i have world mode pvp off; im getting killed by allience players on the pre-patch event.
Are they getting mind controlled by a boss like hakkar and hitting you?
keep getting killed on more than one area.
If you volunteer information longer than a tweet people may be able to get to the bottom of it. Until then…

If you enter any horde area and get hit by pvp npc, anyone can smash you

since players in this website are new i have to explain something
we have something name pvp mode . (player vs player option)
this pvp mode can be turn on or turn off even if your warmode is off.
(years years ago we had this instead of warmode)
so there is two reasons for this.
first you turned your pvp mode on in warmode off without knowing it or you went in some places where is pvp no matter wm on or off

Right click on your portrait → Player vs Player → Disable. Having wm off doesn’t mean much if you are pvp flagged, anyone can enable it themselves and attack you.

Nope, there is an exploit going on.
You have to be in a city to turn on WM, this is happening during combat at events.
Not an exploit to be pvp enabled in WM off. Most common reason is getting too close or flying into an opposite faction base.
It will drop off after five minutes without any pvp combat or taking a flightpath.

I’ve had it twice, it just switches on then boom, killed by a DH while in the middle of fighting a boss or doing an objective. Something isn’t right. After the second time I reported it because what’s happening, shouldn’t be happening.

Flying over the Azure Span PvP WQ area enables PvP also.

There’s still PvP AREAS that’ll flag you to be PvP Enabled until you leave the area, and if it was in an enemy faction area you’ll be PvP Enabled for 5 minutes after you leave… even with WM OFF, you’ll see the timer on your character frame portrait.
Yes, all of those exist. None of them exist standing at Ragnaros in Searing Gorge while engaged in combat which is what OP is talking about.
Getting flagged while in combat at a PvE objective in a PvE zone shouldn’t happen. And it’s a bit sus there’s players ready to immediately kill those flagged, not by AoE but by direct melee attack.

Apparently, but I can’t confirm, one player flags themself, stands in the middle of the boss and some spells or attacks can then flag the attacker which is not supposed to happen in Retail since it was changed years ago.
The exceptions being those listed above.
This didn’t happen in the last few zerg events so there’s definitely an exploit.

hmm .i have done the event few times on my main and alt and i have not seen such a thing .could be a bug who knows
Could it be someone is PvP flagged, and you’re healing them or buffing them?
I’ve seen PVP flagged opposite faction players a few times in the radiant echoes event boss fights. They were stood in the middle of the fight, and I assumed they were just there for the currency, minding their own business. Nothing happened when I used AoE attacks, but maybe they were hoping the opposite faction might misclick and target them, try to attack them and then put their PVP flag on.
