Will this work as a workaround for npc scan overlay?

i am posting here as a question about an add on that has 20,608,776 downloads, has only had 30 views, and no replies in the ui thread. i wonder do people even know that section even exists! im sure more than 30~ people would like a npc-scan overlay add on that works.

this add on has not been updated, and we dont know if its even possible (even though the author said he is working on in, but this has been ongoing since BfA launch) due to changes made in BfA.

so, first off, is there a similar add on to the overlay?

second, (as i dont think there is), is there a way to put pins on your map like you can on wowhead. i think i have seen this done in the past, with some add on: waypoints? tomtom? im not sure.

while this wont show paths, it would at least show confirmed spawn areas.
but if this is possible, is it possible to make these permanent, and not “despawn” when you log out.

I’m using Silverdragon with outdated addons enabled and it seems to work fine, It put little skulls on my map of where rares are and even pops up on my screen when I walk past a rare, Has a few bugs though. Like one in 20 rares won’t show up with their icon but my screen will still flash and say “beware”

ty. will give it a try. even though npc scan still works (npc scan overlay is the broken one), i have wondered sometimes about how “awake” npc scan is. like literally just now, i went into the cave in blasted lands where " Mojo the Twisted" spawns. and the i only became aware of him cause i was standing right next to him mining a thorium node. the add on only then became alerted me as i moused over him.

if i have to mouse over the rares to see them, then that is close to useless, BUT i have been rare hunting throughout kalimdor, and i have found dozens of rares just flying around, so i shouldn’t need to mouse over them i think. i just am not sure what makes npc scan pop an alert :frowning:

Silverdragon is really good shows every rare in everyzone even double for darkshore and highlands when warfronts up . Not sure if you want more than rares though.

rares will do. i’ve been going around kalimdor, and started in eastern kingdoms to try get the transmog i’m missing from them. while i will pay up to 100~ gold for missing mogs, some greens are going for several thousands, and if its blues they’d prob cost even more!

As for the current patch (8.0.1) there aren’t vignettes in the pre-Pandaria zones, so this addon won’t localize older rare NPC or treasures/events.

so that wont help for vanilla tbc or wotlk rares. (dont even remember if cata had rares!)

Yes it had those world boss type mobs that would drop recipes for

Rhinestone glasses and Top hat

aye there were some world bosses, rather than rares, but now i think of my time waiting for seahorse “world boss”, i remember there were some other rares in that zone like the captain on the ships over the water, and one called lady lala or something. as there was no “bloody rare” type achiev i had forgot about them.
