As title says, looking to switch from windows to Linux - Is wow compatible, and will i get hammered with the Warden cheat system?? Also how easy is it to get the game running?
a) no, though there are ways to run in WoW.
b) unlikely but Blizzard is never going to confirm or deny anything unless WoW ever gets official support for Linux (very unlikely to happen)
c) varies from trivial to very difficult. If you need to ask you are probably not ready for it.
I made a reply few days ago in somewhat related topic:
So, you are criticising someone who wants to get off the Windows treadmill?? - well done, lad
Ignore the troll.
You can install WoW very easily on Linux environments.
Install Lutris or use Steam with Proton
Use Lutris to install Battle.net, then install WoW
On Steam: Add Battle.net as non-Steam game, set Proton compatibility
Keep GPU drivers + Wine/Proton updated
Launch WoW from Battle.net like normal
Thanks - im thinking of a dual boot system, would that affect anything??
I think there should be no problem .steam os is build on Linux iirc and people play wow on steam deck without any problem .
I’ve dual booted for years without issues (both scenarios where win + linux are on the same drive and separate drives for each OS respectively).
The only issue that can happen from time to time (after windows updates) is that windows likes to mess with the boot loader (grub / systemd) and remove the boot entry for Linux (pretty straightforward to fix).
I can’t comment on how often this happens on Win 11, as I am yet to install Linux besides a Win 11 (need to buy a new drive as I want to keep each OS on its own).
Installing WoW is easy peasy if you do it via adding battle net as an app to Steam.
There is even a Linux version of Curse Forge, so you can maintain any addons just as you would on windows.
