The Alliance get to have a bloodelf rogue that supports alliance. So, why can’t the horde get Vanessa Vancleef join horde. Since, she hates the alliance…
I want this character to be relevant and important because she one of the interesting characters in the game like inquisitor Sally mane.
I don’t know…
The “enemy of my enemy” mentality is stupid if you ask me. I certainly wouldn’t want to join up with savages living in mud huts, being overly overaggressive when simply talking to someone (new saurfang cinematic), just because they are enemies of a state, of which government has wronged my father in the past.
This equality “problem” is dividing the community quite often, isn’t it?
Alliance whine how many heroes/territories they lost to horde, horde whines how often their city was raided by alliance…
To your idea:
How about new interesting chars, that actually fit the Horde’s theme and are not there only because alliance got a belf supporter…
To the narrative:
There is absolutely no reason why she should join the horde, not for her and not for us.
To Hordes current problem:
why the heck does horde need another villain in charge? We already have a huge identity problem. One more opportunist with absolutely no affiliation to the faction is the last thing the horde needs right now… as well as for next 5+ expansions…
I think a believable story should not revolve around having symmetry. Gameplay, yes, there should be balance but other than that any symmetry creates a gamey experience.
I don’t know, might have something to do with the fact that if she tried to become a part of the Horde, she would be turned into forsaken or something, together with her defias followers.
And yet is one that has happened multiple times in our real world. The Western Allies allying with the USSR during World War 2? America supplying Iran with military technology during the Persian War? America arming the Taliban against the USSR during the USSR invasion of Afghanistan?
Did all three of those scenario’s come back to bite people in the backside? Yes! Has it stopped it happening? No.
There have been worse reasons…“I will betray my country because I am a Mana-vegan” springs to mind…
I agree, perfect symmetry should not exist, however these forums show what happens when that does not occur.
Also, that argument died when Vol’jin did just because Varian did…
I don’t think Vanessa hates the Alliance quite enough to join the Horde, maybe she does, we have no idea as to how far her vengeful streak goes, but it seems unlikely, to be honest. Going, aheh, Rogue, or neutral, yes, actually joining the Horde, I can’t see it somehow. I don’t think even the Alteraci would go that far.
Last I checked, she was loyal to Varian Wrynn only. Since he’s dead, there are even less ties holding her bound to the Alliance. Maybe babysitting Anduin, but that’s about it.
Indeed it does, but you were the one who brought “The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend” into it. I was just pointing out that said mistakes of judgment are made all the time…
Umm…No? I’m comparing what the Blood Elves did and the reason for the High Elf Exile with going Vegan?
Wait, you don’t think it was about Fel, do you?
The High Elves were exiled because they refused to take sustenance from living creatures, whereas the Blood Elves were willing to. Hence me referring to them as Mana Vegans. Its that whole hypocrisy thing (From my characters point of view) “Oh, so taking mana from them is evil, but you’re happy to take sustenance from animals by killing them and eating them? Why not just be honest about it, like we are?”
I personally think this comparison is not that good, cause the much better reference (if we have to compare RL to WoW) would be time limited Horde+Alliance VS Legion/Old God and not Vanessa joining the Horde…
But still: Are the consequences of those “ventures” the future that you wish for the Horde? Cold War? Letting the old “Ally” fall? Ambushes? And this all inside the faction? Thanks, but thanks no.
Just to Quote Rexxar from 8.1 Datamining:
This. And think about the other side: Why should the Horde accept her?
Hmmm ok I seem to have gotten this wrong then. My knowledge of Bloodelf lore comes mostly from the game where they want to make it quite obvious that the Bloodelves have made some terrible deals.
But I still can’t quite get how you come to the conclusion that the High Elves rejoining the Alliance are unreasonable when they got booted for not wanting to do edgy vampire stuff.
If I got kicked out of the House, I would go to my closest friend first.
How has that anything to do with joining the Enemy? The Alliance and Quel’Thalas were not enemies at that time.
That came later when the Bloodelves joined the Horde, which was the enemy of the Alliance.
You make it sound like the High Elves were like: “YOU DRAIN MAGIC??? THAT’S IT! I JOIN THE ALLIANCE NOW! YOUR MORTAL ENEMIES!”
Heck no. I was saying that ‘The Enemy of my Enemy’ isn’t an unrealistic approach, when we see it happen in our own world. I even said it didn’t work in the three examples I gave, but that people somehow think it works once the common threat is gone, which it invariably does not.
Its a not unreasonable assumption to make, but yeah, the Fel Crystals in Silvermoon were to perform a different function that the Sunwell used to, to keep the magical buildings stable, not only the floating spires we see, but the actual city itself. It was rebuilt overnight by the Magisters via magic, and was originally crafted using magic by Dath’remar Sunstrider and his exiles. Without magic to sustain it, the city would start to crumble and decay. The Fel Crystals were used as a surrogate Sunwell to sustain them.
We do see one Magister magically linking to a Fel Crystal in the Halls of Respite, however it is uncertain whether he is sucking Fel out of it, or channeling his own power -into- it to keep it fuelled. Given the function of the Crystals it would be weird if he was draining from it. Some Blood Elves -did- drain Fel, but these were followers of Kael’thas, and are known as Felblood Elves, which may be where the confusion with normal Blood Elves comes from. Selin Fireheart in Magisters Terrace is probably the most famous example of what they look like.
Don’t get too hung up on the specifics, it was a jovial comment that people have changed sides over more trivial things, than Vanessa’s reasons could be, and making a joke that the High Elves did so because they went Vegan. Them joining the Alliance actually makes perfect sense, I more meant the reasons that they were in a situation where they had to could be seen as a bit trivial, a dietary choice as it were.
