Why is there like only one type of female character in Shadowlands?

Just for info, after we save Jaina from Torgast, Bolvar tells that we still need to save 2 heroes.
While there still are Thrall, Tyrande and Anduin. I guess Bolvar does not count female characters as heroes…

Tyrande doesn’t need to be saved from the Maw, though. She is roaming free and harassing the Jailer’s forces, refusing any “rescue” attempt.

So… it’s just that the guys are the damsels in distress.

She’s not imprisoned in there with THEM, They are imprisoned in there with HER! to freely quote the Watchman movie.

Honestly why is it always us, tasked with saving anyone or anything? I play a death knight an undead who literally is imprisoned between life and death, not fit for either. Why shouldn’t I side with Jailor too?

Don’t say that too loudly, the last time people complained that they weren’t able to side with the genocidal maniac, they got an option to be a double agent for them that did exactly the same things against them that the heroes did, and just gave up on their maniac in the end, after she got some bad PR.

Well I did side with her and got some cloak from her upon completion, but it has been said afterwards, that those choices will have no further impact on the gameplay.

Well…

I bagsy Jaina and Tyrande!

What? You bang them?

My question was/is when questing trough the zones, that where are the men? Most of the named npcs are female, which come off interesting when they put into the bulky, masculine shapes of the necro lords. I am not saying that there should not be phisically strong female characters, but, like the OP said, it feels wrong when it’s unbalanced, falling to the other side of the horse, and you can’t call yourself a true gender equalizer, if you just over-favour the other side. (And I am even saying this as an old fashioned conservative)

On the off-thread, I also don’t mind if they bring in african, asian like characters, if they give a lorewise explanation, why are they here, instead of the political message and the ‘if you don’t like it, you are racist’ mentality. (But come on, why would be it important to force pc into fantasy races, like dwarves, gnomes, elves?)

this is an era of strong female characters.

I feel that between Jaina, Tyrande, Sylvanas, Calia, Valeera, Alleria, Devos, Venaari, Winterqueen… there is plenty of variety in female characters. Old and new, different lives different challenges, different backgrounds.

Personally I hope they develop Devos’s role into something more significant than just a simple dungeon boss. She is already such a great character simply from her role in what was Blizz’s best cinematics.

This reminds me a bit the outcry with how Anub’arak was handled. Unfortunately, while he became a raid boss instead, there wasn’t really any interesting story development for him.

No, that’s exactly it. Lip service while at the same time completely turning all significant female characters into Captain Marvel caricatures. Arguably more misogynistic for Blizzard to be like this but they don’t actually care, nor have they ever written decent female characters - tends to happen when most of the creative force are 20-40 straight white males.

When I see people struggling with identity it’s because they often have trouble understanding their relationships and their roles. A fair few of us have terrible role models and follow bad habits and thus under appreciate relationships and roles like being a half decent parent, partner, sibling or even son or daughter , even friend for that matter…

So let’s look at the female characters in wow and their roles and relationships…

Mothers?
Aggra? - MIA. A mums place according to wowverse is to stay at home and raise kids off camera. Make cameos every so often and bolster the husband (or scold him) then exit stage right and do housework or such.

Any other mothers actually being a mum?

Sisters?
The Windrunners?
Well that’s gone like a fluff in the wind.
They sort of tried to tentatively tip their toes in the story but I guess if it’s too hard to depict a sister actually trying to play the role of a sister so let’s not bother. Blizzards solution is to let them go and fight each other because conflict is only good if it’s shallow … wow that’s mature.
Oh no if you are a sister and you become a mother then you should immediately exit stage right and raise kids off camera.

Daughter?
Taelia unexplored. Sort of hinted at but not done anything with.very superficial.

Edit
Further on Taelia (cool name btw)… it’s even worse than superficial. The chick was put on ice on an island somewhere until she was old enough to make an appearance. Ouch.
So forget young girl, or teenage female characters.

Please dig deeper if there are other female roles that are taken seriously in the wowverse… I’m curious what we can discover.

Golden and Roux are two of the most notable writers involved in WoWs recent developments.
That leaves Danuser and Brooks as the remaining notable cast of people involved in the narrative of these recent expansions.
At worst, you have a 50-50.

People seem to forget that the majority of main villains in BfA were female and Sylvanas is still the major antagonist.
