Will The Retribution Paladin's aoe be better within patch 8.1?

So the question is will The Retribution Paladin have better area of effect within patch 8.1 as of right now it’s very diffecult to get into the mythic + as one.

I haven’t looked at the 8.1 changes for ret (if there even are any changes at all) but i doubt a simple buff to AoE damage will fix anything. Retribution currently has FUNDAMENTAL problems, until Blizzard does a full revamp of the spec it’s still going to feel like dog crap.

But it’s just i’ve been playing The Retribution Paladin ever since Wrath. And i don’t wanna stop now.

I don’t want to stop too but ret is so bad currently, i can’t bring myself to do anything on this char. Used to be my favorite class and spec…

Then what should i instead play?

I was wondering the same and honestly, i have no idea. My game time expires in 7 days and i’m most likely not renewing it. It’s so bad that i even thought about giving real life a chance when my game time expires, can you imagine?

Divine storm is getting buffed by a bit and we’re gonna get 2 azerite traits that help with aoe but that’s pretty much it.

We’re still gonna be really bad for aoe, we’re just gonna suck a little less.

Ret doesn’t need a revamp, does however need the return of a certain few artifact traits imo.

Divine Storm
Deals (92.8% 111.4% Attack Power) Holy damage
(That’s +20%)

Consecration
Deals (29.4% 35% Attack Power) Holy damage over 6 seconds
(That’s +19%)

Azerite trait: Empyrean Power
Your attacks have a chance to make your next Divine Storm free and deal ~2000 additional damage.
(No idea of the PPM)

Azerite trait: Light’s Decree
Spending Holy Power during Avenging Wrath causes you to explode with Holy light for ~900 damage per Holy Power spent to nearby enemies. Avenging Wrath’s duration is increased by 5 sec.

Oh well that sounds lovelly so concetration in mythic + then?

Hmm i don’t think so, wake of ashes just too guuud

Have anyone tested it out yet?

Changes are good, but wake of ashes will be still mandatory i think, not only becouse of its dmg but, becouse of how luxury its filling the gaps (+stun slow component) concentration doesnt do any of those thinks. I realy dont get it how can some game designer to decide so badly and make the core ability as talent “option”, its ridicolous and design of all other talents in row like this is just a waste of time and money in development.

Just doing a 1 to 1 comparison

Consecration:

  • deals 1.75% AP DPS (35% / 20)
  • generate 0.05 HP/S
  • no utility
  • ennemies can leave the AoE and avoid some of its damage
  • works 360°

Wake of Ashes

  • deals 4.67% AP DPS (210% / 45)
  • generate 0.11 HP/S
  • slow speed by 50% for 5s
  • apply all its effects and damage instantly
  • works in a cone shape
  • Wake of Ashes is just too good compared to Consecration.
They would need to double Consecration damage and add a slow effect while in the AoE for a choice to exists.

Blizzard mind does not work that way, they will ruin the WOA instead of make Consecration good ability.

Then why not just make The Consetration a base line?

That would be a good way to improve Retribution AoE and open room for a new talent.

I would prefer WoA as baseline becouse of its natural power. talents should to be designed as good advantage not a powercore of the spec (Crusade in Legion). So i prefer consentration and divine judgmenet both as talents with the third talent option which will slightly change the WoA, like 15sec shorter cd but bit less dmg or whatever… Divine judgement is realy not bad idea as priority target dps boost, Consentration for aoe heavy situation and improved woa for two target cleave situations. But for years of development of these Pandaria talent threes Blizz did to much mistakes for most specs in the game, they realy should to reconsider this change, becouse of they are simply not able to deliver a product which doesnt feels as fake mask of viable and non-viable builds. Also lvling brings much less fun with the current system, i am just saying i am realy not a fan of lvling thousands of alts

Well we all do prefer WOA baseline, but fun is not allowed here in those dark days

With the patch 8.1 the Pal Ret will be less funny because of the modification of Divine Purpose (+30% dmg -> +20% dmg), actually Inquisition was slightly better than DP but you’ll have to play with Inquisition at the next patch if you want to stay as up as possible in term of damage. No buff dmg at all for the next patch.

It’s hard to stay at the top dmg in raid with the pal ret of BFA.
