Will Ryzen 7 7700X + RTX 4060 (8 GB) handle WoW retail at high/ultra in raids?

I’m building a PC mostly for World of Warcraft (95% of my gaming). Specs:

•	Ryzen 7 7700X
•	MSI Ventus RTX 4060 (8 GB VRAM)

I know 8 GB VRAM is a bit low for modern titles, but will this combo handle retail WoW (raids, dense encounters) on high/ultra at 1440p (or lower)?

What do you use, and what FPS do you get in raids/large-scale content?

Thanks in advance!

First important question, what is your budget?

If your budget allows it, get a X3D Ryzen for WoW and gaming in general, it will give about a 30% FPS boost over a non X3D CPU.

My recommendation for best value would be the 7800X3D.

The 4060 is ok for 1440P in WoW but not a good value GPU.

Total budget around €1450, cpu €300.
My build looks as follows;

NZXT H5 Flow RGB (2023) white | AMD Ryzen 7 7700X | NZXT N7 B850 AM5 white | Kraken AIO 240 Elite white | MSI Ventus GTX 4060 8GB white | Vengeance RGB 32GB RAM white | 1TB SSD & PSU NZXT C850

That has to be an overpriced pre-built right?
Noone would build something like that… a last gen CPU that isn’t even a X3D and the infamous 4060

Again, i strongly recommend to get the 7800X3D with your budget, it’s a world of difference in raid performance in WoW.

The CPU ist by far the most important component for high FPS in WoW.
The engine is running mostly singlethreaded code (LUA code, addons, ui etc), this is why the extra cache is important.

Replacing overpriced AIO with solid air cooler, eg. Thermalright Phantom Spirit, Peerless Assassin 140 etc. will save about 180-200 euros you could put towards better CPU or GPU.

Make sure RAM is least 6000 MT with decent timings, eg. 30-32.

Is the GPU used? Buying RTX 4060 8 GB as a new would not make sense when you can get faster GPUs for same price, eg. Radeon RX9060XT or from nvidia either 5060 or 5060 ti (non-ti is slower than radeon, but has obviously nvidia exclusive stuff, ti version is about same speed but more expensive least here).

It’s due to new NZXT products and the AIO which I like for the aesthetics (clean white build). Good call on the extra cache GPU, will take this one into consideration. Do you think the GPU RTX 4060 8GB VRAM will not cause any problem in combination with this CPU?

There is no problem with any combination of any GPU and CPU, just a bigger or smaller bottleneck, but some component will always limit, that’s the nature of the beat

And like i said, WoW NEEDS a fast CPU with lots of cache if you want ~60+ FPS in raids.
The 4060 is ok for WoW but not good value at all. If you want to play modern games the 8GB already make it obsolete.

Where do you live? Maybe we can find some good deals for you.

Appreciate it

I’m in the Netherlands. I’m mostly building this PC for WoW (90 % of gaming), I have an Xbox for other games so I don’t need overkill — I just want WoW on high with silky-smooth FPS.

So I’m torn between sticking with the 7700X or going for a 7800X3D if the price makes sense as you said, and also wondering if the RTX 4060 8 GB will do fine (€260) or if I can find something in the same price class (ideally white) that gives a bit more headroom.

Look at the CPU benchmark at the bottom.
Even my 5800X3D is already 26% faster than the 7700X.
So the 7800X3D will be about 50+% faster.
Don’t look at the FPS numbers they are not representative of raid performancce, just look at the % difference when you mouseover the bars.

Even the 7600X3D is alot better.

The white MSI 4060 is only 260€ in NL? It’s 340€ in Germany
Cheapest 4060 8GB is 299€ here.

The AMD alternative would be the 8GB 9060 XT, which is about 20% faster than the 4060.
The white ones here are around 290€

PS: what is your current system? CPU and GPU?

Yes it’s on the website ‘Bol’ (Dutch Amazon) discounted for short term, consider the purchase right?

I am currently selling my old system to a friend (Ryzen 5600x + GTX 1660 6GB) which also runs pretty decent already!

It’s a good price, yes.

If you think a 5600X runs decent in raids (especially 30man hc), then you will have your mind blown if you get the 7800X3D

My advice: ask chatgpt.

Does ChatGPT raid?

It knows everything and more about WoW, including in-depth hardware requirements, every expansion, every single element ever known about the game and stuff you never knew existed.

Cool, we should just shutdown the forums then :see_no_evil:

Should be asking can my eyes cope with max spell effects and is an epileptic fit on the cards.

From a technical advice point of view - yes.
