Will war mode work in SL?

There is something fundamental with PvP being less appealing to Alliance players.

My theory is that:

  • Most new players are drawn to the Alliance
  • Most streamers and content creators play Alliance
  • Alliance PvP racials are subpar compared to Horde

This creates a hella big issue because from a certain perspective, horde players are aware of this and take advantage of it.

But there is a shift happening, a lot of Horde PvP’ers, myself included have begun to PvP on Alliance, because of shorter queue times. That itself is another issue when you have to chose:

  • Winning nearly every battleground as horde but losing as Alliance
  • Sitting 10+ min queue as horde vs instant queue pops as Alliance

In Classic? Horde willingly sits 1-1½ hours in queue for AV, because every game is a instant win.

There is just something about that Alliance mentality when they get in render distance of horde players.

  • They come to a full stop
  • They stare at you like a deer in headlights
  • They start to backpaddle as you move closer
  • Bizzare panicky ability spam as they are destroyed

Where as horde is just:

  • Charge and kill

It makes no sense.

Story-wise, only YOU (player), Tyrande and the Ebon Blade entered Shadowlands, and only YOU out of everyone got out of MAW into Oribos.

Story-wise, the entire expansion is a single-player experience - but then again so was Warlords of Draenor and yet you had a faction war there anyways. It’s pretty absurd.

I’ve had enough of forced PvP for a lifetime just trying to do Death Knight Order Hall campaign on my alliance DK. Half the quests are in sovereign horde territory (red zones). Heck I had to resurrect Nazgrim at 4 AM in the morning since it’s a PRIME HORDE DUELING GROUND and you’re not instanced away… even at 4am there were still like 7 ppl around - luckily only 1 wasn’t AFK and he run to the opposite direction so he didn’t see me.

Alliance are traditionally PvE players, most of them plays with Warmode OFF so I don’t envy anyone trying to level up in shared covenant zones at the same time, talking to the same NPCs. That’s just SUICIDE, unless all 4 covenant zones and bastion are blue (sanctuary) zones.
I’m STUBBORN and I like leveling with access to my PvP abilities (because some of them are very useful for outdoor questing), even if it means being slaughtered constantly (except on Hunter because hunter PvP abilities are all pretty much only ever useful for PvP).

It should be that each layer of Warmode is filled 50% of each faction. The problem with that is that they won’t all be in the same zone so people would still think it’s unfair.

This is impossible due to cross-server grouping, any balance will automatically be destroyed when a few people start inviting more people.

They could be sent to the invitees layer not the inviters.

Are covenants hubs sanctuaries ?

with 4 different invitee layers, each of who will potentially have nothing to pvp with, thus why they join that group?

I am a PvE:er at heart, I tend to stay as far away as I can from PvP. But with that said, i still use wm ON, on my best geared toons, why? Because 9/10 times there are no allies in my shard/phase but that 10th time where there are allies literary everywhere, it’s a freaking nightmare. They gank you left and right, they corpsecamp you, they go 5vs1, they wait till you pull something and they kill you and then they kill you some more. Yes I know us horde do the very same and yes I know i can turn wm OFF. But like I said… 9/10 times its all good. =)

----> I just hope they remove any and all “pve” rewards for having wm ON. <-----

The Denizens shall appreciate the deaths of us mortals to fuel their Anima needs.

My main concern with warmode is am I going to get prioritised and placed with people from my own realm, cause thats hardly the case as of right now even though RP shards were meant to be separate to regular realm shards etc.

That’s one of my problems with the “Race War” narrative…

The Alliance has no history of slave labor. But then enter a new world and have no issues whatsoever enslaving the local population.
The Horde are honorable warriors, who fight for freedom and justice! They free these poor oppressed natives!

Then you go to the Alliance side of the island and the Horde are kidnapping pandaren children to hold as hostages, to force the natives to fall in line!
The Alliance heroes storm the enemy base! Freeing the innocent children from captivity!

Both sides are portrayed as “heroes” fighting an “evil” enemy.

Where are our own factions psychopaths?
Where are the evil slavers when I play on the Alliance?
Where are the child-kidnapping monsters when I play on the Horde?

It would be better storytelling if you saw the good and bad of your faction.
And I don’t just mean you see the cartoon villainy of the Forsaken.
And even better storytelling if you were given some agency on what you think of your faction.
Instead of being a mindless, race-hating murderhobo, all too happy to go about your business of slaughtering the other guys as long as they are of the “wrong race”.

If I was given the option, my character would refuse to fight in anymore “Race Wars”. Rather focus on adventuring or saving the world I guess.

I thought warmode now would be covenant vs covenant!! It makes no sense that we are fighting each other in the same covenant since we are guests in a world with problems that aren’t ours. so im gonna be questing and i have to worry being attacked in my safe area ?! really?!

There aren’t even enough players to make that balance, the WM bonus is a testament to that as is the Battle for Nazjatar event that had to be removed from most shards.

Lol what? That’s not what World PvP is about.

You want equal teams go to Battlegrounds.
World PvP is not meant to be fair.
Anything and everything goes.

It doesn’t make sense now that we’re at peace.

But it’s not supposed to. It’s staying.

I have seen this said so many times and it baffles me every time. Do you people not play with wmode on? Pvp absolutely happens in areas you can fly. Even in areas where there is no incentive to do pvp such as Stranglethorn and Duskwood it is very often the case that you find ppl to pvp with.

What exactly? That world PvP dies down when final path finder goes live?

You disagree with that? Like… really?

No one said it doesn’t. Of course it happens in areas you can fly, that’s… pretty much everywhere? It still happens less in comparison to areas where you cannot fly.

What are you talking about, those two zones are and always have been Gank hotspots.

Dude, you’re not making any sense o_O

Can already see it, “Let’s all gang up on Night fae, stupid hippies”
