Just wondering to what extent this is, if anyone knows.
For example are they going to revert the change they made to hoods around patch 7.0, where they all shrank.
Or their awful clunky run animation? Or is this purely going to be a texture update?

Nobody knows any details about it right now.
I’d assume it’ll be to the same extend as everyone else though. A updated skeleton and textures. Animations would therefor change slightly too.

Unfortunate that they’ve been so secretive about it. Personally think it would have been wise to get players’ thoughts on it before going live but I guess there’s always PTR.
Hopefully they’ll consider the aforementioned issues
The new Worgen models are likely going to be rigged on the Mists of Pandaria rigging system, which is what all current models are rigged on. It is not likely the developers will change the rigging system halfway through an expansion, and Worgen were the the last player character models that were rigged on what was then the Classic rigging system.
So that means more bones, less “triangular” edges, and also the model will be asymmetrical.
So to actually answer your question: this is not just a texture update. It would be a full ground-up rebuild of the model and animations (including Goblins).

It’s gonna be the full update just like other races. New smother model with more polygons, new higher quality textures, new animations resembling the old ones but with facial animations, different face shapes.
If you look at just the picture you might assume it’s just a texture update but if you look at picture of old and new side by side you’ll notice that it has smother edges. There’s not as much difference as between human models because Worgen had already much higher quality models to begin with. It’s the same for Draenei and Blood Elves, it’s hard to notice a difference between old and new models unless you look closely side by side. Another thing is skeleton, new models have alsmost twice as many bones as the old ones, all the new bones go for the face.
As for the thing about helmets, I doubt they will change them much. And anytime now we can get 8.2.5 announcement that will list it’s features and shortly after it should go for PTR and we will be able to test out and see if the the most handsome race in the game got even more handsome.

If they’re anything like what we saw in the concept art at Blizzcon, they are definitely going to be handsome doggos
I also love the new female worgen concept. It’s radically different from the current version, which is rare because Blizzard usually tries to keep new models somewhat in line with the old ones. I am glad they took this opportunity to correct the mistakes they made with that one.

I gotta admit they looked so good I wanna roll back to Worgen, but the NE racial is just so good >.<
Racials need to be reworked, but that’s something for a different topic I suppose

Well that’s pretty exciting then if it’s a ground-up rework.
I won’t hesitate to throw out a few race changes if they do a good job.
I have always been rather fond of Darkflight and the flat 1% crit for Worgen.

Sprinting in bear form without a pot is rather fun, I must admit. The 1% crit is cool, definitely not the worst, but not the best either
As a tank at least.
It seems exciting to me. I altough am not playing Worgen, I’m however very glad for every Worgen main.
You guys deserve it and hope You gonna like it. I’m sure it will be fantastic.

The only changes that would make a smelly mutt look any better is a few of my arrows in its mangey hide.
Just like blue is the better look of Bloodelves :3
Do you have some background information on this system? I didn’t play WoW at that point, but did kinda follow the model changes etc due to friends mentioning it and I thought it was interesting
Yep, definitely highly impatient to get those new models.
A fresh new models to get rid of undeads in an even more stylish way.
Can’t wait to tear them appart in a HD way
I am basing my info on what is public. The Mists of Pandaria “making of” videos explain how they changed the rigging for the Pandaren to allow for more bones, less triangular edges, and asymmetry. When you observe the bones/polygons of the new character models, it is clear that the rigging system is the same.
Like I said, it’s not likely they’ll use any new system halfway through an expansion.

I sincerely lost all hope these models are ever going to come out after this radio silence and lies.
What radio silence? What lies? It’s been said at last Blizzcon that they’re coming in 8.2.5.
