Hello. I was just wondering why does wildfire give mages crit when they activate combustion. The 6% damage on ignite is somewhat nice, the 2% crit to party members is whatever, but the 8% crit to yourself part is litterally dead. It doesn’t even proc from SKB combusts. This talent could give us 50% crit and it would still be a dead talent and I don’t see why the crit can’t be replaced with another stat buff, or just completely removed and maybe we get a 2% more damage on ignite. I’m surprised nobody is talking about this, 3/4 of that talent’s description legit doesn’t do anything.
Crit in combustion gives half its value as mastery, so it is a little extra ignite. It is a dumb way of doing it and people do moan a bit but the extra mastery is why it doesn’t get more attention.
Critical strike value turns into mastery (or atleast 50% of it), while as crit % stat does not.
Zenar is right, Combustion only converts 50% of your crit stat into mastery, not crit %.
So when I activate Combustion I get an extra 366 mastery, which is basically half my crit stat of 723, the extra crit % from WIldfire is never factored in.
Which means that the self crit buff from Wildfire is effectively worthless, Blizzard dropped the ball again. Although it’s probably still always worth taking Wildfire for the Ignite % buff, 1/3 of the talent doesn’t actually do anything.
The only use I can see for Wildfire’s buff is if your Combustion gets dispelled, as the Wildfire buff itself is not a magical effect and is not tied to Combustion being removed.
Its a remnant from BFA Wilfire. They just slapped it in without any brainwork.
Even BFA Wildfire gave you crit stat, god knows why they’ve gone for % in the talent tree.
Because design is weak. Not brave. Just weak. And scared.
It’s probably just convenient to put crit % instead of raw stat, as raw stat on a talent is gonna be worse and worse as the expansion goes on.
Regardless, I don’t really think mages in pvp care too much about getting 8% crit if their combustion gets dispelled, and they’d rather have it do something different. I just wish this gets addressed before DF launch, as it’s really just a poor designed talent right now.
