Myself. My friends play with me, not with my characters.
Apart from that, why would anyone take anything non-meta? Easy. Because at the key levels people pug, it literally doesn’t matter. You take a good player, whatever they’re playing.
I like its aesthetics and class fantasy as a supporter for others with utility totems and enjoy the fact that it’s a class with a ranged and melee DD plus a healer spec.
(pulls up dark hood)
(yells UNLIMITTEEDDD POWER during chain lightning spam)
(puts dark hood away)
Well pretty much because of that, but you can do that as resto as well LUL
A healing spec, and the option of going ranged OR melee.
People who play “the meta” are people who switch the characters they play every patch. Some (a lot I could imagine) like to stick to a class because it has a fun playstyle, a cool fantasy, or the right combination of roles. Or maybe because they bonded with their character over many years.
I play Shaman because all Shaman specs suits my personal playstyle and enjoyment, and because it’s core design/spells appeals to me.
So while Mage or Hunter might be preferred at high keys, I would personally NEVER… EVER… force myself to play a class I don’t enjoy, when I have more fun with another class.
If that means people don’t want me in their run, so be it. I would be better off not joining since they clearly have a different mindset than me when it comes to “how to play WoW”, and I probably dodged a bullet not joining them.
What it comes down to really… Is do you play WoW for YOUR sake? In which case, choose what you enjoy. Or do you play for OTHER peoples sake? In which, choose what “you are told to play”.
It is a game after all. And the point of WoW is to have fun.
Shaman is extremely fun and has quite a high skill cap. In PvP Shaman is a proactive class. You need to use a lot of your utility before things happen.
simple dont apply groups just make own key no 1 want take u ofc play guild and so on who need friend heve guild full mebers hehe
rember your key your rules declined who ever you like
Because rsham is all people are going to be wanting next patch and knowing how niche healer meta in m+ is, probably the only healer that’s going to enjoy the invites.
When SL released, I was so glad I decided to run my Shaman first and my hunter later. Ghostwolf helped my sanity in the Maw.
I’ve always liked elemental shaman, ever since vanilla. I see no point in stopping now.
These are the reasons I pick a shaman.
I used to play elemental shaman, I still like it, but I started playing different specs for a while. I also changed my resto shaman to a holy / disc priest.
What mainly started to annoy my was the somewhat slow playtstyle, I wanted some faster gameplay. Usually in M+ or something, these long casts, and when I’m done casting my 1st spell, the others had already done an x amount of damage.
Then I used to like stacking EQs, but since it’s now all about tanks moving their mob groups around, that’s also not a thing.
That said, still like to play the spec from time to time, but in Legion for me I liked it the most.
Another thing that got me to stop playing certain specs was legendaries. On my server, they are just crazy expensive, so I went to play some specs that were fixes on 1 legendary (no matter the covenant). On my server for a R4 I’d pay like 100K+ average, and 150-200k+ for a R6. To me that’s crazy, and I don’t have that amount of gold to go shopping like it’s nothing (next to the fact I really hate doing Torghast now, the less time I need to spend there, the better, I hate it ).
So in 9.0 / 9.0.5 I made some slot choices on my elemental / resto shaman that 9.1 / 9.1.5. made me need to change it due to the raid slots that got added. That annoyed me so much, I stopped playing them. In 9.1.5 I basically focussed on my holy priest, finished the dungeon achievement and waited for 9.2 .
But what I like most about shamans, is their whole background with spirits and elements. Spell effects are also the best in the game, imo from all specs.
We live in a time where numbers take the limelight, but fantasy and aesthetics are overlooked.
You’d play a shaman over a mage or hunter for the sheer fact of aesthetics and fantasy.
Most people I’d imagine choose what they find appealing.
Being a master of the elements sounds cool as hell for me compared to being a mage who are known as scholars or intellectuals in RPGs usually, which neither really appeal to me.
