Worgen RP - A bit helpless

Hello fellow RPers!

I come to you once again, with a request of aid.

I came to WoW after a few months again, this time rolling for Worgen - want to experience RP on the blue side

Alas, I cannot really decide what to play, as a Class.
I tried warrior, but unless I make some nice backstory, something around him, I cannot really enjoy it properly.

Also, I’m keen to try Priest, Warlock or Mage.

For any idea how to do them, I don’t mean personality (but how to fit Warlock theme f.e. into RP), I would be really grateful. Or just link me some other sources

And, my char wanna be good-oriented, just so you know.

Thanks all for creating such a vibrant world of AD!

Number 1 rule is mainly to not really care too much what class you are OOC.

Of course it’s hard to be a druid while you’re a warlock, but for most other classes it’s doable.

Worgen themes (if you play gilnean) are mainly the same as any other human theme and how to fit their class into roleplay.

Priest = you were part of the church in Gilneas.
Warlock = there was probably some warlock coven somewhere in Gilneas.
Mage = Gilneas had them as well as any other place.

You could go the ā€œI was a human of Stormwind/any other human kingdom that got cursedā€ route. Same for kaldorei. But that needs a bit more knowledge.

Over all? Worgen priest/warlock/mage is just the regular normal human race but instead of being human you’re worgen. For priest you might have a few influences of Elune if you want but that’s really it.

Pretty much what Krar said. You can basically RP a worgen as a human, with the caveat of living with this thing that’s been thrust upon you. Do you have a character who openly shows the curse they got during the fall of Gilneas, or one who hides it as the form is still a source of trauma for them? Is it something your character can manage well, or is he subject to bouts of impulsive behaviour and sudden anger?

That then can work on top of dabbling in some darker magics as a warlock or shadow priest, does he do so because it’s all he knew before the curse? Or did he choose a different path to what he previously lived, after he was unable to help defend his home from the undead, worgen, and cataclysm?

There’s a lot of nuanced roleplay that worgen can bring, and I implore you to try it out for yourself. The only thing I’d really advise against when it comes to worgen roleplay is the rather infamous ā€˜pack’ RP. More often than not, pack RP tends to devolve and deteriorate really quickly into ERP. Beyond that, worgen are pretty versatile and can fit a fairly wide range of guilds and scenes!

Thats not rule nr 1, if any at all. It is much better to rp the class you are playing OOC than being a meme worthy not a DK icly

To some extent, like with the DK or DH examples I’d agree, but honestly as long as the mog fits what the character’s going for then I don’t think most’ll complain if a character’s TRP lists them as a mage if they’re not a mage OOC.

Sometimes you just don’t enjoy a class OOC despite the RP it brings, or you just find an appearance that works.

Cult of Goldrinn preacher perhaps?

Perhaps a power hungry former mage - looking to abuse any sort of ā€˜power up’ they can find (hence becoming a worgen for the increased strength, speed ect)

A refined, snotty researcher / scholar type is always a fun thing to play, or a flamboyant, colourful, if slightly eccentric old mage.

I’ve Rp’ed worgen on and off for many years. I personally found on of the most enjoyable concepts was a Gilnean preacher of the light. From the Cathedral. It is -very- rare to see any Gilnean light users, especially -properly- devout ones. That said I am only just returning to WoW, my concept was a coupla’ years back, things may be different. But Rp’ing a char who may contrast to the typical Gilnean cockney with a proper, reserved preacher who harnesses old Gilnean values.

When I used to do it, I had a huge research into old British values, speak when spoken to, elbows off the table. - Soap in mouth for cursing. - Standing until being told to sit. - ECT. Bringing them all IC was a complete joy and made for fun interactive RP.

Another suggestion, if you’re newer is a mage apprentice. Try get someone to IC teach you magic, so to say. So you may learn the lore through RP. and if in time you wanted to have your char go the warlock route, you could look into that.

