I was directed here by a GM since they couldn’t solve the problem.
I wanted to start a guild with my friends and we really liked this name, but apparently the word “viking” triggers the mature language filter when creating a guild. Even the dictionary doesn’t seem to find the word offending in any way. So what am I missing? And can this please be fixed?
Was the GM british?
Why does that matter? I think the GM might’ve been Russian, but I can only base that off the name.
The Viking Inquisition
Seriously though, not sure why viking would be censored since you can choose it as a name ingame.
Oh I see. A joke
I actually thought they had some kind of insight as to why “Viking” is bad haha.
I didn’t expect that.
Oh no wait, that’s the Spanish one.
Dunno, but blizz are extremely touchy with historical people/nations. Literally got a 3 day ban for saying sylvanas has done the same things as a certain historical dictator. I’m guessing certain countries can find it offensive.
Yet they use a cultures or nations stereotypes to make their races. Dwarves with a Scottish accent that like to drink too much for instance.
True, but they don’t directly refer to real life stuff. Look at what vikings were and did for example. Guessing some people from countries like sweden/denmark/norway could find it offensive? I don’t think it should be censored personally. But at the same time I’m from UK and it wouldn’t offend me in the slightest. No idea how they view vikings, might be a touchy subject. Inquisitions are historically based upon torture too.
We’re Danish people creating the guild. I’ve actually never heard anyone in my country take offense to the use of vikings. That said, I found out that the problem is the word “king”. You’re apparently not allowed to use any word ending in “king”, so now we’re “The Vikings Inquisition” lol.
In that case who’s finding the word king offensive enough to have it blocked
exactly my thought as well
If it’s only prevented at the end of words it is probably due to how easy it is make word plays related to other banned words, such as one starting with “f”.
When it comes to viking related guild names you may at least want to be aware of the risk of it attracting people with, let’s call it alt-right views.
They don’t allow titles so I guess that’s why it’s not allowed, I didn’t even think about that. I found this out when I wanted to call a hunter pet Duke.

What do you mean? Like do I even want to know how that can attract people like that?
It’s probably because Blizzard have a game named The Lost Vikings.
Looks like blizzard is led by some weird dictator.
Basically because of a long tradition of distorting history to promote racial supremacy. Viking symbolism was widely used by the political paries in charge in Germany, Denamrk and Norway during 2nd world war. Waffen-SS even had a division called “Wiking” during the second world war. Scandinavian groups have continued to distort viking history and misuse viking symbols since then.
I am not saying you should change the name, or anything like that, but you should at least be aware that the name could have a higher risk of attracting such elements than “normal” names. Hopefully it won’t be an issue at all.
Some people in the USA believe the word viking and anything related to it equals white supremacy. A few days ago the same thing was said about the letter “Ø”.
sadly, our train can only move as fast as our slowest people.
Explain this then.
