Is there a reason for this? Because i can’t really find any justifications.
because it’s a borrowed power
What the hell are you even talking about?
Evokers can use Flight in all zones with the new dragon riding abilities, including old zones. So I don’t understand why we can’t.
My only guess would be people complaining their precious old mounts would be seen as obsolete?
Well, those people could still use their old mounts if they wanted to
I don’t know what’s the reason honestly
I’m guessing it’s because it would result in glitches with people being able to reach places where they’re not supposed to be.
But what could they possibly reach that they can’t with flying?
Can’t even ride them as ground mounts in BGs. I tried to understand why they are only able to be used in the Dragon Isles, but I can’t for the life of me think of a reason why.
There’s some awesome places in azeroth I’d LOVE to explore with dragonriding, so hopefully one day they will lift the limitation.
Likely because it wasn’t designed for it. Currently get disconnected and character stuck a lot whilst dragonriding, imagine that in the old world where it hasn’t been made in mind.
Well, there could be a lot of issues and glitches. The other world was never designed around dragon riding as we know it in DF.
What i wish instead is that they simply copy pasted the animations onto all other flying mounts so we could use our own for the dragon riding system
Screw dragon isles but let us use dragon as ground mount so I dont have to switch often.
Abilities that go away every xpac. It’s abilities you don’t get simply by leveling. So it’s not power inherent to your character. It’s external power you’re “borrowing.”
Examples:
The atifact power/weapons in legion
The heart of Azeroth in BFA
Covanent abilities in SL
Dragonriding in DF
So if blizz follow the borrowed power rule they have in every expansion so far, dragon riding will become obsolete in 11.0 except for in DF zones.
Because no fun allowed
Someone mentioned (in Reddit I guess) that Elwynn Forrest is 4 times smaller than Azure Span. That makes old zones very small compared to Dragon Isles. So with dragonflying you can reach any zone way faster than before.
Found the Reddit post.

They could make them turn in to normal mounts, when in the old world.
They have the same skeleton as other drake mounts, so it would be possible. That way, at least we could use the new models
No i know what he is referring to, i just don’t see it with dragonriding.
I think it’s just straight up wrong.
Or another good question is Why can’t we use Dragon Riding mounts in conventional ways outside the Dragon Isles?
I think it is more than likely this reason. People still find ways to get to places they shouldn’t without dragonriding. It’s likely they probably have internally experimented with enabling the feature in the old world, but encountered a few unexpected behaviors.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see it enabled in the future, but I’d rather they fix the disconnection issues first.
Because it’s Blizzard. Hello to flying in Quelthalas and Azuremist islands since 2007.
I was flying around Darkshire and Stranglethorn levelling an alt the other week and I kept getting tangled up in trees. I was laughing at the thought of someone trying to use dragonriding in those zones. Just saw this thread so thought I’d pass on the reason I think you can’t do it
