While watching MDI 2019 I’ve noticed most warrior tanks tend to use crit + haste gear. Can you explain why they stack crit, but not vers or mastery. which are supposed to be better stats for prot warrior? Are they maximizing their DPS this way?
It must be related to rage generation: crit+haste is in theory highest, I will explain why.
Probably it is very close anyway between all the abilities… You need to simulate it. And simulate it in many different scenarios. Depending on the scenario, crit+haste, mastery+haste, etc. is best. Remember: you want to minimize your damage taken. Rage generation (Critical strike), Block Chance (mastery), Damage received and healing done (Versatility)… There are different ways to combine stats, azerite traits, talents to minimize damage.
Here is what I think:
Critical strikes give you more rage, from auto attacks at least.
Critical strike % gives you higher Parry % (defensive, good against mobs and bosses and players).
Haste and crit work well together. Haste increases swing speed, giving you more auto attacks that can critical strike. This maximizes your rage gain, and more rage means more Ignore Pain and more Anger Management synergy.
Also, with the way warrior damage works from thunderclap, stacking haste and critical strike and Avatar Azerite traits is a very good way to do well in Mythic+ dungeons, because you can deal a lot of aoe damage. That’s why the aoe damage was nerfed on warrior. I always wanted to do Mastery+Haste for AoE damage, but maybe Crit+Haste is higher, who knows? Sim it.
generating rage via crit auto attacks is ARMS only ^^
krit / haste is the highest dps for a Prot warrior…
most traits / trinkets / enchants are offensiv selected too
I think they are going Crit/Haste because it gives them best output, so any skilled dps won’t steal aggro while doing insane numbers + more tank dps = faster run.
Haste is by far the better of the four secondaries, both offensively and defensively.
And crit is, well… crit.
