Windwalker *needs tuning*

Alright.

For the last couple of months, me and the fellas from peakofserenity and others have tried our best to work with what we got, and give as much feedback as we could. Before today, the end-gear profile for windwalker simmed 214k. With every optimal enchant, every optimal talent to the best of our knowledge, every optimal trinket, and the best APL we could produce with all of the above. This 214k made windwalker the lowest simming spec for at least two months in a row, with a 6k difference to the next lowest spec, shadow priest. That’s a difference of about 2.8% to the second place, a 10% difference with the average, and a 15% difference to the top simming spec. This unfortunate state has been very noticeable during early progress as well, despite not having the end-game gear that these sims are based on yet. Picking random logs as anecdotal evidence, we have windwalker parsing purple/orange and getting equaled or beaten by players parsing blue or even green.

I can’t say it enough: we have been ringing this bell for several weeks in every way we have available. We’ve provided these same numbers many times over on the ptr forum posts. Even though it’s only week 2, we’re already seeing a massive decline in the windwalker population from people losing faith, getting benched, or asked to reroll.

All of this is to say: it is an unimaginable, soulcrushing disappointment to finally see some class tuning and then to have windwalker not even mentioned. We’ve been reassuring ourselves that, when the rwf is over, we’ll finally get some proper tuning. We were already joking around that “yes of course we’ll be buffed, but will it be enough?” After all, in order to be merely average, we’d need an aura buff large enough to result in approx 10% sim dps.

But we got nothing.
This is a genuine question, Blizzard: do you remember that this specialization exists? Do you remember that we can’t swap to another, stronger spec? Do you remember that, besides abhorrent tuning, we’re also dealing with terrible gameplay issues like position-locking FLS, poorly tuned talents, disjointed visual design, and I can keep going.
I just want some answers, please. What’s the plan. What’s happening.

I’m totally agree with the message

Parsing orange, just to get beaten by a blue parse, asked to reroll because even our raid buff is not worth to have ww in a group, getting declined from +10 keys with 2k score because im ww monk. It really feels like blizzard is planning to just delete this spec next expansion

Hey, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here. I am raiding mythic and right now on Smolderon. If you guys at Blizzard are not sure what to do with the new set, atleast give Windwalker a Aura buff so the specc doesn’t feel like a hinderence to mythic progression. A rogue from my guild got a Rank 1 parse and so did I, the only difference is that his parse is 100k DPS higher which is just an absurd margin. For the love of god just slap a Aura buff on Windwalker so it feels better atleast numberwise.

Its just sad we dropped this low…

it just makes me feel bad. In VoTI and Aberrus, WW was not good but it was OK, I could have lived with that and my niche. Right now, I am getting shredded on Single target fights which I am generally used to, but aoe fight are not much better. no matter what I do and what build I go for, I cannot beat the other strong melee specs now. I thought WW always at least had the aoe niche but RN it feels like we really excel at nothing and we are not even average at this point. Buffs this patch and every patch are just a bandaid. We need a proper rework because this is just demotivating. I have spent a lot of time and effort gearing my WW up because I thought changes are coming after RWF is over but today’s post has just been a punch in the gut for me…

Sadly, I have to agree with the message. The worst simming spec in the game, bad gameplay, old animations, no tuning, bad mastery and I can keep going…

Surely, a Retribution like lookover must be in the works? After all, Monk is the only class with a sole damage spec that has yet to be touched upon.

But well, I feel the need to echo OP’s sentiment. Any sort of communication regarding the spec would be welcome - even a 6.2-style “we’d rather you didn’t play demo” cackle would be something imo.

Best visual would have been a complete removal.

It just got a 6% dmg buff so all is fine.

Thank you so much for addressing all the problems that WW monks currently do have. I hope that this will get some resonance and our voice can get straight to the high floors. Currently the WW monk population is the lowest among melee (and im not counting THREE SPEC classes such as rouge) and among every DPS class in general (since monk do have only one DPS spec).

I mean, the WW class if fine until higher content, but i’m paying to play a game and my money should be worth as much as people that plays other classes. And currently i feel underwhelmed by the amount of care that devs (if any present) give to this class: 0. I demand tuning because of the sole fact that i pay 13 euro at a month to play this game.

Basically they butchered entirely the monk as a DPS class, cutting the WW outside any content that matters and that’s inconceivable since i’m paying a subscription and i DEMAND that the class that i and thousands more plays. I dont care about playing other classes, i want to get better and enjoy the WW playstile and want to stick with that. If the WW monk will not get addressed in the near future i’ll talk with my money without subbing again, as most of us should do.

It’s not even a 6% damage buff, it’s 6% ability damage buff, Not sure how much that would be in total, I’m guessing somewhere between 3 and 4%.

I believe the math was done and it was calculated to be somewhere between a 4.2% and 4.6% overall damage buff.

The aura buff ends up being just over 5% due to the undocumented Xuen buff to accompany it, afaik.

I need to reroll to BM hunter to be able to keep my spot in my m+ and mythic raid team. They would still take me into the fights… but I know that I am literally a liability for them. Especially when you have to push on key moments. Moments where a certain amount of DPS is a requirement. The windwalker in its current stage can’t bring it. And it makes me sad. I really like the feeling of the spec. It almost feels like you are prepared for everything, but at the same time, you don’t master anything. I probably will still play the windwalker, but as soon as my hunter is capped and en-par with loot… there is no reason to not switch. How can it be justified that a 2 button rotation with occasional 2 additional buttons and damage CDs humiliates the windwalker where I have 38 key-bindings. We don’t have a rotation, it’s a prio-list on what deals the most dmg/chi. So you need to constantly evaluate what to press, ideally you play ww alot to just build intuition. After 3 seasons I have that back again. I have the feeling that can get the same on the BM in 1 season. I don’t want to bash in to BM hunter too much, just recognized the biggest contrast there. Personally I’d enjoy a game where there are easy2play specs doing good damage and hard2play specs potentially doing the highest damage but on poor performance lack in damage.

But it was and will never be like this… partially because balancing is a hard thing to do.
I think it is safe to say that it’s time to rework the spec.
