Winter Veil shows how broken mob scaling is

Today I decided to decorate garrisons of lowbie characters and immediately noticed the difference compared to my two Alliance and Horde maxxed mains.

My lowbie (60 characters) have no trouble with soloing Grumpus, and they can two- or three-shot the Grumplings in no time.

My two maxxed toons take about a minute to kill a grumpling, and since one of them isn’t geared, sometimes I even die. Soloing Grumpus is impossible.

I really don’t get it why maxxed level toons are artificially dumbed down to feel so weak.

I also hate scaling, the same trash mobs to level with you and become insanely difficult if you are not hardcore geared. You should get stronger when you gain a level and not weaker unless you upgrade most of your gear which won’t happen because you would gain more levels before you manage to upgrade and have to start from the beginning.
Why was scaling introduced - so that casuals can’t be bothered to find a zone appropriate for their level and instead can go anywhere (with some limitations if Cnromie time is not enabled).
This is one of the reasons Classic is great.

Did the BE starter quests yesterday for some white armour. Got hit for 190 points moonfire by an Arcane Wraith out in Eversong which effectively instakilled me with the DoT attached. At level 8, 190 points is a lot if not all your health.

same reason why level 10 mages are the most powerful characters in the game.

I had this as well on my Ceelinda when I leveled her. Didn’t know what the actual hell happened and… bam. It was a magic debuff that was insanely overtuned to increase magic dmg taken.

Left a report, but it seems it wasn’t really cared about… best you can do is cleanse it with anything if you have the chance.

Just skip that questline on alts unless you have some reliable oneshot.

And mistweavers too! :yum:

You have time to kill them before they ever cast their spell, so you’re good unless you pull several enemies. Still, it does show how ludicrous the automated scaling is. Tis a blight, imo.

Of course it turns out doing those quests was a waste anyway as I have all the pieces on my original BE paladin.

Thanks for this. I won’t bother with the expac atm. I have so much left to collect from the older ones and don’t need it be harder.

hello! i usually farm the frostfire ridge quests every year but somehow im having issues finishing the quests on my own on chars below lvl 60, the scaling is a mess. is there some way around this, do i need to talk to chromie to tw leveling? ty in advance

The scaling should work in your favour, so there should not be any need to enable Chromie Time unless your chars are below level 40.

Level 10-20 twinks are god of the game. You feel power while playing that char.

Scaling broke this game. Cant feel progression of power while leveling at all.

Currently ilevel360.
Grumplings are still horrible to beat.

Yeah, lvl 60 to 70 feels horrible for that reason. With every lvl you grow weaker instead of stronger… and in dungeons the lvl 60-64 alts deal way more dmg than the 68-70 characters. I understand it’s the lack of secondary stats, but still… it feels so wrong.

Same goes for mob scaling in general… mobs growing contiuously stronger with your character instead of you getting able to easily kill them.
“Chromie time” needs a rework, if not enabled all mobs should go back to their “original” expansion hp instead of getting scaled up to the same lvl.
