Why is there no started edition to classic?

I really felt like playing some WoW classic for a few hours today, and knowing it will likely just be those few hours today and nothing in a very long time I just got really disappointed I can’t, when retail WoW has such an offer. Retail in it’s current state is just of zero interest, so that just doesn’t cut it for me. In the launcher it looked like classic also had a free starter edition option, but logging on I realised that just isn’t the case.

Am I missing something, or does only retail have a free edition?

Only retail is free for the first 20 levels. Classic is included in the subscription.

Well yes, I just wish classic had the same option.

But classic isn’t free so why would it have a free to play option? It’s included with the subscription.

Retail isn’t free either! Yet it has a free trial!

But yeah, it is what it is.
