Hey everyone,
Since the Dragonflight rework, Windwalker Monk has felt somewhat “okay-ish,” but I want to highlight some serious issues with its main damage toolkit that hold it back.
- Fists of Fury: This ability often cancels randomly, missing at least three damage ticks crucial for ramping up its output.
- Spinning Crane Kick: It can get randomly canceled if your character performs a melee attack in between (even with a Dance of Chi-Ji proc).
- Flurry Strikes: Reaching 220 energy spent to trigger this in a new pack is inconsistent—it often won’t cast at all. Additionally, if your target dies during Flurry, you won’t get the Against the Odds buff due to its inability to maintain its flow.
- Flurry Strikes and Xuen: Damage from Flurry Strikes doesn’t contribute to Xuen’s 4-second damage window, which hurts its effectiveness in ramping up damage.
The changes to Blackout Kick are understandable, but making Tiger Palm out-damage a main spender feels wrong (especially since this required Blackout Kick buffs across two talent nodes).
Yes, Windwalker can compete with other DPS classes in runs—but only if none of these bugs disrupt your performance.
And then there’s the tier set—it feels completely nonsensical to me. Meanwhile, Windwalker desperately needs a re-evaluation of the nerfs from early Pre-Season 1 TWW. Right now, we’re severely lacking in AoE, which is supposed to be our defining strength. While we excel in single-target scenarios, we can’t keep up with certain specs in AoE situations, which limits our utility and appeal.
Don’t get me wrong—Windwalker has the potential to shine again. Maybe not as the meta (and I honestly hope we don’t return to being the meta pick), but we should at least be competitive with other top-tier classes.
Here’s to hoping the future brings brighter changes than the frustrating state we’re dealing with now.
