As Punyelf said you not comparing apples with apples. WoW is a subscription game. Even though you can have a “sub” for some of the games you mentioned but those are optional subs that give you a set of items like gems etc. to us as in game currencies, but they are remain optional whereas wow’s sub is not. Doubt Blizzard would want to waiver that income stream unless it is subsidized by MS.
They would have to adopt a similar model to others whereby they have a very extensive shop with or without an optional sub for some extra goodies.
Certainly still a profitable way to go but then given you get access to Classic as well with the sub, I’m not sure what they’d do with that.
I could never see games like WoW and FF, who both have profitable stores and subs, ever go onto the MS game pass. Not unless they receive some sort of subsidy or kickback to compensate for the revenue loss.
An alternative may be to hop on as a marketing stunt to see if they can canvass new players but the time would be limited to something in line of 60 or 90 days.
ESO, SWTOR and GW2 all do very well without mandatory subscriptions. Two have optional subscriptions and all have large shops - far larger than WoW or FF. The shops rake in a lot of money.
Only ESO is on game pass there and that just let’s you play the base game I think.
It would be like having access to playing WoW “vanilla” zones and needing to pay a sub to access the rest of the expansions, bar TWW, or buy them individually.
Look if they do go for it then it will be a big score for a lot of players. Save on a 6moths to year sub. Especially since game pass is way cheaper for 12 months than the wow sub. Game pass is also adjusted to each countries currency and for me this is a huge saving. Onto of that I have access to way more games to play. A big plus.
I still doubt we will ever see Wow there in the near future.
I agree that I don’t think they will go onto game pass any time soon, I just think that if they did drop the subscription model they wouldn’t have any struggle as they can adopt the same model as other games.
