to be denied the ability to tame a type of creature is ridiculous when the hurdle to obtain such ability is a mountain.
It’s not quick, it’s not intuitive, and accessing old content is painful because WoW is full of misinformation or the info just doesn’t exist. For example, I tried to do Shadowlands and was sitting in Oribos after taking a portal there. I could not understand why I was unable to access anywhere else because there were no means of travel to those other land masses for Shadowlands. There was no quest or anything else to indicate what the problem was. Info online was either wrong or it didn’t exist for the problems I may have seen along the way because I was going back to the old content.
In Mists of Pandaria, there are apparently invisible beasts that roam unbelievably long paths and the footprints they leave behind can only be seen by hunters. I would never have even conceived of that if not for me looking up pets for that expansion. The book to tame Cloud Serpents is some obscure vendor on the far east side of the map.
Legion’s info online is almost entirely from the time of the content being live. There are obscure pieces that talk a bit about it from the time of The War Within. However, a lot of that info assumes you had played it before and leaves out key info such as needing friendly renown with five factions to unlock world quests.
People assume I want to easily walk into a Walmart and purchase pets off of a shelf. My biggest problem is that the way to achieve such mundane things that should inherently be a part of the class, are gated behind layers upon layers of monumental hurdles, misinformation, or a total lack of information.
Blizzard took a core element of a class, split it up into fragments, and then scattered it across the five realms. I understand seeking out and hunting rare specimens. I can’t understand why a hunter whose primary skill is to tame to animals is somehow perplexed as to how to tame a gryphon when they can already tame a bird or lion.
