Why not make WoW OFFLINE?

Hello, I was curious as to why WoW retail version is not offline or has an offline mode?

In comparison to classic/vanilla, you do not need other players to play the game and other players do not have a presence in the world at all.

Bots with semi advanced AI can fill the role of dungeons and then raids
Auction house can fluctuate based off algorithms

There will be no indicator you are even offline, and can still pay the £15 per month for updates to the in game store to buy nice items/mounts.

Thanks

Short answer : NO. You want single player experience, there are plenty of options out there that are even better than WoW.

If Blizzard doesn’t let you be offline when playing one of their single-player games, why would they let you be offline in the multi-player ones?

Don’t give them more Ideas for subscription based SP games, the liveservice plague is bad enough these days.

I am curious as to what makes WoW a multiplayer experience, though?

Thanks

i want to hear what you think a multiplayer experience is, first

I wouldn’t mind an offline mode if the game were shutting down and bots could replace players. However, since that’s not the reality we live in, the game is still an online social role-playing game, not a single-player action adventure. So, the real question we should be asking is: why not make WoW more social rather than relying on automated systems that simplify interactions? These systems exist largely because people don’t want to engage with each other, but this is a multiplayer game meant for socializing, cooperation, and community.

Instead of pushing for easier solutions to avoid interaction, we should focus on fostering a more engaging and cooperative environment. Automated tools make it too easy to sidestep the core essence of what makes an MMORPG: human connection. And frankly, it’s becoming a bit tiresome when players avoid interaction under the guise of mental health concerns, claiming they’re too anxious to tell a bunch of pixels that they’re struggling with basic mechanics or too scared to join a Discord call. While mental health is a valid issue, we should be cautious of using it as an excuse to avoid the very thing that makes this genre special—communication and teamwork.

If you’re so mentally fragile that you can’t even get on a call, then perhaps online games aren’t the right space for you, and that should not be allowed to negatively impact others. Multiplayer games are built on communication and collaboration. If you’re unwilling or unable to engage in the basic social interactions these games require—like joining a voice call or coordinating with teammates—then you can’t expect others to carry the burden of your limitations. Online gaming thrives on cooperation, and if you can’t meet those expectations, it’s unfair to drag others down with you.

Make WoW an MMO again.

I use WoW as a role playing platform and I prefer to RP with real people instead of bots. The AI is not smart enough to do that.

Couldn’t say better.

Somehow the game lost the spark of enjoy .

Rp-PvP and anything related to pve is down .

I mean you are correct with an more cooperative environment but what they do ? Increase the anti-social aspect of the game with the solo content .

To many difficulties have destroyed the majority of the guilds since not only they burn their players but their loosing the thrill of progress. Right now as every expansion majority of the top guild and not only are recruiting ~ but majority of the player choose to be casual (including me ).

There is Lfr ~Normal~Heroic~Mythic.

There is no thrill of looking to progress and redo at mythic the boss once you do those 3 difficulties .
Another aspect is to remove a difficulty. Would be nice to have normal as the new Lfr with personal loot (for no drama). And an increase on the amounts of bosses .
So at the end Raider would have more to acomplissh by killing more new bosses other than re-kill the same bosses on different difficulties .

Either way the economy of wow through Ah won’t give the option to play offline ,
The other is that you need group for group activities .

At the end WoW is an MMO and should stay an MMO but as long the new aspect of increasing the solo content would make even harder for new guilds and the already guilds to survive.

The simple solution would be to make the open world and individual characters more dynamic and engaging, transforming the game into a true online RPG rather than reducing reputations to glorified battle passes for cosmetics. Right now, raids, dungeons, and PvP feel more like a lobby-based experience rather than integral parts of a living, breathing world.

It’s ironic that, in their attempt to preserve the traditional MMO feel, they’ve inadvertently turned the game into more of a single-player experience. What’s missing is that deep sense of immersion, where player choices, faction relationships, and world events truly matter and evolve. The open world should feel alive, with your actions shaping your character’s journey and affecting how you interact with the world around you. Rather than leaning into convenience and cosmetics, the game should refocus on its core RPG elements—where decisions have weight, and your connection to the world goes beyond gear and aesthetics.

What you guys are leaving out is that back in vanilla and even WotLK tons of players felt locked out of certain activities and hence came the proliferation of difficulties and the splitting of the community.
WoW promises something to every type of player but offers almost nothing to someone who plays it for one specific activity. There’s nothing to tie all content together because the whole idea is to separate content so people don’t feel forced to run something they might dislike.
There is no obvious solution here and basically anything they do is weighed against how many people will be annoyed by it vs how many new might buy the game.

20 years ago the motto was “make an epic game for possibly a handful of people”, but today it’s “entice as many players as we can, it doesn’t matter if the overall game experience is mediocre”.
I don’t think WoW is a good game but it’s definitely a successful one.

Plenty of ways to play wow offline nowadays. Sure it’s not official way but eh.

Endgame… M+ for example. Its what I do most.

I usually play with 2 buddies that I have in whatsup. And we pug the rest.

But I dont treat the pugs as NPCs, I actually talk to them and many end up in my friends list. Which is 210 people long by now, of which 176 are connected right now.

And I have atleast 10 active whisps the moment I get online.

I also raid in a Friends and Family guild. With 32 people I met in wow, and later personally in gatherings. We have a common Whats-Up channel where we talk. And do a ton of content together.

Is that social enough for you ?

I can tell you the secret : The social aspect of WoW begins with YOU. If you have to talk to people. Engage with people. Be proactive with people… and most importantly, patient and respectful of people… you will have an amazing social aspect in WoW.

And blizz cant force anyone to talk to you, or force you to talk to anyone. All they can do is put 2 people in the same place and hope they get along. The rest is up to you.

It’s funny because the icon is a troll.

The duality of humankind is indeed flabbergasting.

First WoW used to be an actual MMORPG in which you had to socialize and interact with actual players in order to get anywhere. Even for a lot of quests, a group was required. Starting a dungeon run required you to manually form a group and raids took 40 people to complete (not really but you get the point).

Then people started complaining that this game takes too much social skills/commitment, so Blizzard introduced the LFD system, then the LFR system, then a lot of solo content like WQs, now even Delves and follower dungeons. The social part of the game got basically confined into instanced content of higher difficulty, for the most part.

Now we come full circle and people start asking why this game is even online.

You can annoy others and/or be annoyed by others.

I don’t understand why people like you even subscribe to this game?

You don’t raid, you don’t dungeon and you don’t PVP. What do you do when you play this game? just world quests forever?

To be fair quite a lot of people were waiting for wow mobile game for years.

And then they released that failed abomination what was worse then 3/4 of b - rated mobile games.

Wow board games are pretty engaging though

I do miss wow tcg a lot though - it was huge huge mistake on Blizzard part thatcthey discontinued that when they decided to released hearthstone - virtual cards just dont do the trick for me - and unlike back in day i woudl spend ton of $ on cards if they kept releasingcthem - on hearthstone virtuals cards ? Not a single cent
