Will 11.2 bring FPS Improvements for older CPUs?

Running the game atm on an i5-6600k so Im obviously not running the best system here. But I was wondering a few things:

  • will render scaling be fixed after all?
  • will the new spell density setting result in better/equal/worse fps? Im currently running “essential”
  • will there be any other changes to potentially enhance older system performances?

If not, I guess I will have to get a 9800x3d, any recommendations for minimum storage/RAM/GPU/Motherboard? I wanna buy a whole computer and not build myself, just trying to make sure avoiding any mistakes.

Thanks all.

It’s been like a year now since they broke it… so… don’t expect anything.

That won’t have an effect on CPU performance, particles are on the GPU.

Unless they move stuff to other CPU threads, aka more than one for lua and stuff… i don’t think so.
Performance in raids and in general with many players/npcs is bad even on high-end CPUs.

If you can afford it, why would you torture yourself with a 6600K? Seriously :see_no_evil: :sob:

First of, if you buy prebuilt, then don’t get scammed.
Where do you live? Maybe someone here can link you a competent shop with good value prebuilts.

Storage: would recommend at least 1TB better 2TB if you play other modern AAA games that can have several hundreds of GB install size these days.

RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz

GPU: depends on your target resolution and framerate, also what other games you play.
Would recommend a GPU with at least 12GB VRAM though. Don’t fall into the 8GB trap.
If you are ok with AMD, then a 9060 XT 16GB would be the best value GPU atm for 1440P.
Otherwise a Nvidia 4060 TI or better, 4070S, 5070.

many thanks, i have a very legitimate shop in Germany, so I did that research up front. Im kinda delaying buying a new PC now for quite some years but I guess its time. But since Im only playing WOW and like once a year a round of Overwatch, I couldnt bring myself to spend some money on it yet.

I’m from Germany as well.
You could go for something like this:
https://www.dubaro.de/Gaming-PCs/Gaming-PC-Ryzen-7-7800X3D-mit-RTX5070::8499.html?configuratorActive=true
but change the CPU to the 9800X3D.
The 5070 is fine for all current gen games.
Both will last for many WoW expansions.

I would assume you don’t have a 1440P high refreshrate display yet, so i would strongly recommend getting one with the new system to make full use of it.

Like this one for example:

https://www.coolblue.de/produkt/950457/lg-ultragear-27gs85q-b.html?cmt=c_p,r_idealo.de&utm_source=idealo.de&utm_medium=pricecomparison&utm_content=2292

or go for ultrawide if you like.

It’s loooong overdue

thank you so, guess you can read people’s minds - i had EXACTLY this computer from Dubaro in mind, even with the upgrade to 9800x3d  I currently still have an Acer XB270H A, is that still the “state of the art” or would an upgrade be worth it? You see, Im not knowledgable in these things, thanks for your advice.

Assuming you mean monitor from 2014 - no. Looking at the specs it was pretty poor (imo) even in 2014 unless you just wanted bigger screen with fast response refresh rates.

  • TN-panel - poor color and viewing angles
  • 27" and 1920x1080: relatively big screen for low resolution, 27" is usually paired with 1440p screen or sometimes even 4k depending on tastes

I suspect pretty much any 100+ MHz IPS or even VA panel monitor would be better. Not to mention OLED monitors. What is best for you depends on your priorities, other uses and budget.

For basic upgrade I’d look for either 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p with IPS panel and fast refresh rate. These are dime a dozen. If you are not using monitor arm with it pay some attention to the stand which comes with the monitor so it has decent adjustements. Sometimes even more expensive monitors have ridiculously bad stands (I am looking at you Samsung).

As Grelier already pointed out, your Monitor should be replaced too.

I agree on 27" being too big for a measly 1080P resolution.
The pixels are just too noticeable because of the low PPI (pixels per inch).

1440P should be the target resolution for a RTX 5070, on a 27" display optimally.

Image quality will be ALOT better on modern displays and higher resolutions.

Also, an inportant fact, using DLSS at 1080P is much worse than using DLSS at 1440 or even 4K.
The less pixels the upscaler has to work with, the more artifacts and worse image quality.

The new DLSS 4 transformer model has improved that by alot but still i would recommend using mostly DLSS Quality even at 1440P (depending on the game you can go lower).
WoW does not support DLSS though, this is just for modern games and especially Unreal Engine 5 games that need upscalers to run at a high framerate.
