Why my maxed out char can't use Chromie time

I just made a fresh alt and chose Cataclysm to use as timewalking and everything is fine: I can go through 1-50 all old zones, can kill boars as 50 on Elwynn without one shotting them. But why my old maxed out chars can’t select any expansion? Why Blizzard doesn’t let old expansions to scale current level? A big shame if it’s gonna remain like this.

Because Chromie time is for levelling new characters.

Not heard of any plans for them to scale the old world for max level characters.

Could’ve been fair and nice if they let old chars to choose which place to lvl too. I would like to play some old dungeons with current scaling.

Once you reach max level you have 1min to hand over all quests and do remaining stuff before you port out to main city.

well u can play bfa leveling thing but u cant play any other with your friends or u are scaled down … that is shame

I was hoping to lvl some older expansions with bit challenging difficulty with new system but guess not gonna happen. The only thing I can do now is to create fresh char and lock him in 49 I guess

I have not fully tested it but it seems if you use Party Sync with your max level character and a low-level character that has Cromie Time your max level character is reduced to level 50 with low ilevel and the content is scaled to level 50 with Cromie Time. Thanks to level scaling a level 10 character in a second account it is the only thing you need to Party Sync solo, and you can do that just with a second account that you don’t event need to pay, a trial account would be enought.

They want you doing SL for 50-60. Always remember that prepatch is essentially the setup to SL. Just a longer setup then normal.

This is not about wanting to level from 50 to 60 outside Shadowlands, this is wanting to complete old content at level 50 (and 60) without killing everything with one hit. If they want people to level from 50 to 60 in Shadowlands they can just block experience to anyone using Chromie Time at level 50 or more.

Isn’t that exactly what the current system does. Blocks you from using it because you are 50 or more.

I mean they should let you use Chromie Time at level 50 or more but disable experience so people could use Chromie Time to do old content and at the same time they won’t gain any experience in the range 50-60. It would be similar to disable experience at level 49.

Think they mean lock experience gain to anyone 50+ but still allow them to use Chromie time for scaled items/mobs/dungeons

It’s just funny because it is doing exactly as described :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

However, it’s meant as a levelling system. It’s not a replay feature.

The only way a max level can lower themselves is with party sync, presuming that still works the same.

Can the higher level still gain xp this way?

I think they should.

I’d go a whole lot further and just have 10-50 scaling in all old zones.

Probably the can, in BFA it was already possible to level up to 120 in any expansion with Party Sync.

Can you not just show up in the zones and carry on questing without Chromie time?

Yes

World Scaling Without Chromie Time

If you choose to level your characters without Chromie Time, the world has the following scaling starting in Shadowlands:

  • Vanilla Zones: 10-30

  • Burning Crusade Zones: 10-30

  • Wrath of the Lich King Zones: 10-30

  • Cataclysm Zones: 30-35

  • Mists of Pandaria Zones: 10-35

  • Warlords of Draenor Zones: 10-40

  • Legion Zones: 10-45

  • Battle for Azeroth Zones: 10-50
