Hi everyone,
I’m not super clued up on my lore but in previous expansions the horde and alliances have always been rivals or even at war. will this ever return? or are we at the point of peace between the two kingdoms for the foreseeable future.
I think with all the abilities to play with the other faction i can’t see another war happening which is a shame as i thought it played a big part of the better stories in the game.
would love to hear your opinions on this!

It could happen in the next 3 expansions, Anduin could backstab Thrall with his mighty sword in a surprise betrayal when he went to “pack some supplies”.
But later it is revealed to be a duplicated tentacle agent of C’thun moving in name of Yogg-Saron and some other Old Gods sparking some big war between the remnants of the Alliance and the combined Proto-Horde who launched a mass invasion into Stormwind and other alliance lands to take revenge for Thrall.
*Please note this is not official lore and just a random whim of the Shath’Yar.

Technically whatever peace the two factions have is always pretty strained. From a PvE standpoint I do not think they will go back to it.
That is what PvP showcases, or should atleast, that small skirmishes still happen between the factions.
A war is less likely to happen, unless Blizzard grows a pair and either gets Tyrande back on the path of vengeance, or they have Turalyon start a crusade against the Horde.
Both of them can work and have the potential for some nice story developement.
Dont see why not, it just needs a good solid reason and not just a simple “ere, did you look at my bird?” kind of scenario.

I’d like to see them try. No really, now that the bs has been concluded, no mind control stuff, I’d really like to see them write a honest to God conflict story with no multidimensional entities or whatever involved. Just a simple, basic conflict. But I’m afraid that might be outside the current writing team’s ability. However since Metzen’s back, who knows.

didn’t they imply something like this happening in the upcoming saga, i might be wrong tho
Not for a while. Kinda sad considering the game is called World of Warcraft and not World of EveryoneGettingAlongCraft.
But then again, after BFA and the events that happened in it, another faction conflict expansion wouldn’t be exactly welcomed, although Erevien would probs disagree.

“War within” - aside from the obvious war in underground Azeroth - would rather imply an intra-factional conflict rather than inter-factional.
For example, Anduin has been gone for too long and maybe Turalion/Alleria might be thinking he’s a bit too soft for hard times Or maybe Thrall’s return is not met with approval from everyone in the Horde. Maybe parts of the young council have fears over the Warchief concept gaining too much popularity again? There are possibilities, although I think the Alliance conflict between the old hardliner Turalion and the young diplomat Anduin is more likely. We will see…
I doubt we will see much, if any, faction-conflict in the next upcoming expansions, considering we have gotten the general layout revealed, to the point that we have cross-faction guilds, which would clash with faction-war, albeit only on a narrative level.
Considering how we will see dwarven factions for both horde and alliance, unification of elves coming up, and then a showdown vs titans, I think a faction conflict is unlikely. A more interesting narrative plot point would be able to join different sides, like in the Light vs Void conflict, or choosing to side with the Titans etc. This would most likely be unlikely as well, considering they would have to somehow integrate that allegiance into the raid encounters, but it would be interesting.
My best guess would be that AFTER the World Soul Saga ends, they will have tied up all the narrative plot points that they have been working on. If they then either announce a WoW 2 or a new “saga”, this is when faction conflict will be revisited on a more story-driven scale.
I still think Jaina is a dread lord and will cause some problems
Sadly, most likely not.
But if it goes one like it is, Azeroth will fully covered in water from all the tears of the crying charakters… so if we are lucky we will all die soon to no longer have to listen to the bad story

First of all we are in dire need of new faces. Especially in the Horde. With the current characters there’s no room for conflict. You got the super-inter-faction-buddy-club characters so I doubt we’ll be seeing them fight. In fact if Anduin exposes his rear, most of the Horde leadership will go at war with each other over who gets to kiss it first.

Hope Horde vs Alliance returns, I miss the old days.

If they ever bring this theme back, I hope it’s different to “Horde leader started acting bonkers because they flirt with some dark power”.
Instead they could use the perfectly original scenario of “alliance leader started acting bonkers because they flirt with some bright power”…
Joking aside, feels a little bit out of context now with the overarching saga being set in motion.
From what they’ve announced so far, sounds like there’s going to be some big Silvermoon/ north east Lordaeron revamp in Midnight. That could serve as an interesting plot for tension among humans and undead, though not a full on faction war.
I genuinely hope the faction war remains a thing of the past. It has done harm to not just the narrative, but the game itself.
And for those who argue “but that’s not Warcraft”, have you played Warcraft 3? The very game that set the foundations for this one?

The faction conflicts have been contrived for a decade or so. We repeatedly band together against apocalyptic threats, and yet when we’ve achieved a narrow victory some pointy-ear has to remind everyone about some tree in the Ashenvale. Cooperation makes a thousand times more sense than war.

Indeed, sad, and boring to be honest, that kills the variety of the stories, now every event end with everybody joining in a big teletubby group hug, no matter of their past. And when they use this formula for the 1000th times it becames unbearably boring.

I hope not.
But they probably will at some point.
Kind of weird that there’s been a major war against some enemy in every expansion, and yet people are still complaining that there’s ‘no war’ in World of Warcraft.
