Words in WOW that mean something else where you come from

skitter/skitters/skittering etc

in Scotland, if you have “the skitters” then you have diarrhea

so when I see a skittering spider I look for a big brown trail behind it

there was also a sci-fi show a few years back where they called the aliens The Skitters
I couldn’t watch it for laughing. once they were praying “dear lord, we did not ask for the skitters to come”
no-one ever does pal

anyway, any other words in the game that have a very different meaning where you’re from

Well there’s a nice health resort here in switzerland called vulpera, if that counts.

remember the Owl Steward in SL, that was named and lowkey part of lore and story - named “Sika”?

Well, in my language it means literally “(s/he) is pissing”… written exactly that way and kind of… hard to un-see this every time.

“Skum” means to be a weird or Suspicious person

Here it just means “foam”

Really!? … I better start making ticket orders so I can take a trip to the resort, get a manicure and then sue the company for infringing on my species name.
Everyone wins!

Not even going to get started. I’ll just leave with “mob”…

Skum means Foam in norwegian.

I can’t think of anything right now, but pretty sure I have found something over the years. Spy means puke, for example, but so used to the english word I don’t really think of it.

Well yeah, that also.

Sweden is weird, having words mean several different things depending on context

Han är en Skumm person.

Väldigt mycket Skumm efter ha hällt upp ölen

Here you go https://vulperaresort.ch/en/

True.
It’s also the second half of “whipped cream” though “skum” isn’t the same as “cream”. Language is funny

and here it’s the eggs of a certain type of fly. Or something you do when you “breathe fire”

Recently removed word “she” is pretty much phonetically identical to 死 (death).

Probably just a coincidence it was removed though.

Probably every language is like that. Just look at https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/run

I’m from Newcastle so skitters is the same thing :joy:

This NPCs first name means something rude-ish in NOR/SWE and I didn’t know until I named my character Runk and all my Nordic friends whispered me laughing!

The Skitting Breach.

hahahahaha

I’ll let you figure this out yourself
