Will blizzard ban addons in Classic too?

Having lost interest in retail with the announcement of the addon ban, I’m wondering if it is safe to play classic? Or will Classic suffer an addon ban too in the future?

What addon ban?

Do you have an answer to my question? Will Blizzard remove addons in classic too?

What do you mean “too”? Where are you getting this information of addons getting banned in the first place?

You must have a comprehension issue if you think they’re banning addons…

Blizzard wants that addon players and non-addon players have the exact same information on the screen.

"Blizzard’s making a huge World of Warcraft change: combat add-ons will be eliminated, with new features coming to replace some of their functions "

Article in PCGamer.

If that one interview with basically one mention about it is enough to make you lose interest in the game then I suggest you find another game.

First of all, this won’t happen for at least another 2 expansions because Blizzard will need to have a perfectly working ui to replace these addons and they are nowhere near accomplishing this.
And IF they want to go ahead with this it means we will get less complicated fights instead because currently bosses are being designed with addons and weakauras in mind, which would no longer be needed.

What they are talking about is having the same info we get from addons be available from the base ui instead, meaning you won’t lose anything, you just won’t need an addon anymore.

Second of all, if and when this happens, yes that would probably mean it’s for classic as well, it wouldn’t make sense for them to allow these addons in Classic and not in retail especially since the #nochanges stuff went out the window a long time ago.

Blizzard never ban addons… People use addons very years ago.

But now new. Blizzard wanted more own “addons”

So you quoted that and came to the conclusion they’re banning addons…? :man_facepalming:

Let me break it down easy for you to understand;

Addons are going no where, but they want to do away with automated combat addons/functions that tell you what to do… like Weak Auras automatically marking or assigning groups to deal with a boss’s ability, like they did away with an addon that literally marked out areas on the terrain.

Thanks for your reply.

You are right it is probably best for me to do something else than WOW and hopefully I can come back if Blizzard change their mind. Hiding in classic will not save because they would probably come classic addons too.

Making fights easy is not a solution. It doesn’t make the base UI better. I rather wipe all day with my addon UI than kill mythic gallywix with Blizzard UI. I really tried to play with base UI today for 2 hours but I just can’t do it. It feels like Im fightning the UI more than the mobs. Especially annoying is the first levels when you cant even change the chat. :rage:

Your question is flawed.

It has in it the premise that blizzard will remove addons from retail.

That is false, as they said that they wanna keep all kind of addons.

They just want to limit the computational power of some addons. Things like certain weak auras that auto assign marks on adds and list what player is gonna interrupt what automatically, or tells you in what marker to run to.

If you are worried that you will not be able to change the color of the resource bar on your WA, then you can rest easy.

I don’t think Blzzard will ban addons because they know that the players will revolt, includin the 2 clow who was with Hazzikostas in the interview.

In the last few years, Blizzard tried to implement addon features into their core game, that addons already in use for decades, made by persons in a cave, from scraps (nice cross-reference, huh? ), and they failed to reprlace those addons, so you shouldn’t worry, even if there will be attemps, they will not get away with this.

I don’t entirely follow the logic.
Do you want WoW to be a whack-a-mole?

  • You have a rotation but you have to stare at your action bars to respond to glowing effects.
  • You don’t really need to know boss fights because add-ons are telling you what to do, it’s just your job to follow those instructions quick quick quick.

The only people this affects are

  • add-on developers (as a hobby, portfolio item or revenue)
  • the absolute hardcore who are winning mythic raids with the base UI today

A full add-on ban might at first glance be scary, but it can also force fixing solutions. I personally despise the old AH. And then, some stuff the add-ons are doing is too much, such as market automation.

I also understand visual reworks like GW2UI or Bagnon.

They said they want to make game less dependent on add-ons ,not about banning the add-ons
