Why upgrade heirlooms?

Before some heirlooms were BiS items untill you twinked at higher levels when epics play their role.

They fixed incendiary ammo as part of the fun detected - fun deleted patch aka 8.1.5

They did? I haven’t seen any patchnotes for this.
My bow still has them on but i honestly haven’t checked if they still proc, now that i’m at legion level the proc isn’t that obvious anymore. I’ll check details tonight.

Items

  • Krom Stoutarm in Ironforge’s Hall of Explorers and Estelle Gendry on Orgrimmar’s main gate now offer new Battle-Hardened Heirloom upgrade tokens that will allow your Heirlooms to scale to level 120.
  • The costs to purchase all Heirloom upgrade tokens with gold have been reduced.

I don’t see any reference to the incendiary ammo in those notes.

Sorry I misunderstood, thought you were talking about the heirlooms.

No fix done, can still be used.
I’ve checked details and they do around 2,5k each proc (lv 107).

Why you level heirlooms:

a) They are equal (if not better) during the early-game compared to pretty much all alternatives.
b) Even if they drop off in value compared to relevant blues later on, you still don’t have to worry about updating your heirloom slot as it’ll go beyond alternatives after a level or two. Some times you just don’t want to have to deal with swapping items around.
c) The XP boost is too good to miss.

Normally I use Heirlooms up to the 90 cap, only upgrading the ones I know I’d use across multiple characters (eg. trinkets, or a certain armour-type if I knew for certain I’d consider levelling X, Y and Z classes that all use the same type).

If not, replace the heirlooms with equivalent pieces and forget about it.

heirlooms are always worth it.

i even leveled my rogue in cloth heirlooms before to 120. Its not so bad :]

losing the big ilvl boost from azerite gear hurts a little and must have been an overthought by blizz, but I just think they didn’t want to touch the heirloom code to boost the 3 pcs to 280 on 111

Well. The EXP is the obvious answer.

But my main question is this. Basically 3/5 exp giving pieces are azerite pieces that we need in this expansion. So what’s even the point of lvling up the heirloom to 120?

why do you need the azerite things?
You will need them when you are 120 but not for leveling. At the beginning you only have 1 anyways, the second you usually get after finishing 1 zones, so around 115-116

I used to heriloom to power level my guardian from 110-120 by doing TW spam. Only took me two days.

So it is worth it.

0-60, YES oh YES
60-90 Gooooooooood
90-100 Alrighty then…
100-110 Meh, if you flush with gold sure, not worth it though u lvl so fast anyway…
110-120 NOPE, get the 5% exp gem with crafted socket ring and don’t even bother. You be 120 fast anyway and save yourself a crap ton of gold, you out gear that crap also the same day you bought it.

It’s not a matter of needing them. It’s the case of having a disadvantage for not having them. and not a 2 ilvl disadvantage. much more.

Tbh upgrade a set to 120 is around 20k, not that much.
The benefit is huge, especially if you want to level without questing by only run Island or Dungeons, not just in term of exp but also by scaling, mitigating a lot the huge dip in power you get around 114 since normally you’re levelling faster than the gear acquiring process.

They ammo scales now with level I believe so at 107 it will be different to 19.
They have also reduced the Elemental Force enchant damage too, although not the proc rate… Strange but true

There were things they kept out of the patch notes preferring to use Twitter to announce 24 hours after they went live.

This subject always makes me giggle cus I recall playing other computer games and having cheat modes. Yunno … endless lives, health packs so that the game is easier. Heirlooms are there really for those that struggle with the game as it was intended to play. I have never seen the point and in all my years of playing never once ever used one.

I have just levelled two characters to 120 without looms and seriously I would be hard pushed to know what they even do let alone upgrade. Like I say just makes me giggle how supposed hardened players have to resort to the ‘cheat mode’ button to get through what is in truth a bonkers easy game anyway.

PS I did 45 levels yesterday on my new char and the day before did 55 levels on a Warlock… just for the fun of it. Real easy at the moment as dungeons pop each and every minute all day long thanks to the new races. It really is that easy. And when you get to BfA dungeons you don’t even need a full team to do stuff. I was finishing dungeons with just me and a tank and no healer. Game gone bonkers… but hey if you need your pointy hats, looms and bikes then go nuts. Truth is its not difficult without… But hey. You should try it sometime. Or you could keep riding the bike with the stabilisers on like so many I see playing the game.

They are mainly not for easy mode. They are for getting through the leveling process faster. After ten years plus, the leveling gets old. You’ll find out.

Fixed for you: Heirlooms are there really for those who can’t be bother to do again the same quest list for the 12th time and have no time to waste in levelling when the game as it was intended to play starts with hitting max level

by not equiping looms you are loosing on 50% of exp - you are lying if you claim its not significant. add to this 5% from gem , 10 % from pot and 10% from invasion (including nice xp for those 4 quests ) ye … loooms are amazing.

my guess is most people compare looms to like full antorus hc/mythic geared toons and that why they see huge power level drops.
