Why is the pet part of Hunters so miserable?

There are a ton of pet families locked behind ridiculous walls. A lot of books require renown and then you need to do quests or acquire some kind of resource to even buy them. One is a drop from a dungeon boss.

I don’t get why Hunter seems to be the only class that has such stupid hurdles to do one of their primary functions. Mages can just walk up to a portal trainer and get all their portals. Warlocks seem to get all their pet abilities with no issue.

It’s absurd that a class has such miserable restrictions on any of its mechanics, let alone its primary one. Before someone makes a comment about “Well you don’t need every pet family”, you could say the same thing about mage portals and make them have to travel by boat everywhere to get their portal skills. It’s all just arbitrary garbage in the end that creates horrific quality of life for no meaningful reason.

Hunters should have a trainer, just like mages , that teaches them all these skills for gold. No renown, no dungeon boss drop, etc. Or just give them the skills out the gate. Either way, it’d be a lot better than the terrible design that currently exists.

RPG mechanics in an mmoRPG? no way.

I can see your point but at the same time caster have it with the legendary staff and the same is with people that want thunderfury or the ICC axe or the legendary daggers. Those will have to farm a long time to get those and in the end all those pets with the exception of undead raptors for pvp, they are mostly cosmetic. A part of this game is farming. Which sometimes is easier when an expansion is current and sometimes its easier when an expansion is not current(mythic raid gear for example.)

So you want access to all pets for the sake of wanting them without putting in any effort, even though they are not required in any way shape or form outside of vanity?

It’s fun and thematic to have different pets with various ways to unlock them imo, and adds to the RPG element of the game.

Your game is not broken not having instant access to these pets locked behind renowned, and in all honesty, you only really need 2 types of pets to do any form of content in the game for PvP and PvE.

What they could do though is bring back pet skill trees and allow any pet to be and do pretty much anything, including the spells they cast and the debuffs they apply.

A lot of the arguments people put forth is the same as going “Are you not satisfied with Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle? You have access to all three types already. You don’t need the other 147 pokemon because it’s just vanity.”. It’s already effort to have to go through the world to find rares or a certain type of creature. The game also doesn’t tell you where or how to tame these creatures, it simply says that you are not able to tame that type.

It’s unrealistic to expect players to spend literal days of their life to simply unlock the ability to tame a specific pet family. That is flat out idiotic. A lot of the people defending such absurdities come off as having done it already, so they want to feel special because they went through the suffering to get it. I don’t mind a bit of effort to tame a specific creature in the world, but to be denied the ability to tame a type of creature is ridiculous when the hurdle to obtain such ability is a mountain.

It’s not quick, it’s not intuitive, and accessing old content is painful because WoW is full of misinformation or the info just doesn’t exist. For example, I tried to do Shadowlands and was sitting in Oribos after taking a portal there. I could not understand why I was unable to access anywhere else because there were no means of travel to those other land masses for Shadowlands. There was no quest or anything else to indicate what the problem was. Info online was either wrong or it didn’t exist for the problems I may have seen along the way because I was going back to the old content.

In Mists of Pandaria, there are apparently invisible beasts that roam unbelievably long paths and the footprints they leave behind can only be seen by hunters. I would never have even conceived of that if not for me looking up pets for that expansion. The book to tame Cloud Serpents is some obscure vendor on the far east side of the map.

Legion’s info online is almost entirely from the time of the content being live. There are obscure pieces that talk a bit about it from the time of The War Within. However, a lot of that info assumes you had played it before and leaves out key info such as needing friendly renown with five factions to unlock world quests.

People assume I want to easily walk into a Walmart and purchase pets off of a shelf. My biggest problem is that the way to achieve such mundane things that should inherently be a part of the class, are gated behind layers upon layers of monumental hurdles, misinformation, or a total lack of information.

Blizzard took a core element of a class, split it up into fragments, and then scattered it across the five realms. I understand seeking out and hunting rare specimens. I can’t understand why a hunter whose primary skill is to tame to animals is somehow perplexed as to how to tame a gryphon when they can already tame a bird or lion.

The pets that require special taming skills are all just cosmetic extra class flavor, like the warlock green fire questline.

Some warlock pets also have unique skins that require various forms of shenanigans to get the different cosmetic skins for some of their demons.

The pet you have has no impact on gameplay whatsoever, even more so now that you can just change the pet’s spec at the stable.

If you want special things, you will need to put in the effort, stop being an entitled baby expecting games to spoon-feed everything to you.

Special pets are the one thing hunters have that truly gives spec / class flavor
you’re supposed to be a master of beasts.

It makes perfect sense from an RPG standpoint that you use your knowledge of beasts to use special methods to tame unique cosmetic pets.

And it makes perfect sense that you would want to expand your knowledge of how to tame different beasts as you travel to new lands.

And once again, from a gameplay standpoint, the type of pet you have has ZERO impact in gameplay.

Do you also want All transmogs, mounts, toys and battle pets available on a vendor too?

And if you want info of a type of pet you want, https://www.wow-petopia.com/index.php has everything you need.

With links to wowhead that also has guides or info how to tame some pets in the comments, It’s really not that hard finding the information if you really want those pets

You literally did exactly what I said people do:

You completely ignored everything I said. Part of which is:

Actually read people’s posts before you reply.
