Wired network issue. Stuck at 10mbps

Hey, having a small issue with my network. Ever since I bought this PC (used), I have been stuck at 10 MBPS when using ethernet cable. I have tryed 2-3 different cables that came my network supplier had in their pack. But still stuck at 10mbps. I also tryed going into ethernet settings and change my speed from 100mpbs to 1000mbps. Still having trouble…

I have thought about getting myself one of those wireless USB adapters, you guys think that will work or is the problem something to do with the PC?
PC SPECS:
CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz
Motherboard: Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON
Graphics Card: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
Ram: 16 GB DDR4 RAM
Harddrive: 1TB SSD

Network issue may not come only from your computer, but can come from outside of your computer.

i don’t get much of your information on your situation but here a list that actually impact my network on my network issue on my situation :

  • Computer performance : :white_check_mark:
  • My computer only connetced to the network box : :x:
  • Optic fiber : :x:
  • Do neighborhood of the city do use telecommuting to work : :white_check_mark:
  • Is your average jobs in your town is dependant of internet : :white_check_mark:
  • Is there any construction site on the town : :x:
  • Is the weather stormy : :x:

With all these condition, since the Covid-19 my connection as been heavely impacted.
It’s sometime not about the box network or the computer but outside too.

Might be worth looking at the properties of the network adaptor for this setting.

Edit: sounds like you have already.

You guys thinking maybe wireless can solve the problem? Like a wireless USB adapter?

Wireless is useless for gaming.

Have you made sure the cables are cat6?

Do you also have internet speed that’s supposed to give you more than 10 mbps?

Not always, is the PC a prebought one by any chance? sometimes the bundled software can mess with various things that should just work sometimes.

I have 100 mbps on my internet speed, I checked the speed on my laptop.

And I did not buy the pc prebought, i got it used.

Same still applies, is it a branded one (like Dell for example) that would have bundled in extra software by them? Dell have an application called Smartbyte which is known to sometimes cause slowness in internet speeds for example.

When i bought it they sayd it was built by a proffessional, all I know is the specs that I linked you, I also tryed updating my drivers but nothing seems to work

Which one is it (although the M should be big in both cases)?
MB ; Mega Byte
Mb ; Mega Bit

And, how do you test it?
Updated the driver yet?
Other machines on the same network?

For what? Cat5e can handle up to 1 Gb, more than enough for most home use-cases.

This really makes little sense. You can play WoW on a 2.5 MB line (20 Mbit) and prob even less as long as your ping us reliable.

If you have issues ingame I wouldn’t look past it that you have different issues than the maximum bandwith of your connection.

I think I figured out the problem, but not the solution. I ran a test with a intel driver app i downloaded, and this came up:

This test relies on a response from a gateway, DNS, DHCP, or WINS server and no such response was received. Any such server for this connection may be unavailable or misconfigured.

Try a DNS flush;

ipconfig /flushdns” in Command Prompt.

Wow mate!! Thanks alot, that actually worked <3 I now have 122 MBps download speed

Job done then!

NVM lol, i was mistaken when i started a download on a game i already started. Any more tips?

Log into the router and see what the setting is there.

Also you need to know the network connection speed and the download test speed.

Make sure you know the Difference between MB/s and Mb/s, one is 8 times lower than the other.

If it’s a second hand PC and it’s never worked properly for broadband speed then my guess is that either Widows is gubbed and needs reinstalling (you should always wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows if you buy a second hand computer) or it’s a hardware issue and you need a new ethernet connector. An internal network card is best but USB is fine and is much easier to install.
