Why was WoD considered a bad expansion?

Please fill me in. I started in shadowlands

It had 3 raids like every expansion, great leveling experience according to rumors… what content was lacking , i keep hearing people say it didnt have content

content pause was too long

we played for 6 or 8 months the same raid content, there was barely any updates

First raid was very quickly irrelevant and wasn’t even dignified with a proper tier, and then we were stuck with the same two raids for a year.

No flying was a big drama, we had never had that since it was introduced.

The reputations were just very uninspired mob grinds with bad rewards.

Only 3 raids was a new experience and many were dissapointed there was no Farahlon or Shattrath raid.

Capitals were uninspired after we were promised Bladespire and Karabor.

Also during the 1 year of no new raid they really only added a daily quests you had to hop to other people’s garrison for to get them all and a selfie camera.

Garrison also felt very isolating and the waiting for missions felt like a phone game. And you actually had to do it for the legendary quest and weekly raid gear…

Mainly because it had a ton of cut content and a lack of things to do. For one there was supposed to be an Ogre continent south of Spires of Arrak but it was scrapped. There was also supposed to be a railroad that connects from Gorgrond to virtually the rest of Draenor, but was also scrapped and was instead instanced in the form of the Grimrail Depot dungeon. Grommash was supposed to be a raid boss in Shattrath City (which was also supposed to be the 2nd-to-last raid) but was also scrapped. The list goes on.
WoD had a ton of potential, some saying it could’ve been on-par with WotLK but in the end Blizzard messed it up bigtime.

I loved it. Levelling, art, music, storytelling… all wonderful to me. Also loved my garrison. The only bad thing for me was the end game was more or less a long rep farm to unlock flying (that they nearly took off us) and it was completely raid focused. We had a big content drought.

WoD content was cut by 70%.
They were planning to release the whole content but suddenly they cut the biggest % of it.

The Garrisons didn’t work, we had patches with little more than a SELFIE cam, there was a huge drought at the end.

That does not mean I didn’t enjoy the expansion. Levelling through the zones was nice, I enjoyed the raids. Although Garrisons failed as player housing they were a nice hub (if you went Alliance).

Lot and lot of cut content and promises not delivered, like chosing the zone where you can place your Garrison.

Simply lack of content.

The leveling experience is the BEST in the game. Remember getting cinematics at the end of a zone for completing it’s story line ?!

Actual treasure and rares dropping cool stuff. Not like now where a rare chest just drops vendorable grey trash.

The raiding experience was cool.
The pvp experience was cool.

Garrisons were half baked. There should have been more than 3 tier. Should have got a new tier with each patch.

The docks and naval missions were dull. Should have at least given us a few scenarios fighting on the high seas.

Story didn’t make sense in the end our enemies became our allies. All forgiven and too fast. I know they wanted to push the legion narrative on us. But still It never felt right being besties with Grommash and the Draenei being cool with it.

Shattrath city raid , it was real it was going to happen. Then got scrapped.
Three zones were cut scrapped and the ogre continent in the south we never got to see.

Proffessions were terrible in WoD. They killed proffessions in a weird way. But It was cool being able to lvl up cooking with 2k gold to max lvl.

Gold wasn’t necessarily seen as a bad thing … but we were given so much of it. That’s why alot of legion mount prices were insane. Blizz had to implement gold sinks.
Same reason we had the wow token. Which also released in WoD.

If you were like me 12 alts , 12 garrisons and treasure finder perks on your followers. I was raking in about 60k-90k every 12-18 hours for simply logging.

Reputations were all grinds and that sucked. They got rid of dailies and turned reps into mob grinds. Or grind mobs from item hand ins.

I think WoD also struggled immensely with not having a very strong gameplay loop.

You logged in, did your mission table, your mine and garden, and then you…logged out?

The feedback Blizzard got in early MoP was that there were too many daily quests and weekly Valor points and bonus rolls and other mandatory to-do stuff. So for WoD Blizzard had dialed all that stuff way back - you hardly had any daily quests in WoD, let alone any worth doing for long.

That’s also why the expansion was quickly attributed the “raid or die” tag, because outside of raiding there really wasn’t anything to do.

And stuff like our Capitals, all got scrapped :frowning:

Gorehowl legendary weapon that was datamined, the list is infinite.

Probably a bad reputation earned early on which they didn’t recover from. I enjoyed it, ngl.

1.) Garrison, the primary feature, was extremely buggy in the start. It was close to unplayable for the first week(s).
2.) They removed flying. Taking away something we always had till then, just to introduce it again after a couple patches in the form of some achievement(s) was not nice.
3.) Selfie cam was a bit of a slap in the face. I don’t need it, I don’t want it, half the content was on digital fire and all we got was a louzy camera.

And on the plus side…I earned enough gold back then to last several expansions. Thanks to the afk-gold-farmer AKA the Mission Table.

This Mad season video covers why it was considered bad.

I really like the fact there’s no flying first patch.

Look at TWW the amount of druid armies just flying around mining and herbing and 5 man cloth farming in Hollowfall. The first day.

Those toons aren’t there to experience the new lore , new experiences or see what the expansion has to offer.

They are simply to exploit very high prices early on. Farm farm farm , until the gold dries out,

Then you’re left with an expansion where mats are worthless for a whole two years.

I can’t link screenshots , but I have a picture of a 30 man druid bot fishing army in the middle of nowhere in Hollowfall.

  1. They attempted to do the unforgivable crime of removing flying forever in future content.

  2. The content and story was rushed so we ended up not getting the middle of the story and instead we got the intro and the finale without anything in the middle.

  3. Garrisons were bad and we somehow ended up getting variations of them for years after

That is a botting problem, not a flying problem. Farmbots have been a plague since before flying was introduced in the game.

WoD was big disappointed me and hated it so much after WoD released. Since-

  • No flying took too longer waited
  • LFR mog was trash like style from dungeons. No get real mog from normal or dont same last MoP’s LFR.
(But later Legion got back mog for LFR)
  • Zones look much empty and flat.
  • Was stucked in Garrison with spams missions.
  • Other dont much do nothing.
  • Later patch new zone Tanaan Jungle. Was nightmare when still no flying.

Shadowlands is same bad expansion for me. But WoD is more worst than SL.

i enjoyed WoD
wish we had soloQ pvp in WoD would of made it better
