I saw the post about alot of people don’t actually play other games , they just play WoW. So you guys might not be familiar , but games have gone up in price over the past 5 years.
Shadowlands epic editions was $79.99
Dragonflight epic edition was $89.99
Gaming companies are talking about games should be $100
Do you think we will see that jump for midnite ? Will the 3 day early access make a return ?
Some guildies suggested maybe epic edition owners get to access housing early as a pre-order bonus.
Next thing , do you guys think we will see WoW go to gamepass ? Like instead of paying a wow sub , we are just funnelled into gamepass sub ? Then you guys do actually have access to 100 games. Overwatch , Diablo 3 +4 and now Starcraft 2 are on Gamepass. WoW is Blizz’s last game to go on there.
Lastly , WoW on console , will it happen this decade do you think ?

Possibility does exist.
I would say, yes, most likely.
Maybe after The Last Titan. It’s unclear what they mean with “World Soul sagas are paving foundation for next 20 years of WoW”.
I think it’s unlikely for WoW to go onto a game pass. It’s got it’s own subscription system and they are unlikely to want to lose that income. They most likely moved everything suitable into the game pass already.
Personally I have zero interest in a game pass but that’s just me. I’m certainly not paying twice.
As for a console version, you can play with a controller to a certain extent but on PC. I have no idea how a console import would work considering how many addons most of us use. They aren’t even necessarily combat addons but those would obviously also have a big impact.
Ofc it probably comes down to what makes them money at the end of they day, so who knows what the future holds.

You can play avowed with gamepass sub , you can play all the new Cods on gamepass
Same with the new doom game , fable etc
Eso is on gamepass.
I don’t think it’s a crazy jump to think WoW could aswel. You wouldn’t pay twice. You would just pay one gamepass sub.
Only issues is what would happen to the token system , doubt xbox would want players paying gamepass with gold ?
You got to remember now World of Warcraft and all Blizz/Activision Ips are Xbox games and Xbox Ips
You’re not just a WoW player anymore , you are an Xbox gamer.
You are comparing differnet types of games now. There are lots of games on the gamepass, no one is disputing that.
But WoW has it’s own subscription and the income that provides would be gone.

Microsoft have said it themselves it won’t happen nor will the gamepass have anything to do with WoW.

Cod is the best selling game every year
They put that on Gamepass last year.
You didn’t have to pay up £70 for it. Just sub to gamepass. They could have made more money not including Call of Duty Black ops 6.
Eso is a mmo just like wow , same genre. On Gamepass.
Eso was buy-to-play from the start. With an OPTIONAL subscription.
Completely different setup than WoW. I guess they saw how many people actually used the optional subscription and found it would be better served under the gamepass banner. With WoW this wouldn’t be make any financial sense unless subscriptions drop to an alarming low number.
CoD is not an MMORPG with a subscription. This is not a comparison to WoW.
ESO does not require a sub to play it. FFXIV for example on PS still requires a sub to play but is not on any pass system as far as I’m aware. So not the same either.
Indeed, who knows if that will change in the future, but from my point of view the sheer number of addons we use would make it undesirable. Even the cloud based gaming services only offer limited addons.

WoW isn’t doing great numbers wise however.
there was no growth during Dragonflight. Dragonflight did succeed to retain players who didn’t quit in Shadowlands.
The war within certinaly has quieten down in player activity.
Sure it’s the end of a season and yes a new season is out this week so numbers will rise.
But you got to think longterm.
WoW playerbase is old , the average wow player is 35 years old according to a 2023 article.
less than 3% of players were under 18.
So yeah you got to think okay how do we increase subs and potentiel box sales buyers + microtransactions.
I’m not saying wow is dying , I’m saying wow isn’t growing
That all depends on context.
It’s making a profit. Many games would kill for WoW’s current numbers.
Yes and no. Semi-longterm.
WoW is already 20 years old after all.

Minecraft will be 14 this year. It’s doing gangbusters.
Yeah I know how to do maths. WoW still has 6+ over it.
Huge difference however. Player numbers , retention , growth and money making.
Roblox came out in 2006 and it’s up there with Fortnite and Minecraft.
the old game theory doesn’t work out.
With a sub?
The old FREE game doesn’t, indeed.
When a sub is involved it’s a different story.

Nope there is no sub for Minecraft.

All popular title games are quite expensive nowadays, even at base edition. Yes, I think it will go up, as everything will.
Housing is coming in the pre-patch, any early access would only be a few days or a week and not really worth it. The 3 day/beta access is likely to return as I believe it was quite popular.
It’s certainly possible. As for game pass, I doubt it.

I don’t know a single player in wow who pays a full price monthly sub. They get 6 month sub - 1 year or just pays in tokens.
I don’t know anyone who is paying 12.99 euros a month every month.
If you watch the interview with bobby Kotick last week. They haven’t increased the price sub to 25 euros were it should be. Because a cheaper sub is a gateway to them buying more cash shop items.
People who can’t afford to pay 6 month/12 month subs at once and don’t want to farm gold. There’s plenty of them.
I’m not sure what you think this proves, people pay for that sub, whether it’s monthly, or using one of the bulk buy deals that give a small discount.
They are still paying a sub.

And you know… what… maybe 0.2% of WoW’s playerbase?
And 6 month or 1 year subs are STILL subs.
It’s less, sure, but really not that much less. And they’re also locked in for the long term.
Tokens are even weirder you’d use that as an example since Blizzard makes MORE on those than on a regular sub.
The real price of a sub should be 25 euros monthly. due to inflation since 05 They just haven’t increased it like other products.
At 25euros would you see 4 million subs ?
