Only mmo I-ve played besides wow that I actually enjoyed and dragged me in was The Secret World, but that game does not have a very bright future…
Besides that, I just really like wow-s art style and theme, I find it very interesting, and also the fact that it makes a lot of money works as a sort of security blanket for me, assuring me that the game won-t be dyeing anytime soon, so I-m not afraid of putting time into it.
Its ok but nothing spectacular honestly, nothing which would put me in the awe, its classical theme of orcs vs humans copied all the way since Tolkien with the current addition of over the top elements of some overpowered beings like Sylvanas.
Better play “Knights of the Old Republic” a.k.a. KOTOR and then “Star Wars: The Old Republic” a.k.a. SWTOR. You`ll fell like you are the character cuz you get your own choices during the game.
Whenever i want to play something, but don’t want to play anything in particular, or don’t want to care about the game I play - I play wow.
Also goblins.
Not sure. Other games kinda can’t really “hook me up” so to speak. I tried FFXIV, ESO. Both games are fun. Had a blast there and I cant say anything bad about them(of course within reason. All games have their pros and flaws).
The open world that doesn’t require loading between each individual zone (like Guild Wars 2 or Final Fantasy etc.). I don’t know why, but this is such an important aspect to MMOs for me. When they require you to load into each zone, it really ruins the world for me.
The very easy to read and accurate ingame map (unlike Final Fantasy that drives me insane),
The dozens of lore books and other materials outside of the game that make it a lot easier and enjoyable to deep dive into its lore (I really wish Guild Wars 2 had more books outside of the game, or short stories on their website; deep diving into Guild Wars 2 lore requires you to read through wikipages. Not fun or easy, even though the lore for it is amazing).
Questing is very structured and well written - go from point a to point b, to point c etc. etc. gradually working through an area. It makes them easy to follow, they thoroughly work through a zone helping you really understand the lore of that area without much effort, and are well written. Other MMOs quests seem to be a bit all over the place as they want to reinvent the wheel, or generally just do a poor job at doing them.
Combat is simple, fun and diverse with plenty of classes that’ll fit whatever I have a taste for at that moment. I find it hard to like the classes in other MMOs sometimes. WoW I have no problems.
The customer service is amazing. By far the best out there of any MMO.
WoW is very open to Casual Solo Players and actually provides a solo path with actual progression with content such as Dungeon/Raid Finder, World Quests and now islands and warfronts - they all give reasonably good armour to progress your character. Besides gearing, WoW has a lot of other Solo things to do, like pet battles, countless collectables from numerous things that’ll keep you busy for a long time with plenty of variety to choose from (like old raids and dungeons, achievements and various reputations).
I find myself a bit lost in other MMOs because they don’t feel as accesible for Solo Play or have much variety for Solo play; they all seem to be very dependant on you primarily doing social content. I can play them solo, but progression and choice is very limited and unsatisfactory.
Nearly all NPCs can be attacked; i.e. they are mobs. It makes the world feel a lot more alive without the type of lifeless and static NPCs fixed on a repeat animation like you see in MMOs like Final Fantasy or Black Desert Online.
Very limited invisible Walls. Some MMO’s over use invisible walls, like Final Fantasy. This makes the world feel even more static and lifeless.
Has a good number of music tracks. Too many modern MMO’s I feel lack a diverse range of music tracks. The only other MMO that competes (and beats) WoW in this aspect is Runescape.
That’s because you haven’t played the game or you just rushed through everything. It has more to offer, if your willing.
Well, to explain FFXIV through my view points will be difficult. But I will try…
Ffxiv pro,
Story excellent compared any mmorpg till date.
One character can switch any class on the fly.
You feel reward for the effort you are doing in the game.
Devs are highly motivated and brings out their passion to the game.
Profession are worth in ffxiv. You make your own gear, housing furniture, etc
player housing
They are so many options to get good gear.
Character involvement to the game is Epic. You feel that your character has really accomplished something Great.
Transmog / glamour is far greater than WoW version.
Expansion are worth than WoW expansions
Dungeon, raid or trail are epic.
The loot doesn’t have random titan forging or crap forging in it. It’s worth the investment.
Community are good.

Ffxiv cons
PvP is ok-ish, they are trying to improve it but with tab targeting gameplay it’s difficult for fast pace combat.
Tab targeting can be an issue for some player but once you get use to it. It’s all good. ( Recommended to use a controller)
Slower GCD but it’s become relevant after certain lvl, after that its great. So, new players will dislike this at a first glance.
Instance based games, you can’t freely fly one area to another without a 1 sec loading screen like wow.( But it’s ignored because each area are massive…)
huh ok. I never did bother with the professions, but apart from that I really disagree with pretty much everything here so I guess we just enjoy very different things in games.
I just like WoW. I like its races its world and even its lore even if its messed up F-uppery of a mess.
I have tried lots of mmo’s Everquest 1/2, LOTR, STO, SWTOR GW1/2, TERA DCU, Neverwinter, ESO, RIFT, Warhammer online to name a few but only wow has kept my interest.
Granted i still tip my toes in STO as i am a Trek fan and always will be but other than that i just find other mmo’s boring most of the time and i am really not a fan of asian mmo’s.
I’ve tried several other MMORPG’s over the years, but for some reason I never found them as interesting as WoW. There’s just something about WoW that always keeps pulling me back whenever I think I’ve had enough of it. Maybe it’s partly because of nostalgia - I started to play WoW such a long time ago and it has become like a second home to me.
I’ve been taking longer breaks during the past 3 years, but I always come back at some point. I’m actually on another break yet again (because I’m currently addicted to Assassin’s Creed!). However, I’m sure I will return sooner or later. No doubt about that
