Why play WoW over other mmorpgs?

This is a genuine question, I really would like to know what is it that you prefer in wow over other mmorpgs?
Is it a mechanic or feature? The artstyle? Or even Nostalgia and memories associated with it? Is it dedication to one game/company? Story?
There are no wrong answers, I just really want to know what makes YOU keep choosing wow over its competition?

tried couple of asian mmos. Wow in comparson is far superior in combat (targeting, trinity) and its way better in storyteling. Also all other mmos are free to play after buying the game which naturaly turns them into HUGE P2W. Also the grind in those games is insane on top of ā€œit can failā€ mechanic during crafting. Also usualy the theme isnt for me.

I like the world of WoW, characters, WoW3 story and elfs, that’s all. While, the rest…meh.
Compared to FFXIV, wow is outdated but the female Bloodelf model are still good.

Literally the same reason! Why I was hyped for BFa as well  but the story has gone to hell and lower imo so the last straw broke for me :frowning:

What about western mmorpgs like SWTOR and ESO? I think there are more that aren’t p2w too.

ESO, is a garbage game in terms of story. The original TES game makes ESO great or good.
I have played ESO for past 4 years. So, one can call me a veteran here…
Let’s say, no one will tell you what ESO is…but the truth is ESO is a PvP game. It’s famous for it, the balance changes are done based on PvP. If you ask why?
Well because…

  1. The game doesn’t have a life like WoW or FFXIV has… It’s just an illusion created with the help of the player base and a huge paywall.
So, if you want to make your character alive or unique then you have to purchase the infamous cash shop (which is expensive).

  2. The gear are generic and same, only the cash shop offer unquie sexy transmog.

  3. Lastly, their balance changes for classes is horrible and they change the system every three months. So, we have to grind gear like a crazy person to be a little competitive in the game.

I mean being a pvp game isn’t bad just because it is a pvp game. What do you mean with the first point though? Doesn’t have a life like FFXIV?

and I mean wow class system is well… Holinka

I played other MMOS like STO, SWTOR etc, yes some of them have good things like rly immersive fully voiced stories and awesome leveling, player housing, good space combat, but not even one of them can compare with the WoW when it comes to how much endgame content WoW receives, what WoW receives in a patch some other get as their expansion. WoW raids are good, mythic + is challenging, and the combat feels fluid in WoW in comparison to the other games.

Bigger game. Better quality. A lot more to do.

That basically sums it up.

This doesn’t mean wow is superior in every single way. It just means, it’s generally superior to the rest.

I think how everything comes in the end to the money, Blizzard obviously invests way more than some other studios in their games.

Well, I dont know how to explain this but compared to wow and FFXIV, I feel like my character is dead or doesn’t exist at all. I can’t explain it well or maybe it’s just me. But it’s underwhelming compared to other mmorpg games. ( Like ESO is still in beta stages or something)

In wow, your character is no body but the cutscene does make your character be there. In FFXIV, you feel your character is alive in that fantasy world and not just a dummy meant to be punched on by others. ( Similarly with wow)

In ESO, if you do want to make your character alive in that world. You have to purchase item in the cash shop like basic emotes that define your character.
Let’s say, the blood elfs have emotes or animation unquie to their race but in ESO player character as nothing to make them unique.
So, once you purchase those item in cash shop. They become alive or unique by 10% compared to wow / FFXIV.

It’s only the PvP, that makes you feel that your character is alive because you are killing players that uses builds based on min-maxing their stats. So, the races are considered important in the PvP world compared to PvE.( But again, this is my opinion and how I feel)

To be honest I never liked FF games much, I tried some FF RPG-s and just couldn’t get into the asian type of the games, they are to grindy for me and I don’t like the way how they portray things and their fleshy animations. So FF MMO doesn’t interest me at all. ESO I haven’t tried but I’m not fan of the Bethesda games either, they are more about the world design than about the storytelling.

Best storylines when it comes to MMOS has SWTOR, but I’m Bioware fan so I might be bit biased about that . The leveling experience in vanilla content of that game where every class has its own story its just amazing, I loved that.

Well, I want to add these points as well.
In ESO, PvP to me is the major selling point to the game.

  • You siege castles, keeps and players
  • You feel the battle between factions not like WoW warmode.
  • You can play, how you want ( Altho, you are tied to classes) and bring out unique builds like Archage (Altho, Archage is superior)
  • Gear or loot are average but for PvP it’s BiS gear.
  • Races are unique but you see the difference only in PvP.
  • If you love the world of TES, then this is your game
Infact, you feel as if, you are one of those hero’s in WoW and earning a victory in a true battle.

While for PvE,

  • Let’s say, it’s boring and repetitive ( yes, they are some variations but it’s nothing like FFxiv and WoW)
  • Non-open world, you can’t even fly or swim in this game and the world is instance-based. Lol!
  • Raids and dungeons, are somewhat ok-ish but not great or will not make you remember for long. ( Very forgettable unlike it’s PvP)
  • balance is done solely for PvP
  • Quest are boring and predictable ( sometimes the side quest are more interesting than wow and FFXIV as to offer, like if those side quest where the MSQ, then it would be great)

Well that doesn’t surprise me because the ESO was essentially made as an PVP game, the PvE is there an afterthought.

Combat balance is better in wow than most others, then pve content is better, and if you happen to do PvP it seems to be more balance and also it has a subscription, has decent art style, and in general is just better game.

One of the most disappointing MMO’s I’ve tried - as long time TES fan I thought I swap it to ESO for good - and it is one of the worst gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I just …

ESO feels like going from single malt whiskey to backstreet booze your neighbour made. Can appeal to some, and can be consumed, but isn’t really comparable.

neat cartoonish style, rp, lack of traits which asian mmons have.

For me mostly the content for casual players. You can farm mogs, pets and mounts in wow. Many other MMORPG don’t have this.

Also the art style and how ā€œfluentā€ wow is and the variety of classes. Like in ff14 you have to click a button to dismount before you can attack a mob. And in eso any caster will feel the same as they all use destruction staff and the staff skills and you only get 5 or so skill slots.

There is also the option to pay for your sub with gold

M+.
If FF14 wasn’t a raid only game I’d be playing it instead.

Because I’ve played it for 9 years and I ain’t starting new in a different game. I also do like the artstyle, and feel of it.

So what I have gathered is that Other MMORPGs do some mechanics MUCH better than wow, but wow in general has everything on a mediocre level, while Raiding and Dungeons are top notch.

SWTOR is my main game cuz Im Star Wars fan. I play WoW with 20 level hunter in 10-19 and 20-29 level bracket just to kill hordes. I sub only from time to time to farm mounts and mogs to my 20 level hunter. Thats it. 120 level WoW is boring.