The sky is the limit, but don’t worry too much about classes. I’m having a jolly old time just playing a cheerful Worgen who sells potions and talks about hats all day.

But, should I see you around and alone. I’ll try pop and say hello. Being new to a faction is scary, let alone WoW. It’d do many good to remember that at times when seeing newer rp’ers.

Hard disagree. Class does not matter as long as you aren’t playing a class OOC that has unique unhideable visuals like DK eyes/DH everything

Not a DK IC mocks bartenders with blue fire eyes, not a knight that can throw fireballs.

First reply to Krar was lame of me, so a proper reply. Sorry Krar.

Krar and Obahar are pretty much on point. The class you pick is much like a class you’d pick for a plain jane Human character. It was either a calling or a profession, and there’s a ton of freedom in how you do that.

The main crux though is the Worgen Curse itself and how they deal with it. Does your character hate it and stays in human form as much as possible? Do they embrace it and spend all their days in worgen form? Are they devout in regards to Goldrinn? Or do they cling to the belief systems they had prior to the curse?

The Curse itself is a whole grab bag of issues, from the incomprehensible rage that all Worgen have to struggle with, to the heightened senses ( imagine if you could hear every conversation in a bar in detail, or smell everyone in said bar. Or worse, smell their emotional state ), to simple things like clawed fingers or how no cobbler in Stormwind seems to want to make shoes for Worgen feet.

The class you pick to play though should be one you find enjoyable to play the game with, since you’re going to be spending a fair chunk of time doing that between RP. And it should hopefully spur you to figure out how to work that class into your RP, if at all. A devout Priest of the Holy Light struggling with his inner beast and the call of Goldrinn perhaps?

Pretty much what everyone here has said.

In regards of the classes:

Priest: Definitely could have been a member of the Church of Light in Gilneas, and absolutely could use some of those. My own character however abandoned the worship of the light and took to Elune after feeling the Light abandoned Gilneas in it’s hour of need. Would be intresting to see someone who still holds to the faith despite everything.

Warlock: Absolutely Warlock covens do exist very much everywhere in human society, or any other dark cults. As Gilneas is inspired by victorian england, I could recomend looking up any dark cults in historical englands just for inspiration and flavour.

Mage: Same as above. The perhaps most famous archmage from Gilneas is Arugal, who summoned the worgen from their slumber. As Gilneas is a very aristocratic society (They’re pretty much the human version of Quel’thalas, but with more gloom), he could be a schoolar of magic with a uptight ego, or even continue Arugal/Ur research into the Worgen curse.

The main issue as many has mentioned is how your character is going to deal with the curse/gift of the worgen and it can hold a great deal of character development.

For my own character, he saw it once as a curse after an incident that caused him to hide his worgen form from the population, but eventually, he started to become more unstable and erratic after being imbalanced for staying hidden for so long. Eventually however, after a frequent long time in order to find balance, he’s started to see it as a gift, but one that should be used lightly least it controls you.

What I love with the worgen is the fact the player can decide pretty much on how one deals with the curse, how they use it and view it, because it’s both their greatest and worst asset at the same time. The worgen form is very much supernatural and grants the bearer things such as superstrength, speed and senses. If the game played to the lore, you are one of the deadliest foes on the battlefield.

On the other hand, I try to balance it out as well that he still has a genuine, justified hatred towards Forsaken and all undead, even if it goes against him being logical.

Good luck and I hope you create a wonderful character.

DH can be customized to appear as a regular blood elf, though.

They can’t. End of the day you are at the very least stuck with the blindfold/eyes on fire

There’s plenty of reason to wear a blindfold, and the fire is not distracting enough to be unjustifiable. A powerful warlock could easily look like that, and worse.

Thank you all for awesome responses.
So I’ve decided for Priest class- some kind of Scholar of dark arts (Shadowmage /Shadoweaver perhaps).
Hope to see you ingame
