I have often complained that Season is horrendous for gearing up alts and getting started in M+.
But it wasn’t until I decided to try and scrape together the last few parts of a LFR transmog that I had missed from a previous season that I realised what was wrong.
Veteran level gear is almost non-existent.
In previous seasons you could collect it near infinitely, even if you were running low +2-5keys.
Right now the only way to get Veteren gear is to do the 3 weekly quests, and a run in LFR. Well let’s cross LFR off the list because it’s impossible to get any loot from that. And the 3 weekly quests, across 3 characters I have had 6 trinkets, and 2 belts.
Just like in Season 1, Veteren gear has been made near impossible to collect, making LFR set collection feel bad and gearing up in Season 4 is horrendous for that reason.
Season 4 should have been a fun Season where you get to quickly finish off Dragon flight, and what you might have missed along the way. But that’s not what it’s been at all.
There seems to be a big skip from Adventurer level to Champion this season. As can be seen in this Chart. Adventurer level in Heroic Dungeons, M0 and up jumps straight to Champion Gear. See my OP about World Content and LFR.
You do know that you get veteran gear from all the awakened world events now and then piece of champion gear when you finish the quest for them? You get tons of veteran level loot every week if you do these quests.
Not only you get veteran level gear from doing any of those quests, you also get cache giving you another piece of loot.
Yes, I said that in my OP. But that is limited to 3 pieces per week.
Across 3 Characters, I had 5 trinkets and 2 weapons and a few belts. That’s not really a very good source of gear.
In previous seasons you could farm +2-5 keys for Veteran gear, and I am actually almost sure that maybe in Season 2 it was purchasable (even if it were once a week). At least that way you could target the pieces you needed rather than rely on the RNG. x
At the moment it’s almost missing from the loot pool, in comparison to the past.
Remember we’re talking about low ilvl gear here, which helps players get into the game. Not Myth track end game stuff.
Its really down to luck. My fresh evoker got 5 pieces of loot, no rings or trinkets, the first week, then a champion weapon for completing the quest. Plus you also got the world boss of each cycle awekened and drop champion.
I only do m+ on my main and my alts do just world content. They’re all veteran and champion geared now and only couple of has done lfr.
You can also have the absolutely crap luck and just get cloaks or rings. Or just weapons.
That is true tho. I noticed this on the first week when did M0, straight to champion gear which I didn’t mind.
It would be better if normal dropped adventurer, heroic veteran and then starting from M0 champion.
Personally don’t run then with my alts since I’ve been getting more than enough gear from doing the weekly quest. Got tons of alts so only log in once in a while.
Alot of my alts have struggled to get into content this season, because of the huge steps it takes to get into low keys nowadays.
But the point of this post was more about Veteran gear for the Catalyst transmog.
We’re at the end of the expansion, and I was hoping it would be easy to finish off the expansions content easily before the new one comes out. Apparently not. I am actually really surprised at how hard it has become.
I wouldn’t still say it’s alt unfriendly. Since it had been a while, did the weekly quest with one of my low ilvl alts. Went from 448 to 464 in less than hour. Got 7 pieces of loot, one was a duplicate trinket so 6. And that’s just doing the 3 world events and 1 world boss.
Now I can do lfr with that alt and have a chance at more veteran gear and full raid vault if I do 6 bosses. The only downside of lfr is the wait time and the loot roll luck but that’s still one more guaranteed piece of loot per week. And then of course you got the bullions to get the bis raid gear.
Main problem is how bad tunned is the current M0 gear-up for the average playerbase .
The difference in Heroic vs M0-M2 is like 4x amount of health/dmg extra abilities. Not talking about Tyrannical week where bosses have 30% and some bosses have 80 mill health . Someone that wanna start doing M0-M2 with an average gear of 490 is going to break down like majority of M+ i did and seeing their performance .
The whole point of the current state of wow because how upgrades works it feels like you must overgear the encounter rather than challenging.
I know some people start say but i did m5+ with 490 gear . Well the whole point is that i can easilly bring friend-guilds and have a blast since their skill is way higher than someone that just enter m+
The average player hit a wall in trying to gear up not talking about alts. The gearing is tunned so bad with the upgrade system that once you get an item in order to upgrade it you need to do higher difficulty .
I have 12 alt’s and didn’t bother doing a Single M0 just because how bad is tunned .
Previous expansion i could easily do m15-20 with at least 4 alts because the step up system was designed to be as supposed to do .
You get better gear you can do higher difficulties
Now You get better gear …you need to do higher difficulties to upgrade it so you can do those higher difficulties…
I think at least one of the weekly activities should give a token or maybe have some bad luck protection where it won’t give you a slot that you already have at that item level (although this could end up giving you a belt 4 item levels higher when you have a trinket that is 40 item levels lower).
I’m sticking with my 463 gear that I farmed in season 3, I just can’t go through that again. I’m so bored of Superbloom and Researchers et al.
I could maybe drag myself through gearing if the RNG was drastically reduced.
I guess I’m lucky enough that I don’t need higher gear, I only do open world content and 463 gear is perfectly good gear for that.
That’s just another thing we had previously, but seems to have been removed.
What every other Gear level has is a way to infinitely farm it, mostly through spamming Heroics or M+. But for some reason Veteran gear is the outlier… again.
Thats great. But if you want to step your alts up to low M+ keys, there is a huge gap in the gear levels between Adventure and Champion that is bottle necked.
Also Veteran gear unlocks LFR appearances in the Catalyst, which how I came across this gap.
As I said, it seems strange that everything is infinitely farmable, and this 1 stepping stone level of gear is bottle necked.
I think you get veteran gear from Trophy of Strife . There’s a weekly for it and you can farm honor too if you want to do it faster .
This is basically between 1 and 2 pieces guaranteed each week .
