Why Zul-[insert name]?

Can someone versed in the culture of the troll races please explain to me why were so many of the important troll cities are having the word “Zul” as part of their name.
There is also that guy called Prophet Zul.
What is the name “Zul” to the trolls and they put it in so many places?

The “great” part seems more likely to me.

By the now non-canon RPG the prefix “Zul’” when applied to a person’s name or title is a term meaning “voodoo master” in jungle troll culture.

It is speculated that there are other meanings for the word.

  • Zul may mean “Great”, hence “Zul’jin” would mean “Great Chief” and “Zul’Gurub” would mean “Great Gurub” or “Great City of the Gurubashi”.
  • Zul may also be a troll god, hinted by Altar of Zul in the Hinterlands, though it could also mean “Altar of The Great” following the above statement.

What sure is: Zul’ is a Zandali prefix often found in names of trolls, troll cities, or troll ruins.

EDIT: Nalarian beat me with it

It’s something to do with greatness/power/voodoo prowess, often used to signify importance. But in a specifically trollish way, not general terms.

The suffix 'jin is used to denote mastery or seniority in a general sense, troll generals or teachers often have 'jin as their suffix. To have Zul before or as your name however specifically means paragon of trollishness as far as I understand it, or you can understand the word to mean something like “sacred” hence why it is attached to troll capitols.

So Zul is a word for “great”.
I would to think it could had been some some special god or troll of the past.

Dammit, that means that there is little chance of a reference to “There is no Dana, only Zuul” or some future raid named Zul-Zul

Sadly
But just to be sure Bjornson, when someone asks you if you’re a god you say yes

Its more nuanced than just great. It means greatness/special in relation to troll culture specifically. So it carries connotations of stuff like spiritual meaning , voodoo etc.

Note we’ve only seen two trolls with it in their name, Zul who is a prophet of immense power with a very deep knowledge of Voodoo and Loa and Zul’jin, who is one of if not the most revered troll heroes who was also supposed to be a master of Voodoo.

Which one of you sick bastards reserved ZulTrump name?
